Located in the centre of Hereford, virtually next door to the famous Cathedral, this historic 17th century building looks quite small & doesn't look much from the outside, but when you enter, you are met with an olde-worlde ambiance full of character and charm, with oak beams and old wooden floors. It stretches back a long way, and further continues up the old wooden staircase. There is also a huge beer garden which is great for the summer. It has a unique & largly varied menu with many of the dishes served here that I have'nt seen anywhere else. What's more, all are home-cooked - none of this brought-in rubbish from catering companies for them! My family & I often eat there whether it be for a lunch-time snack, evening meal or your traditional Sunday Dinner, and I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal - the cooking here is spectacular! The restaurant is always busy, so I highly recommend that you book in advance for Sunday lunch & weekends. And last but not least - There doesn't seem to be any mobile phone reception here, which in my opinion at least, can't be a bad thing - at least you can enjoy your meal in peace!

I was enjoying a regular Thursday, one of the only days off my partner gets. He was kicked out, with no valid reason other than being a bit tipsy like others within the bar. This particular bouncer has had a problem with my partner ever since he started working there. A vendetta if you will. Last night this Gordon Bennett bouncer pushed my boyfriend out the bar and wouldn't let him in because of invalid reasons. To disclaim, my partner didn't act any other way other than being slightly drunk. After this I went out into the front of the bar and expressed how unjust this was to the situation. Nobody cared, this was funny to the staff. Fairly enough, I was angry and gave the bouncer abuse. However, this was only done as self defence due to the amount of abuse he was giving us. I recalled this employee calling me and my partner "piss head freaks" for drinking in his bar. And then him proceeding to call me a skank and "dumb slut". I don't recommend any self respecting woman or man to give these people any business or money. They are low lives who pray on the vulnerability of others. The amount of unprofessionalism and lack of respect for their customers is shocking. P.S. none of their bar staff know how to make a basic Martini.

The cider is the offers a sweetness from the apple, but not too sweet. For the entree, I had the "Carving Selection" which is an offering of fresh meats and roasts along with various sides. Today (1/05/16) they served roasted pork, veal, and beef along with traditional pudding, sausage, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, cheddar & broccoli, and so much more! All of the food was delicious and so flavorful!! While the food was great, what separates this place is the atmosphere! It's in a quaint old building full of character and charm. I love the way the cosy club enhances the history of the building whilst bringing it up to date. The service was top notch, the waitstaff were attentive yet not overbearing. We were served and seated quickly and offered a supplementary vegan or gluten free menu which I thought was very convenient. There was an excellent variety on the menus and I thought the prices were very worth it as the food and drink was delicious. The music and ambience was lovely. I think the lighting overall was a bit dim for lunchtime but I think it would be perfect for dinner or later in the afternoon. Definitely recommend!
