I was a child as long as I grew up in Pennsylvania the igloo was always had great ice cream and it is a place where you can get together with family and friends. I hope the igloo is around for a long time I remember the original owner. His name was John. Everybody always says how good John's ice cream was. If you drive south on 81, you could possibly miss this small building while driving. We decided to get a mid-afternoon treat several weeks ago on a Saturday and stopped at The Igloo. We ordered a large vanilla and chocolate ice cream shake to go. Price was reasonable at $5.42 + tax and it was tasty. The guy who served us was nice. I had the raspberry ice cream. It tasted like artificial raspberry flavoring. I really liked the texture of the ice cream, very creamy and delicious, but I wasn't overwhelmed with the taste. My girlfriend had vanilla and that was a bit better. read more

The workers are super nice and the peanut butter icecream is really good and so are the heath bar avalanches 10/10 recommend.

I stopped here on a Saturday afternoon. I am a big ice cream fan and when I saw this I made a U turn to stop in. It seemed some bikers were also fans. Igloo was featuring basic flavors: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and PB. I only wanted a cone and I ordered peanut butter and chocolate - a small, and it was less than 3.00 - and they give you a lot. I am so surprised there are only a couple yelp reviews. Service was friendly, fast and efficient. The biker in front of me had a large peanut butter sundae. The ice cream was almost like custard; it was smooth, thick and extremely flavorful. Another reviewer said this is the best soft serve ever - I could agree with that, and now need to think of another excuse to get down to Chambersburg to try this again. read more

Some of my earliest memories are of coming to the Igloo for custard. I'm happy to report that through ownership changes and all the years that the quality remains high and the prices remain low. Not Even if it was Free! Decided to try this place on Father's Day. Actually added an hour to our trip to get here, but decided it would be worth it because it's family owned, been around since 1950, and is supposed to have good ice cream. It was a huge waste of time and a very unsettling experience! We have four young kids. My wife asked the young man (probably high school summer job) if they had "kid's sized" cones. He responded, "Yes." So, to be clear, we've never been here before, drove out of our way to get here, haven't yet looked at the menu board, and we ask the server if they have "kid's size" cones, and he says "Yes." Let's keep that in mind. We had a few questions, and began to order. While we were ordering, he left the window several times, and brought maybe two sample spoons of different flavors. We, then, ordered, four "kid's size" cones in various flavors. When we were about to order for me and my wife, the owner took over, and was very impatient. (By the way, there was no line behind us). He quickly reviewed the order reciting full size single scoop and double scoop cones that we had ordered as "kid's size." How any of them would have come up as double scoop is completely beyond me! When my wife informed him that we had ordered four "kid's size" cones, he was down right indignant. "I don't sell kid's size cones. I sell by the scoop." My wife responded that the young man who we had started with said that they had "kid's size" cones. Now he was reaching heightened levels of agitation - vein-popping agitation. "I told you that I don't have "kid's size" cones. I sell by the scoop." He then reaches out the window, pointing to the menu board, and says "It's on the sign." "Read the sign." "It says by the scoop." "I sell by the scoop" Now, my wife is actually apologizing - repeatedly - and he continues to rant about the sign - ignoring what we had been told by his young helper. This guy's anger was palpable. We, then, get an abrupt - "so, what do you want." Seeing tears welling in my wife's eyes after repeatedly apologizing to this guy (when no apology was necessary), I tell him "Nothing, we want nothing. We'll just leave our review on social media." Suddenly he changes his tune and says, "Well, I was about to give you a discount." What? . . . A discount? . . . How about a little courtesy and human decency, how about that? . . . How about a little customer service? Years ago, they called the guys who worked the counter at ice cream parlors "soda jerks" - apparently nobody explained to this guy that it doesn't mean that you have to be an actual jerk. So, yeah, we wouldn't eat his ice cream, even if it was free! read more

There is none better. We live about a 50 minute drive away and try to visit every couple weeks. On the drive to Igloo we bypass at least 5 other ice cream shops; we visited yesterday and it was very busy and the ice cream delicious. Igloo is the best. I like the chocolate and grape nut ice cream. Igloo has a nice screened seating area and a few nice tables outside. I think that you should give it a try, but please leave some chocolate ice cream for us. read more
