No, this isn't a fancy liquor store with a humongous selection, but they have what you need: liquor. There's a decent beer selection and they're even expanding to offer the more hipster stuff like Lagunitas, Revolution, and Half Acre brews for your drinking pleasure. They have an oddly large selection of sparkling wines but that's cool if you're into it. There's pop, milk, candy, and a small selection of salty foods if you need a snack. All in all, not the fanciest liquor store around, but definitely has what you need and always feels like the neighborhood store. The owner and workers of this place are super friendly, always willing to laugh and joke, and clearly have a good rapport with all of the regulars that come in here. I'm happy to say this is my neighborhood liquor spot.

FoodSmart is clearly catering to the hipsters slowly moving west and south from Wicker Park and Logan Square, respectively. There's definitely a huge selection of food and liquor here for everyone, but they specialize in fresh organic food with a lot of vegetarian and vegan selections. Yay! There's a lot crammed in here, so take your time looking around. My favorite part of the store is their fresh food since they have veggies, fruits, and pre-prepared meals that have very few preservatives. Yasss! Prices are typical for the brands and quality of foods that they carry, which is great on this lonely stretch of Armitage. Liquor section is huge and there's tastings available if you want to try something. They also have a new-ish food counter where you can buy hot food and drinks while you relax in the store. I think FoodSmart has good things going on and I hope they expand and continue to offer awesome stuff in this part of the neighborhood.

Apparently because we both put out phones next to the reader, it wasn't working. Instead of being a kind customer service worker, which mind you the store was completely empty, he gets all pissy and mansplains to us that we can't both be doing that. It's absolutely fine to tell us that, but there is a way of saying it to customers. The amount of disrespect this man showed us was not okay. You could tell the other female customers were getting very uncomfortable with how he was speaking down to us.

The family that runs this store is a fine example of what I was telling my family about the people here. I know it's good business to be nice to the customers, but these fine folks take it up another level. They make you feel like they really are glad to see you. As far as what they have available in their store it's a typical convenience store with a good selection of beer, liquor, pop, chips cigarettes, candy and of course a selection of a few common staples that you might find you need in a pinch but don't feel like going all the way to a grocery store to get. The prices are pretty typical of convenience store pricing. They do have a parking lot so you don't have to worry about finding on street parking. One big advantage of patronizing this store is that a lot of the local police like to take their breaks at this store so it's not uncommon to have 2 or more uniformed officers in the store when you walk in. I don't think of this area as a high crime area, but it's nice to know that the odds of this store ever getting robbed are about nonexistent due to the police presence. You can feel safe going here at any time of night. With the regular appearances of police at this store a person would have to be really stupid to ever try and rob it.
