When I decided to see a pediatric gastroenterologist instead, Debra ridiculed me and said the doctors will "not do anything" for me and tell me there's nothing wrong with her and send me right back to her for nutrition advice. She also told me my daughter's pediatrician wouldn't know anything and would be of no help to me. She said she had done "a lot of reading up" on this condition (keep in mind she had never heard of it 24 hours prior) and that "it's really not a big deal" - (Yes, she really told me that my daughter's severe food allergies were no big deal). When I continued to say I wanted to cancel the appointment, Debra then told me I need to be careful because I am going to create negative food associations for her and I am going to project my own anxiety onto her which could result in eating disorders. Then, she agreed to email me a check, but she completely misspelled my name (odd considering it's in my email and my file) so my bank wouldn't accept it. When I requested a check with the proper spelling of my name, she LOST it. She told me I was a horrible patient, worst she ever had, and she never wanted to see me again. It is illegal for a healthcare provider to withhold any over payment of your balance. Yet, Debra had the unmitigated gall to talk to me as if I was an ingrate for requesting what was rightfully mine. I'm not a greedy person, and I always treat my elders with respect, so I was a bit disgusted by her outburst. She was trying to shame me into letting it go, but all I felt was embarrassed for her. At that point, I let her know that I would file a lawsuit in small claims court if she didn't give me a refund. Sure enough, I got my check a week later.
