They're my choice for a cheap yet…read morecomfortable chain hotel I found this Premier Inn for a medical conference I was attending at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. Just off the A38 from Exeter, it was perfect located just a few miles from the hospital It's right next door to a Beefeater restaurant, where the breakfasts are served. Parking can be tight in the evening due to the restaurant. An alternative for food is to nip to the large Sainsbury supermarket just across the road Check in was quick and efficient and the staff were always there with a cheerful greeting every time I walked past reception My room was large with a comfortable bed. I think they're trying to go upmarket a little with a choice of firm pillows on the bed with softer pillows available in the cupboard. Overnight I've become a huge fan of this chain of budget hotels which I only discovered by accident…read morewhen surfing the internet. Vastly superior to Travelodges though sometimes almost as cheap, or even cheaper when they offer special deals (three nights for the price of two, etc). The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable, with plenty of storage and a superior standard of furniture and fittings. Our room had a telephone, large flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities with lots of teabags, hot chocolate and fresh biscuits each day. In addition to the large bed was a plush two-seater settee. The en-suite had a large power shower and, again, the tiling and fittings were of a high standard for a budget hotel. There's a modern lift to rooms (very good disabled access), beautiful carpets and curtains, and a foyer with local information and a sweets and chocolate machine. Breakfast came free with the room rate and was served across a short walkway in the Jack Rabbit pub. It consisted of a continental-style buffet with an excellent choice of cereals, fruit juices, fresh fruit, yoghurt, breads, toast, preserves and croissants. A machine provided good quality teas or coffees. You can eat as much as you wish and there are helpful staff on hand to assist if need be. A free newspaper (Daily Mail) was also available each day. All in all, a superb value package at only £89 for 3 nights (the special offer this month)! Certainly a chain to watch - there are 200 branches around the country and more planned.

The travel agent booked this for my mother and me I think…read morebecause he had never even heard of Cornwall, and this was probably the first place that got back to him. Then, after booking the Chelsea House, I found it in a tourism book. It was one of two places listed in Falmouth (in that book). I took that as a good sign. The book said that every room had a view of the water. Well, that's not actually true. There is one room that doesn't have a view of the ocean, and that's the Shell Room, namely, my room. But that's ok! Even though we overlooked the back yard (and the neighbor's dumpster), Chelsea House was worthwhile. There were a few weird aspects to the place and a few down sides. Our room was tiny. Super duper tiny. And it was clearly the last one to be remodeled (As in, the other rooms looked much nicer). The tea kettle was rusty (I used it anyway). You order your breakfast the night before. And if you're not down at 8, you're not going to be eating breakfast. I really appreciated that because it meant I was forced to start my day earlier. I definitely got to squeeze more in that way. But, they are a street away from the water and a short block from the beach. They are incredibly close to the bus/train station. So close that when we left, we walked our very heavy luggage to the train station. They are also only a short walk to the center of town, so it's easy to shop and go to dinner, etc. They were very nice. And it was very affordable, considering it was the official start of the season, and most places were booked. I guess with the tiny room with no view (and the weak dollar), it was one time you wouldn't mind paying for what you get!

Plenty of room for two of us, a nice bathroom and plenty of pillows! The hotel is a 1 minute walk from the beach and about 6 minutes from the town centre and Gylly Beach Cafe. Its just residential street parking available but plenty of room.

A lovely, small, lake, which was originally built to provide a water supply for Paignton, lying on…read morethe edge of the Dartmoor National Park. There's a footpath around the edge which makes an attractive walk as the views over the moorland are very fine. There is a toilet in the nearby car park.
