Lovely boutique hotel in old town Portland. For parking, they offer valet or a discount at a parking lot just one block over. Right off the bridge and Burnside, at the crux of old town and Portland's Chinatown. Nearby are Old Town Pizza & Brewery, the Society Hotel, Voodoo Doughnuts, the river and park by the river; down the way is Powell's Books. Yes, downtown can be tricky in any city these days. We had no problems going back and forth for dinner and also walking our dog. The hotel is right next to the iconic Chinatown gateway and lion dogs. The hotel itself is marvelous. Hassle free and lovingly designed and decorated. It has a small coffee and pastry bar, a cocktail bar, and a place to hang upstairs called Tope. We loved the vibe and all of the unique parts of the stay experience, such as coffee cups engraved with "99 problems...coffee ain't one" and the lovely city view if you get lucky. Valet is topnotch. So helpful and courteous. Front desk is exceptionally friendly and also helpful. Recommend to do what we did - an overnighter to check it out. read more

Outside the front door of the hotel is the largest unhoused population in the PDX. In our experience, they weren't hostile, but at times, it was uncomfortable. That said, some upsides to the location is that they are one block from Voodoo Donuts Old Town, and just a little further, Stumptown Coffee - score! Other than the location? The Hoxton, Portland was fantastic in every way. The room is super cozy and relaxing. The lobby is a great working space during the day, and a nice, chill cocktail bar in the late afternoon. I'm sure it gets livelier in the evening, but we weren't there to find out. Front desk team was always friendly and ready to help. And the rooftop bar/resto, "Tope," has great eats and drinks, including a really solid cocktail list. There's also a speakeasy bar in the basement - we wanted to check it out but didn't find the time - note: to enter the speakeasy bar, you have to exit the hotel and enter on a side street. The coffeeshop in the lobby has very limited hours - so while it's not the most reliable, a Stumptown location is just 5 minutes walk. Would I stay at The Hoxton, Portland again? Absolutely - quite simply for the room and lobby space themselves, along with the friendly, helpful service, it's a relaxing vacation just being inside the hotel's walls. read more

3.5 star experience I am rounding up to 4 stars. We had stayed at the Hoxton in Amsterdam and loved the vibe there so were excited to see a hoxton a couple blocks from the venue we planned to see a show at in Portland. The room itself was cozy and clean. They stock the room with high quality tea, coffee, and toiletries. The whole property is very stylish and they upgraded our room, gave us late checkout (2pm), and free valet parking. We also took advantage of the convenience options for beer and snacks on our way back to our room at midnight after the show. The thing that might make us reconsider staying here in the future is that the location isn't great. Most of the surrounding buildings are boarded up and there are a lot of indigent folks milling around. Things are a little livelier a few blocks away but we found the walk a little uncomfortable. Also, the restaurant amenities on the website are more limited in person. We did enjoy tacos at Tope and drinks at the speak easy. Daytime food options are limited to the coffee stand which had a few pastries on offer. read more

Room and hotel was clean and inviting. Staff was nice enough. It was perfect for what we needed. In our two night stay we did have a time when we needed towels and it was a good 2 hours and three phone calls until we received them. Also, our tv never connected to which we were told the "engineer" would be right up to take a look... We never did see the engineer. Great price, great location near downtown, great bars onsite, not-so-great experience. Below is my experience. We booked a hotel block here for our wedding party to stay in a central, MAX-proximate location where we could also have our after-reception gathering to close the night of the wedding out with a nightcap. Months ahead of the wedding, we contact the staff about booking a block for the wedding party and other guests - staff was helpful, very accommodating, easy to work with, and their pricing was fair. To further investigate, a few weeks before we went to check out the spaces that we reserved and eat/drank at Tope, their rooftop bar space. The food was awesome and the drinks were fun; a perfect place for a casual end-of-the-night hangout. To be extremely clear: one of the selling points of this space for our wedding weekend is that the hotel has 3 restaurant/bar spaces. We confirmed with the staff months ahead of time that at least two of those spaces are open into the evening and one of them regularly stays open until 2am. Upon coordinating, we confirmed with the staff of our intent to use this space and they openly communicated that we didn't need a reservation and could gladly use the space, which as long as we didn't mind that it was also open to the public/other hotel guests. We were excited and thought this was perfect for our intended use. After the wedding, our bus pulls up to the hotel at 9:30pm. We are all very excited to have a few more drinks before retiring upstairs, conveniently. The bar was closed without explanation. All the bars. And we tried working with the hotel's front desk staff to remedy the situation, but they didn't have answers or solutions. We weren't familiar with downtown Portland and hoped for recommendations to pivot (while our entire wedding party stood behind us in the hotel lobby) but the front desk staff had no information for us, no apology for the inconvenience, no solution, no concierge help... it was very disappointing and disruptive to our plans. It was a Saturday night in downtown Portland and we were SOL with our full reception party waiting for directions... it wasn't a great time while I frantically am yelping and googling places in their hotel lobby. All in all, positive review of the space, the lobby, the restaurants, and the accommodations (ahead of time) for a hotel space located in downtown Portland. I won't be staying here again because my trust in their communication and help has been rattled, and after ample communication for months ahead to plan and solidify the Hoxton as the perfect destination to host our wedding guests and afterparty, it was clear to me that their inability to remedy unforeseen situations and be helpful to their patrons overshadows their capacity to put customer service first. My review is trying to be honest, and as frustrated as I was from this, in no way did this experience at the Hoxton ruin my wedding night by any means, but it was a very avoidable situation that left a bad taste in my mouth, and a little hospitality and communication could have softened the situation and lifted my spirits. We stayed here when our power went out for a couple days. It was a blessing in disguise that allowed us to discover this Portland gem. We had the best time. The staff through out the entire place was super friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant on the 9th floor. It was fantastic. Our bartender/server was super welcoming. Our food was delicious. An authentic Mexican menu was served. I also had one (or 3) of the best Grayhounds ever. Our room was more than comfortable. The shower was big, the bed was soft and our room was pet friendly. I absolutely loved our stay. So much I almost forgot about our power was out. I just had the most wonderful experience with the Hoxton. More specifically, with Emily at the Hoxton. I had a bit of an emergency situation last night, (to make a long story short), and booked flights and hotel, in the middle of the night (2am Portland time). During the night the emergency was resolved so first thing in the morning, I tried to cancel. I had booked through hotels.com and after getting a robot reply, about 10 times, trying to speak to reservations another 10 times and trying everything possible to speak to a person to try to cancel..... I finally dug deeper to find the phone number to the hotel. And luckily, I got Emily. She said she would reach out to them (Hotels.com) and explain and she thought that she would probably be successful in prevailing on my behalf. Even just the fact that she would try is so deeply touching. After having all my calls cut off by robots who are just there to take your money and make sure you never get it back......... This feels almost miraculous. Thank you Emily!!!!! You have restored my faith in the world. Thank you to the Hoxton for having a culture of hospitality and kindness. I think hotels are in the business of hospitality so..... This is true hospitality on their part. Bravo Hoxton. I love the staff of this hotel. I was here during the ice storm a few weeks ago and everyone that I encountered was super accomodating and friendly. Zephyr gets a special mention. The room was clean, the price was reasonable and they are pet-friendly. My only concern (and the reason for 4 stars) is the location. The hotel is surrounded by homeless encampments and I was harrassed by drug users during my little walk around the area. It is clerly not the hotel's fault, but something to keep in mind when booking there. Just a few blocks away the area gets less...scary. read more

We come to Portland every couple months and usually stay elsewhere. But after a trip to Tope on our last visit we decided to try the Hoxton. We knew the area wasn't the best, but with the rooftop bar, coffee shop in the lobby, lobby bar and speakeasy we thought it would be perfect and convenient for us. Welp, not the case. Of the three days we were there the coffee shop was open 1 day, the speakeasy never opened and the lobby bar was open long enough to have one cocktail the entire time we were there. I will say our room was super clean, the staff was very friendly, and Tope was great. At check in I would have liked to be informed on what amenities were closed for the weekend. read more

Ok REALLY love this hotel, I didn't give it a 5 star because our room was so damn tiny. I didn't hate it because it was just me and my friend who both are tiny and we were only staying for 1 night. And the front desk did say she can give us a more spacious room if needed but we didn't really want to cause any trouble because we literally were just going to drop our stuff off and maybe sleep for a few hrs before we check out anyway. But, super cute, new, remodeled hotel. First sight, I didn't even know it was a hotel but once we walk in there's an instant rush of good vibes. To the right small little coffee shop area and to the left is a dining/bar area. Straight ahead is many comfy lounge chairs/sofas and the front desk. It kind of had a coffee shop feel where people just come and hang out with their lap tops and just do work. Super cute atmosphere. We didn't get to go to the top floor but there's a dining area up there as well with views. The hallways could be a tad spooky, hallways are narrow and dark. The room we got was very small but it had everything you would need in room. The bathroom as well was tiny but looked so clean and new. I absolutely loved the Hoxton! From the moment we checked in we had a great experience. Sarah told us about some of the amenities at the hotel as well as gave us some suggestions on good neighborhoods to visit. We dropped our bags at the desk and Sarah called us when our room was ready. The mid-century modern touches are everywhere in this beautiful hotel and I loved all the light fixtures and details. We got a "snug" room, which is pretty tiny. However, it was just fine for two people for two nights. There are cubbies under the bed for stashing your carryon, a mini fridge with free water and milk, electric kettle with coffee and tea, a safe, hair dryer, books to read, a radio, hotel guide, and a cute foldout map. The bathroom was small too, but the shower was great. The a/c kept us nice and cool at night and provided some white noise to drown out some street noise in the early morning. I was blown away by the amenities and design touches throughout this hotel, especially given the price point. For example: -beer, wine, and snacks available for sale at the desk at grocery store prices -locally made products featured in the rooms also for sale, including soap, mugs, lotion, candles, etc. -free bikes to borrow -on site restaurant, coffee bar, rooftop bar, and secret speakeasy bar -framed artwork in the elevators -free breakfast bag with fruit, granola bar, and orange juice -cool artwork and fun local facts on the room keys -discount for future stays at any of their locations I would definitely stay here again. The location isn't too bad, we just avoided walking around at night. There is a Hoxton in Chicago that I can't wait to check out! We booked because of the coffee bar, which was closed this morning. Moving on to tonight was really looking forward to the other reason we booked (the speakeasy just found out it's also closed. It is a boutique hotel and some of the rooms can be "cozy" which we all know in real-estate is code word for "cramped" but this was not the case with the double bed room we reserved. It was modern without being sterile and Vann, who worked the front desk, gave us all kinds of recommendations from food to sites to coffee. 4.5 stars - I'm going to bump up my original review of The Hoxton due to their level of customer service. We mentioned to the front of the staff that our room was a little more 'snug' than we had anticipated and they moved us to another room of the same type. The next morning, we got a call from the front desk saying that they'd upgrade us to a larger room which was totally unnecessary on their end, but very very greatly appreciated by my s/o and I. Everyone who worked at the hotel was always friendly and professional. Although we swapped rooms multiple times, the shower situation was about the same - no towel hooks and the water would splatter. Also, after spending 4 nights at The Hoxton, I ended up really enjoying the mini breakfast bag - it was like waking up to a small surprise every morning! Very cool place to stay. This is my second Horton visit, first one located in Los Angeles, and I enjoyed my time here. Very weird design to the rooms, and shower water spilled everywhere because of the unique design of the shower, but rooms were cozy and staff are friendly. They have two Restuarant bars inside. One in the main lobby area and one of their roof top. They have a cute little coffee shop to the right when you walk in and a badass little Gatsby bar behind the hotel that opens on Wednesday's that we're gonna check out! We are so happy to have found this gem. We love traveling with our girls and being able to find a nice hotel that allows pups and two at a time is amazing. Super friendly staff and I love the decor, very true to Portland's vibe. The location is great, a few blocks from VooDoo doughnuts, and walking distance to a lot of eateries and coffee shops, my favorite is right around the corner. They have valet parking or a pay to park lot around the corner. I haven't stayed in all the different types of rooms, but we loved ours. It was on the corner, so we traded slightly more noise for more space. The noise honestly did not bother me, but I can sleep through pretty much anything. Super cute hotel downtown Portland. My husband and I stayed in the snug room over Thanksgiving weekend with our dog. The hotel is dog friendly (no extra fee / dog needs to be under 40 lbs) but they cannot be left unattended in the room. The room was very SNUG. Barely any room to move around the bed but the bathroom size was decent and the decor really cute. The hotel provides a small bag with breakfast items (OJ, Apple and Granola bar) outside of the room the AM. There's free wifi, a limited room service but the hotel has 2 great restaurants/bars and a coffee shop downstairs and the front desk staff is very friendly. Valet parking available otherwise there's a paid outdoor parking lot at the corner. read more

We stayed four nights at Hoxton and enjoyed all four nights. Hoxton's rooftop lounge was amazing with nice view of Downtown Portland. Hoxton also has another lounge that's only accessible through a secret door on the NW 5th Avenue side. This secret lounge is also perfect way to end the night with some cocktails or glass of wine. Both lounge's are also open to non guests. Open to the general public. Only drawback, there is no hotel parking for guests. Guests must find on street parking or nearby parking lots or garages. I recommend "Natio and Davis parking garage" at the intersection of NW 1st Avenue and Davis Street. The weekend rates are reasonable than other parking lots in the area. read more

Trendy, cute, mid-century modern hotel in favor of all the hipsters and creators alike! Hit all my aesthetic points (for the most part). Don't do the add-on breakfast bags (not worth it). This hotel 17 weeks old, so don't be surprised if it smells like fresh paint and new furniture. Design: Best part of the experience. My husband and I stayed in the Snug room, which was appropriate for our short weekend getaway. Just a heads up, space-wise IT IS SNUG. But that's also similar to what you'll see in European hotels, so I imagine that's what they're modeling it off of. But the "snug-ness" didn't matter all that much to me because the interior design / theme was BEAUTIFUL, and still functional so that all the space was maximized in clever ways. Back to the interior design...Down to the mid-century modern / vintage accents like a rotary phone and old (but functioning) radio to the sleek, modern, bathroom sinks and mirrors...I wished I could take everything home with me lol. The typography of all their signage, brochures, key cards were also all on point. Call me a text-type / graphic design dork, but they sold me! Amenities: MMM. I loved the natural wood / sea scents they had for the shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. They gave generous portions of these in large refillable bottles. However, other than those 3 toiletries, that's all they really had. FYI, they also don't do room service every day -- only ever other day. ***One thing I do NOT recommend is adding on the breakfast bag to your hotel booking. Frankly it felt like a rip-off. You get one apple, a granola bar, and yogurt in a bag dropped off outside your door every morning. IMO, that sounds more like the free continental breakfast you get at The Marriot. Don't waste your $ on this -- you can get good breakfast at the surrounding restaurants! Service: Staff was excellent! They really went above and beyond to make sure they were always friendly and courteous to guests (I swear, that's so hard to find at hotels these days). Comfort: Ok...but the pillows were undoubtedly the worst. They seriously held no measure when I laid my head on it for 5 minutes. My head quickly sunk down to the mattress, despite me layering all 3 pillows on top of each other. Location: The hotel is in Chinatown and just a short 5-minute walk to VooDoo, Powell, and the rest of downtown. Note that it is in a more sketchy part of downtown, and it's largely the "homeless camp" area. *Fun fact: the hotel building was actually a previous homeless shelter / transitional housing. Just caution when walking around at night as it's poorly lit in the area too and not too populated during off-season nights. Cannot wait to stay in another Hoxton again! This place was wonderful! The staff was amazing. My husband and I went for our anniversary/husbands birthday--and they surprised us with an upgraded room and "love" pillow! The decor was SPECTACULAR. Mid century modern--classic, chic, retro. The bathroom was a little small (especially when I needed space for my makeup) but it still worked great! The space was beautiful. We had no hot water in the shower so we called the front desk, they sent an engineer who worked quickly and got it fixed right away! Then 15 minutes later, a staff member came to our door with two cans of kombucha and a note from the engineer saying that he appreciated how nice and understanding we were! Amazing customer service. We didn't buy any snacks from their shop but they have local goodies available at retail price! Not jacked up like all the other hotels. Boutique hotel with mid century modern design. It was truly sad that it was located at the old town/Chinatown area that was really affected by the riots and homelessness. However, as soon as we stepped in inside the hotel. We were greeted with friendly faces, hand sanitizer placed in all public places, and a tranquil environment. I hope there will be a solution to what went on outside the hotel soon, but once inside, the hotel does everything in their power to make sure the guests are well taken care of. A lot of cute artworks on wear masks, wash your hands, and use hand sanitizer which we were appreciated and gladly complied. read more

Stayed in a snug room at $95 a night. It's in a central location in downtown near Chinatown, voodoo donuts, foodcarts, and pinestreet market. It's also located in an area of town with a high density of homeless services and section 8 housing, so the area immediately surrounding the hotel is a bit gritty. The snug room is a very small bedroom and a bathroom. The decor and ambiance is great and offers a unique and interesting perspective. They give you free water, milk in your mini fridge and a breakfast bag of an apple, orange juice and yogurt/granola when you wake up. (Which I loved). I really liked the shampoo/conditioner/body gel which were a high quality. The bed was very comfortable too. The customer service of the hotel was great and everyone was so nice. The cafe and restaurant in the hotel was spectacular. Rooms were clean too. NEGATIVES: No coat hooks. (Portland is a rainy city and cold, everyone has a coat, but this room had nowhere to hang your coat up.) Bathroom door never shuts. (The bathroom door is a sliding door. However it never fully shuts and always "rebounds" if you close it, to open up more and more. This let's light in when you want to sleep, and disturbs bathroom privacy). Shower sprays everywhere. (Water splashes everywhere in the bathroom. Excess water outside the shower has nowhere to drain so it can just sit their if your floor towel is too saturated). Nowhere to hold shampoo/conditioner in the shower. (There's no rack or ledge to hold these when you take a shower. You have to put them on the window sill which requires you bending down to get them whenever you need them). Hard to eat food. (There's two crowded end tables. One has books and a radio. There's no tables or fold out anything. There's not even a tray to place on your bed. If you want to eat in your room, you're limited to eating in your bed and risking messing it up or eating next to the toilet...) ITS SO LOUD. (We were at a room facing the main Street. The room is poorly soundproofed so you hear all the cars going by, people screaming on the streets, and loud blasting music coming from cars and whatnot. It was just too loud.) Overall it was a good experience. Cool hotel with great customer services and amenities at a decent price in a central location. Some design over function flaws that can be worked out. read more

A newly added hotel to the neighborhood. Nice, bold, black colored building that plays as a nice background to the Chinatown gate. Inside is just as hip as can be. Nice furniture, mid century decor, and I noticed the cool indoor plants throughout the lobby. So, overall we had a good stay here but there were a few things to note so I'll just list out the positives and negatives. Positives: - Location. So close to Voodoo Doughnuts, Afuri ramen, Powell Books, Upper Playground, Ground Control, Stumptown Coffee to name a few. So many other shops and restaurants within walking distance. - Trendy - Great customer service - Convenient coffee shop - Clean - Price. We paid $130ish/nt bc it was during the Thanksgiving break. Otherwise, it's about $95/nt - Can't hear noises from other rooms Negatives: - Parking. No hotel parking garage. We had to search for street parking. Free after 7PM but you have to pay starting 8AM. - LOUD. Our room was facing the main street and it was very loud at night. Between the drunks talking loudly at 1-2AM and the loud car exhausts, it was hard to sleep and kept waking up my baby. - No central air/heating. The room uses a wall heater that did not heat up the room evenly. This was annoying when we got up in morning freezing our toes off. - Shower partition can be a little bit longer. Water would splatter everywhere everytime we were done showering. - Not enough trash can in the room. Only provided with 1 in the bathroom. Please put one in the TV area too. - No tray in the shower to hold my toiletries - Room service lady would knock loudly on our door every morning at 8AM -Flickering lights in the TV area Would I stay here again? Most likely but only if our baby wasn't coming with us.i read more

The Hoxton provided a great venue, beautiful set-up and delicious food and drink. The team ( Ali, Mina and Rose) on site were very helpful and accommodating. Full service bar service provided great drinks. We came in from out of town and coordinated the event by email/ phone with Renee. We provided some flowers and dessert, they did the rest. Boutique hotel, mid-century design, beautiful views, lovely staff, delicious restaurants and bars. Make your trip that much better and stay here. My wife and I stayed here for the night. The flexible check-in/out times were clutch. Every detail was considered and that is more and more rare these days. They walked the thin line between being being hip and being hipster. Went here for a friend of a friend's birthday party and had a great time! She had rented out one of the rooms which included food, seating, DJ, and an huge dance floor. Food was great and the bartenders were fantastic. I pass by there all the time and never noticed this place, now I'm thinking of having an event there, highly recommended! read more

If you are ever staying in Portland, Oregon, please stay at this hotel. My husband Jeramie and I highly recommend it, and this is what they did for us, in addition to upgrading our room for free, and helping us out every minute they see us. It just opened last month and is so quaint, cute, and the staff is really, truly amazing. They found out that we were here to start making a baby and wanted to do everything to make sure our journey started off amazingly. There was a book, a coaster, and a lovely note waiting for us on our desk in our room when we came to the room one day‍‍ The note offered words of encouragement for our journey and their heartfelt happiness for us!! A HUGE shout out to some of the staff by name because they were genuine from the first seconds of meeting them all the way through our stay: Perrin, Ellie, Delfina, short blonde hair girl with necklace on (bad with names) and all of their staff. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for your hospitality, kindness and holiday greetings! The hotel and the people are amazing and we will only stay here from now on.
