The practices are done on carpet and most people know that carpets and gyms / studios do not match - people sweat on it, walk their bare feet on the ground and then onto the carpet, and studies have shown that carpets attract about 200,000 bacteria per square inch, which is over 2,000 times grosser than your toilet... and carpet carries the most bacterias that are resistant to antibiotics. The studio has mats available for $1 rental if you choose to use but unfortunately mats don't do much especially when it's on top of the carpet. Also the mats are not even wiped down after each use. Instead they are folded back and placed nicely on the benches ready for the next use. Nevertheless, the staffs here are great!! I'm a long time practitioner of kundalini yoga and I feel the practice here are just okay but could be more effective... also not all classes here end with a gong savasana and not all kyrias are completed with a root lock / seal. This studio is located right next to Om Yoga Factor and it has one of the highest male to female ratios.

I appreciate all the natural light that came in over something more harsh like overhead lights. I tried out their restorative yoga class and had a great time. Stephen's voice and personality is so calming and genuine! He also helped adjust me during an exercise which I appreciated, as it was my first ever restorative yoga session. During the class, he also shared some interesting facts about yoga as a practice and the cultures from which it originated. Unfortunately, I bruised my forehead a bit because the blanket didn't quite cushion my forehead properly against the block unless I moved my head up and squashed my nose, and we remained in that pose for 10+ mins, but that was my only qualm while in the class. After the class, all mats and blocks were wiped down prior to being returned to their place :). One thing I wish I would have known is that there's a mat rental fee ($4 I believe), which I didn't previously know about and felt a bit out of the ordinary in my experience? However, because it was my first time, they offered one to me for free without me having to ask. Very kind customer service! While the yoga room itself is very spacious, the check-in area is itty bitty and I could see it getting cramped during peak hours, but I kinda wanted to get in and out haha! I'd recommend not hanging around too long before or after class to avoid cramping. I recommended a friend try out Ishta Yoga for herself to see how she liked it too. She informed me she tried out an "All Levels" class with Douglas. She mentioned him being supportive, calm, and patient, though she didn't quite know what was going on regarding the terminology. Overall, I'd love to do more restorative yoga here when I can find the time! Note to self: bring your own blanket and mat!

I discovered this studio through Rainer (best instructor) and the space is positive and welcoming. It is a great place to unwind, center yourself, and come home to your true self. Every class is different with distinct focuses and they predominantly end with either gong savasana or mediation, giving you the opportunity to explore and work on many levels and aspects of yourself. This style of yoga is very different but it's super effective and it's open to all ages, shapes, and sizes, and is highly recommended to anyone who has anxiety, addiction, depression, are prone to overthinking, and/or prone to absorbing others thoughts and emotions as their own, etc. With consistent practice, it'll literally change your life for the better, while bringing in more inner peace and self love.

You'll get an idea of what to expect as you move on to more involved classes. Great tips to remember: Wear comfy loose clothes & maybe socks (you can take them off when you are warm enough) A head covering to keep energy in is great but optional Use the restroom before class begins to stay focused Chant if you want to - if not, just enjoy the vibe! This is a relatively peaceful space as the police station next door has most of the parking spots on the street full, so traffic on this block (in an otherwise busy area) is a bit lesser. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars is that would be great to have more classes - the schedule is still a bit lean.

I stopped by here to take a sample class in search of a good 200 hr yoga teacher training program…read more This is by far the best value that I've found around the area; they say this is because they are not a studio and only focus on teaching prospective instructors. The actual place is very small, but it adds to the sister bond that they emphasize. You can sign up per season, the earlier you do it, the cheaper it is ($2250). When I asked Jen, who is in charge, it seems the summer months are busier and can have up to 25 students per class, but they average around 20 students. The schedule they provide is very accommodating to people with full time jobs, which is why I plan on pursuing this opportunity. They meet Thursdays and Fridays on 6pm-10pm and Saturdays and Sundays 8am-6pm for 6 weeks. Keep in mind there are outside readings and assignments to complete. Because the classes are done per season, it seems like you develop a strong bond with the students you study with. You could tell the students were all familiar with each other and determined to help one another. When I asked the students during my sample class, they said they felt like they get enough attention despite the student to teacher ratio. When I actually took the class though, I wasn't sure. I was a little lost, but definitely because I hadn't been training with these students and they were using terms I didn't know yet. I still feel like the ratio can affect how much you learn/improve, which is why I took a star off. Keep in mind, my review is based on one sample class. I will be reviewing again once I complete the training.

Come for some DIY yoga in a hot damp dark room with loud music and minimal instruction. Mat and towels can be rented. No props available, so good luck having support for certain poses or watching out for injuries. Don't worry, no one will see you fall or sprain yourself, the instructor might even cheer that you're trying and doing so well! Packed like sardines in a small dark room with a few candles lying around, loud music starts to pound during the flows, the instructor mostly stays at one part of the room, telling students to do this pose, then the next pose, and so forth without describing body position and proper form. There is no care for safety and comfort as we were encouraged to take risks and listen to the body rather than doing forms perfectly. There is minimal instruction, and that's if you can hear it over the music blasting from speakers around the room. The instructor demonstrated a few poses and adjusted one or two students throughout the class. You can't even see other students to follow along. The room also started to stink of body odor before class began, testament to the poor circulation for such a small room with over 25 people. Showers, bathrooms, changing rooms, and lockers are available. Clientele are all white, staff are all black, and the studo's mission is for empower black artists and women. Worst yoga experience I've ever had. There's another hot yoga studio nearby with much better mindset, facilities, and style of vinyasa flow. I suggest they differentiate between beginner-friendly classes and more intermediate or advanced classes. Also train instructors to help students and give more direction for a better experience. tl;dr NOT FOR BEGINNERS - come for a small dark packed room heated to 80-90 degrees, no air circulation, loud techno music, instructor directing from pose to pose with no details and let students essentially get it done themselves, dirty facilities. Hey at least you can rent the mat here and not bring your own. Ridiculous.

I did feel like there was a lot of hair. It was on the shower wall and on the floor in the studio and outside of my studio. Be sure to bring everything you need because towels and mats are additional. If you forget something, they definitely have everything there for purchase the unisex bathrooms have a toilet sink and shower each with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, Q-tips and tampons- no hair ties here. There are also plastic bags to put your wet workout clothes in, but you might miss them because it's on the first floor on a side table with stickers and signage. We searched Yelp for a nearby studio with a class that was appealing and we found that this new Midtown East CPY studio had a Core Power Yoga 2 class that morning... we weren't sure we'd make it, and we walked in just a few minutes before the class started, but the ladies at the front desk worked with us to get us registered and into the class and we were so appreciative.
