One of the goals is to also reconnect with yourself. I was not aware of its existence until my friend sent me a link and suggested to check out a class with her. Classes run at $27, but they also have package deals. The theme of the class we took was about Love, including self love. What was fascinating about Frequency was that their classes are held in the most cozy dome. Once you enter the dome for class, it becomes your safe space. We got started with subtle breathing techniques as the facilitator prepared to play a recording that guided us throughout the exercise. The ceiling of the dome was unique as colorful geometric shapes continuously played making me feel hypnotic. The class lasted for an hour and it was a very small group, just 4 including the facilitator. There were mini exercises that had us partner up. I was with my friend and felt comfortable but if you're going alone, expect to open up with a stranger. Some of the words I'd use to describe the class would be: meditation, visualization, deep breathing and affirmations. The lecture was wonderful and I felt very relaxed once it was over with a sense of calmness and serenity. I think $27 for a one hour class might be a tad high but i really enjoyed the experience. But like other regimens such as yoga, the gym and meditation, it is encouraged to visit Frequency regularly to reap the benefits. Definitely recommend!!

Tues night consisted of a guided mediation for noobs (like me), a general quiet space mediation for pros and it ended with a moving lecture by an invited guest speaker. Tonight's lecturer was wonderful and her stories and topic were universal and relatable. My visit to the Shambhala Medication Center was powerful and moving. I want to cultivate and hone this new practice; perhaps make it a weekly thing. I'm also interested in their workshops and possibly even a weekend retreat. If you are new to meditation and looking for a warm, friendly environment to start, Shambhala is definitely it. It's a relaxing mental escape from the buzzing city below and a good starting point for self-exploration. I highly recommend it.

She hasn't been and wanted to attend with a friend. I read about it on their website. It sounded great! I personally am looking for a community of young adults who are friendly, open to newcomers, and share a dedication to meditation. So, I arrived a little bit after 7. There were a few people in the lounge area, drinking tea and chatting with others. Everyone seemed warm, friendly, happy. I took this time to walk around. I found the kitchen and bathroom, both of which were clean. The meditation was in their expansive meditation room. The event had a traditional meditation session. The facilitator was great during this part of the event. His voice was at a smooth low tone that encouraged him to meditate deeper. Unfortunately, not everyone was on the same meditative pace. Someone's phone rang twice during meditation. SMH. That was when things went down hill. After this session, the instructor led us to sit in a circle for a social meditation session. I've never done a social meditation session, and I was looking forward to it. But instantly the instructor's low self esteem surfaced as he stumbled on his words and hesitated with the activities. He asked questions and some individuals voiced their concerns, trials, and tribulations with their daily lives. It honestly seemed like a group therapy session and people only focused on the problems with urban life. SMH. So I zoned out and I tried to meditate. Then next thing I know I hear my name called. The instructor called me to say something. I had no idea what to say. I said something so I could leave the spotlight ASAP. Overall, the attendees seemed nice. But I would not return. I do not like being called on the spot like I was a third grader. I do not like the whole group therapy session going on.

I first became acquainted with the Shinnyo Center back in 2014 when after reading 10% Happier* by Dan Harris (renowned journalist), he would be making an appearance (along with other notable personalities) at the center. Shinnyo is a glorious Eastern/Buddhist temple/center oasis tucked away in the heart of the garment district. Its main focus is everything related to meditation and benefits. After meeting Dan Harris, I was intrigued with the center, what they offered & its principles. There's self guided meditation (sit in the temple on your own to meditate), guided meditation for nominal fee, special meditation workshops such as jazz (done it and cool!) and matcha meditation (on my list whereupon it includes meditation but also incorporates a matcha tea ceremony). The special workshops are fee based. For a great introduction to Shinnyo, check out Groupon for package deal specials---10 or 20 visits promo. It's a great way to incorporate meditation in your life. An added incentive to check it out is for the first week in January, (through January 6th), the center is offering free guided meditation sessions so visit their website for days/times. I can't speak highly enough of the Shinnyo Center. The entire staff is so welcoming and I am confident anyone who visits will walk out feeling positive and relaxed. I'm looking to become more of a regular in 2018. *this amazing autobiography outlines how a fidgety journalist (Dan Harris) experienced an on air panic attack years ago and then discovered the benefits of meditation. Highly recommend.

I was born and raised in a very rural and tranquil area in north western Ireland, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the lush green hills of my home county of Donegal. It is very easy to find peace there. But in October 2016, I married a New Yorker and soon afterwards found myself in Jackson Heights, Queens - one of the busiest, most densely populated and diverse neighborhoods in the world. That change came as quite a shock. I found the long immigration process to be quite frustrating. During the winter months, I was missing Ireland, struggling to adapt to life in such a busy city, and knew that I needed some sort of change in my life. I was feeling a little stressed, was having trouble sleeping, and was generally experiencing decreased motivation and creativity. Getting good quality sleep was a continual problem. I found TM online, and enrolled for a free non-committal introductory talk in March 2017. I instantly decided to take the training, and it has turned out to be an excellent decision. I thoroughly enjoyed the week-long training program. I found the center to be very relaxing, and the quality of teaching on offer was first class. I could not possibly have asked for better training/mentoring. As for the TM itself, I felt immediate benefits, and now, three months later, having practiced TM twice daily ever since, I feel completely rejuvenated. I sleep as soon as I go to bed, and wake feeling refreshed, positive, very confident about the future, and despite the fast-paced nature of life in New York, I feel calm and assured. Perhaps the best thing I can say about TM is that it is effortless. Previously, when I was presented with a problem or a challenge, (just I suspect like many other people), I would think and think in the hopes of finding a solution. TM has taught me that I don't need to think harder to find solutions to life's problems. In fact, I should do the opposite. TM allows me to switch my thoughts off, and this innately triggers a sense of complete stillness, which brings so many benefits to my life. The realization that I can do this, and delve into the boundless possibilities and creative opportunities that come from TM is a complete revelation. I would thoroughly recommend TM training at the Midtown Manhattan Center.
