Luckily, when the main course came, chips and with a chunky steak pie. yummy!! I know this stuff isn't fresh, its all delivered frozen, but boy, it was tasty and cooked perfectly! Gravy oozing out, tasty meat, and peas swimming delightfully in the stuff. I was I had taken a picture, it was postcard perfect. Calorific, stodgy, filling and belt popping, not for some one watching their figure, or not looking to become a miniature satellite orbiting Jupiter. For the price this is what i expect, wonderful taste, affordable, fattening. Good selection of beers and spirits, friendly helpful staff, clean tables, very polite always ask how things are. This is one place I intend to revisit for sure. Love it!! Except I wont have the soggy bread option next time. i would have rated it higher if it wasn't for the poor starter.

They serve food which is typical pub style food which is nice and there are plenty of tables including some outdoor patio tables. The prices are reasonable, the food is good value and the service is usually pretty good too. It is the similar style to the Priory and the Needle and Awl pubs which are all situated within a few miles of each other.

Lovely, traditional English pub. They've got all the important things nailed. Cold beer, hot food -…read moreand at great prices. Really friendly bar/restaurant staff that greeted me like a long-lost friend. There is a great restaurant - full of English charm and the food is just what you expect and need from a proper British boozer. The essentials of a pool table and dart board are also in place! Plenty of parking in the car park and a cheery open fire adds to the charm. There is a function room and private dining room (we had a good nosey around) and there are murals on one wall of the famous faces that used to frequent - Rod Stewart, Noel Edmonds, U2 and various famous faces from an epic time in British music history. It's not a music venue as such now but there are occasional bands, quiz nights and other events on. Worth checking in if you are passing through or are nearby. Woollaston is a really pretty little village for a wander around. Hope you enjoy as much as I did!!

A pub with a fantastic reputation delivers a great night out and doesn't disappoint. The Wollaston…read moreInn used to be known in the 1970s as a mecca for live acts with outstanding bands making the trek from the city out to this little oasis in the country. Acts such as U2, Status Quo, Thin Lizzy and John Peel himself are all said to have played there in their early career. Obviously the pub has changed radically since those heady days of rock and roll. The old hall upstairs which was used as the club can still be hired out for events. With its large windows and stripped floor it has a fantastic charm for an intimate wedding or celebration. However, you will be pleased to hear that there is no evidence of the 70's disco that it used to be. The restaurant downstairs is a revelation to the village. Chris the head chef has brought high quality dining to the area much like his predecessor brought quality rock bands. His menu is interesting without being pretentious with classics such as game, steak and chicken sitting beside a great fish menu. The selection changes regularly so each time there is something new to try. His wine list is also very strong and we have enjoyed many a night sampling a range of grape derived delights. The pub offers private dining as well as the hall and restaurant so it can cater for family groups of up to 10 or 12 people. On the nights we have been there the place has been busy so I recommend booking ahead of time. In conclusion I would highly recommend this place if you are in mind for top notch food in a historic setting.

The prices are really cheap as it is part of the Weatherspoons group which are know for good drinks prices. It has a friendly atmosphere and gets very busy at weekends. They also sell food which is standard pub food such as fish and chips, burgers or lasagne, but it is great value and there are often offers on the meals. It is a nice place to pop in for a drink and a quick meal on a Saturday afternoon or a great place to go out with friends on a Friday or Saturday night as it is within walking distance the other pubs and the nightclub Life. There are plenty of places you can park in nearby streets and there is also a small car park around the back of the pub too.

So for the past two years, every Thursday for their 'Curry Night' a friend and I have been going there, once a week for one of their very good value curry meals. A decent range of mostly tasty curries, with sides of mango chutney, popadoms and naan bread, served with a drink from a good range too. Most of the time the ales are drinkable, despite claims of superior ability with regards to real ales, I doubt they'd win any awards for the range nor the way they keep them - but still drinkable all the same. So why suddenly write now? Last night we were served a meal that potentially was uncooked. It was certainly cold and when pointing this out to the manager, a tirade of abuse about us easting "half" of the meal (he later conceded that we'd had one mouthful after making him fetch the dishes from the kitchen) and that that he only had our word for the fact that it was cold! Although quite what we'd have to gain by lying about something like that I do not know. There was no apology and only an offer of "reheating" our meals was made. Pointing out that no-one had apologised for the problem, he then got personally offensive, saying that I was "too bone idle" to listen to him apologise. We demanded a refund, and left and enjoyed a similarly priced meal, with people that smile at their customers rather than shout at them, just around the corner from this pub. Calling their Customer Service department this morning, they were similarly disinterested in the fact they'd served a meal that was stone cold - so I guess we'll not be going to this place, nor any other Weatherspoons again, in case next time I get food poisoning!
