Growing up this was my "local". I ate there a few years ago and it was pretty decent pub food…read more Against my better judgment when my cousin suggested eating here with the family (because it is close) I agreed and so 5 of us arrived for dinner. First thing you note is that ALL the character of the place has been removed by replacing original pub sign etc has been replaced with generic, plain white lettering on a maroon backdrop plastic looking signs. Second they seem to have changed it from a pub (translation for my US buddies - bar) to a very ordinary restaurant. The food was DREADFUL. Normally I would have rammed it down the waitresses throat but with family around I swallowed it (my anger not the food). I ordered bangers and mash - Surely no-one can make a dry nasty English banger?! Oh these guys can - and the nasty luke warm gravy crap? And the sausages were basically burnt so much that I thought my teeth would crack when I TRIED to eat one. My uncle barely touched his chicken dish it was so bad - my Dad (the human vacuum) ate his fish and chips but it didn't look good. The girls meals were totally not memorable in any good way. Never again.

I'd give the three horseshoes five stars really if it wasn't for the fact the only got two…read morebabyseats and they aren't very good ones, my son can get out of them pretty easily. But apart from that I love this place. The food is yummy. The service is good. It is a cosy restaurant and the outdoor pub garden is lovely on a warm day. The landlady Jane is fantastic and makes you feel very welcome. Children are very welcome in here and my little boy loves it. They don't do a childrens menu but the portions are so big that normally my son would just share with me. They also have a big disabled bathroom with babychanging. I think from all eaty places in Letchworth this is the one you should visit as it is a truely lovely place. Just make sure to book if you need a babyseat.

This is a lovely and traditional style pub. We went here for food whilst camping (cheating i know)…read moreand were not dissapointed. they do a range of food on their menu from stews and salads to fish and chicken complemented with daily specials. They only serve food from 12-2 and 6pm onwards i believe so make sure you are popping in at these times. We did not the first day but the gentleman we spoke to did reccomend another pub close by which served all day. As you walk in you see a lovely looking bar, old wood beams surround the place and lots of tables for pub/food and a seperate area for diners only which i thought was a nice touch. My girlfriend went with one of the specials which was the venison stew and it was very tasty, well cooked, tender and with enough on the sides to complement it. I went for the cajun chicken. It was slightly spicy, lots of fries, nice slaw and salad on the side with a corn on the cob as well. The strength of this place is its portions, the plate i had was nearly the width of the table. The only reason this isnt higher is the service was a little slow and the staff looked slightly uninterested chatting away to themselves whilst we were waiting to order. They did however take our drinks orders pretty quickly. All in all a solid traditional pub, huuuuuge portions and a lovely environment.
