So...I'm an occasionally-seasonal enthusiast who played trumpet through undergrad (graduated in 04'). That's a round about way of saying that I don't play much anymore. I do like to play around the holidays though... I still have my horns and all sorts of music books/sheet music laying around. I'm a trombone player and have been since middle school, so this place is my haven for buying higher end gear and accessories for my trombone. I usually check out new mouthpieces, and bought a new slide for my Conn 112H here. The owner Steve Ferguson also has his own line of mouthpieces that are similar to the old Minicks which are really expensive or hard to find. I personally own a Ferguson LS and a Jeff Reynolds. Both are gold plated for a softer feel. Steve also carries a good amount of Kanstul horns, which have increased significantly in quality since I first heard of them. I know most of the guys that work here, and they're all very knowledgable and easy-going guys. All of them play around town, so they can talk some serious shop with you. You are more than welcome to try the horns they have on display (all great), and they have an awesome selection of gig bags and hard cases. Fantastic shop and services. I had a very old trumpet that sat in a garage for over a decade. They did a terrific, thorough cleaning for a very reasonable price, and also found a way to get the horn back to me (I was about an hour and a half north) so I wouldn't have to make an extra trip. From my music guru husband- Stepping into the horn guys store, I noticed that it was a very comfortable and cooperative environment. I came in looking for a few trombone accessories and ended up trying out a few trombones there for fun. He took the time to give me a few different combinations and was genuinely invested in giving me the best sound with the best quality horn/horn parts. During my time there a few younger kids came in and he took his time to explain to the parents what would work best for the kids and their growth as a musicians. I don't know how I grew up in Southern California without hearing about these guys. I found them on a web search and saw that they have a good selection of mouthpieces in stock. I dropped by and was greeted with a smile and then shown the assortment of mouthpieces before being shown to the practice room, where I spent a good half hour undisturbed while I scrutinized over 9 different mouthpieces. They openly appreciated my business and respected my care in selecting the products, even though I was only making a small purchase. Absolutely phenomenal! I have ordered some hard to find bass trombone mutes from them a couple of times and every time I get exactly what I wanted in a timely fashion at a very fair price. But they go one step further: they stand behind what they sell. I bought a Tom Crown mute from them and then about a month later the corks started to split and actually came off of the mute. I called Horn Guys, told them what happened and they offered to either exchange the mute for a new one, or to send me a new set of corks and the cork cement at no charge. This is probably the best customer service I have ever seen. read more

Steven Ferguson is the rudest music dealer I have ever encountered. I did nothing to incur his wrath except try to negotiate a price and he was offended. He tried to smear me with email copying other professionals in the community, also, and that is tortuous interference with my professional business. He 'banished' me from buying anything from his store, even if I wanted to buy anything without negotiation at full list price. He is vindictive and mean. I told him that the only thing I could do is what Jesus instructed, "Bless those who curse you," so I gave him my blessings and moved on to another dealer. Here are the exact words he typed to me in an email after copying a colleague about his dispute with me: "Go bug off and bother someone else." read more

Came from Northern California to try out some F tubas at this wonderful store!! The minute I walked in and informed them I was planning on trying out F tubas, they had all their inventory out ready to go for me to try out!!! Each and every staff member was attentive to my questions and were able to lead me into the right direction. Their tuba specialist was especially extremely helpful as I don't know too much about the F tuba market. Not only was I allowed to try out their horns but I was able to try out their mouthpiece stock as well with the instruments so I could find the perfect fit! The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. Something I don't see too often in Northern California with some music stores. This place is definitely any semi to professional brass players dream when it comes to stock and equipment. While I have been an avid shopper in some local stores up north, I plan on bringing my business to this store whenever possible! read more
