I'm not ashamed to admit when I am in need of a mental health professional. As such, I believe that these professionals have a difficult job. However, that doesn't mean treating patients poorly is acceptable. EVER. I came to The Hopper Group on a recommendation. After my experience, I feel others should know what they're walking into with this place. First, Dr. Hopper rarely ever comes into the office. It is a huge office and it's basically run by his nursing staff. My initial assessment was with a nurse, which I expected. Wanting to be open and honest so I could be accurately assessed, I answered her questions candidly. We were barely 20 minutes into the consultation when she began making personal comments about my answers to her questions concerning my past. She would say things like, "you really did that???" and "you do know that kind of behavior just makes you worse, right?" I was incensed!
After being shamed for my answers to her questions, I finally said I didn't like the way the consult was going and that I would like to speak with Dr. Hopper. She said he wasn't in the facility and wasn't scheduled to be there. Uh, okay. I had enough by this point and said I'll be taking my personal information (the intake forms) and leaving. She became very condescending and said I'm not allowed to leave with my paperwork because I had "received care" there and they would be keeping all of my personal information. I told her I had not received care, that we only got 20 minutes into a consultation and that I wanted to leave and I didn't want them having my personal info. She forcefully took the forms from me and held them behind the desk, saying she couldn't give them back. I was so upset, I told her I couldn't believe this is how they treat people who come to them for help, that they shame and humiliate their patients.
In the end, she was able to refund my co-pay but kept my personal info. I wanted to complain to the medical board but was still faced with the task of finding a psychiatrist, so I let it go and did nothing. Thanks to the NURSES at Hopper group, my trauma got a nice boost and I left there crying, angry and feeling worthless. read more
