The Book Exchange - The Book Exchange in Port St Lucie A friendly and cozy place to find a newused book!

It is very uninviting from the outside because you can't see inside the windows. I almost skipped going in but after looking at some photos online I was curious and decided to check it out anyway despite my negative first impression. The aisles are filled floor to ceiling with books arranged by categories. After looking around for a few minutes I wanted to ask about prices so I went to the counter where an older lady with bleached blond hair was working. I inquired about how much the books cost but she gave a vague answer that they are different prices. I tried to dig deeper to find out how I would know what they cost. Where they marked or did I just have to bring up the book I was interested in to find out? Before I finished she cut me off with a rude "I don't have time to price all of these books!" I felt like I was asking a fairly simple question but she made it clear that I was irritating her so I left. My encounter here was very strange because typically everyone I meet in Port St. Lucie are delightful. It was one of the reasons I came her to shop on my day off. I was hoping to grab a few books but I know a lot of other friendlier and more welcoming places to spend my money.

While visiting Port St. Lucie I sought recommendations of local bookstores. Someone on Reddit…read moresuggested Book Exchange because it's near the vinyl record store Sounds Good Music and the collectibles toy store Lily's and Johnny Collectibles, making that area worth a 10-minute detour off Interstate 95. This bookstore is pretty typical of smaller stores but has a nice selection of science fiction and fantasy including some old British paperbacks of sword and sorcery and several Chris Bunch novels I wished later that I had bought. A lot of paperbacks showed wear on the spines, as if they'd been read and returned a few times, which is cool. The clerk was friendly. The prices were a little higher than I expected on some used books but not enough to deter me from making a purchase.

Barnes & Noble has become a sad shadow of its former self…read more This B&N in particular is poorly staffed and dirty. Awful Starbucks too, the few black coffees I've purchased are consistently burnt. It's pretty much impossible to find a staff member unless you're checking out, and often times there's long lines you have to wait though because there's one cashier behind the desk. There has been only one time I've seen an employee at the circulation desk. They didn't carry two out of the three books I asked about, and the one she told me was in stock was not on the shelves when I went to look. I approached her again (waiting through another long line of desperate book buyers) asking if she could direct me to the aisle the book I wanted was in, and she told me her system didn't have a book section listed. Can you imagine going to Publix, asking where the cereal is, and the cashier doesn't know? I remember when you shopped here and the employees not only knew where the book you wanted was, they could walk you right to where it was on the shelf and other sections where the author was listed. Also, why are there so many games and toys now? I must've seen five aisles of plastic light up toys and stuffed animals for kids, the cheap stuff you buy for your neighbor's cousin's birthday party. The kid's section was so sad to walk around. Poorly made picture books with AI-slop cartoons. Maybe a small handful of classics like Madeline and Brown Bear, Brown Bear. No chapter books as far as I could see. Instead of brightening our children's minds with imagination and literary challenges, they're dumbing them down with cheap content. I remember spending hours here with my Dad as a kid, paging through books while he sat with a coffee and magazine. I hope, so so much, that it can return to this.

The bookstore opened their first brick & mortar store on Fifth Avenue at 18th Street in New York City which is today the flagship store. Barnes & Noble grew worldwide with its variety of reading material which included general trade books, academic titles, textbooks, and medical books. As the world turns into the digital age, Barnes & Noble began to upgrade their stores with innovation, contemporary aesthetic with books at the center, grew their food and beverage offerings, and comfortable seating for a friendly customer experience. The Palm Beach Gardens location is large, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The book price values are reasonable, and the other amenities are enjoyable. I am still one of those individuals that love to hold a read a hard cover book. But do not get me wrong, I also read books online.
