What a FABULOUS dinner! We stumbled upon this place due to it being right next to the hotel. Our server was incredibly thorough and explaining each dish and had recommendations on great dishes. We decided to split two entrees, an appetizer, and naan. The Chicken 555 was the perfect crispy with a hint of spice. I generally have a pretty low spice tolerance, but this was so incredibly good! It tasted phenomenal with a bowl of rice too! The garlic naan was so incredibly good. I still think about it to this day. They make it fresh and when it was coming towards our table, I could literally smell how good it was about to be... The Sherpa sizzler was a mix of vegetables and Indian & Chinese chow mein noodles. We have heard Indian & Chinese dishes are so good and when we saw that we could get that, we knew we had to try it. The chow mein itself was quite flavorful and vegetables were cooked just right. The only thing I would add would be that the two pieces of chicken could do with a little bit of flavor. I think that if they had mixed everything together, the flavors would infuse beautifully. Our last dish was the Methi Malai Chicken and it was so incredibly creamy. The thickness of the dish was so melt-y in your mouth! With a spoonful of rice with chicken and cream, it just was phenomenal. We ended up taking everything back to our hotel and ate it for leftovers. It still tasted phenomenal the day after! We were honestly shocked by the portions due to most Indian places giving smaller portions. If we're in Dearborn area again, I would absolutely come back and enjoy an intimate dinner here again! I couldn't wait to get home and leave a review of this cute, clean, cozy, restaurant. Convenient parking in the back and walk thru to the restaurant that is right on bustling Michigan Avenue. The holiday lights on the surrounding businesses added to the ambience. We had the samosa (excellent), butter chicken (delicious) and tandoori chicken (out of this world)! The naan is to die for as is the onion kulcha! And the service was excellent. We can't wait to come back. Food was not over-spiced, very fresh, beautifully presented and generous portions. "Indian food" as an umbrella term, does a serious injustice to the cuisine offered by the multitude of regions within the world's second most populated country. Westerners tend to do that a lot (see: Chinese food)... Himalayan Flames seems to have an underlying mission to bring a knowledge of specificity to the Dearborn area. The menu boasts flavors from Indian, Nepali & Tibetan cuisines and does it in a comfortable, but slightly upscale bistro setting. It is perfect for both date night or meeting friends for lunch, and the food... Let's get to it... My very favorite thing here is Rogan Josh... Likely translated as "Fiery Red Oil", it is slow braised lamb in a velvety, fragrant, and slightly spicy sauce served with basmati rice. It fills your stomach as it nourishes the soul (I'm not even exaggerating, try it yourself and see...) Then they have the audacity to offer Dal Himalayan (similar to Dal Makhani in my opinion). It is rich, satisfying, and vegetarian! The best choice for a starter is the Gobi Manchurian, think spicy chicken wings, but the "chicken" is Gobi (cauliflower) and the "spicy" is REALLY spicy, runny nose spicy, but in the way that puts you in a good mood (am I making sense?)... Whatever you choose will be delicious, but you must get yourself some Naan... It is soft, warm, always perfect, and the best way to enjoy the sauces and meats by tearing off a piece and scooping up a perfect bite. read more

Just ate here and the food was excellent. We came from Ann Arbor and had better Indian food here than any Indian/Nepali place in AA- was totally worth the drive. The Adraki Lamb Chops were so good that we all said we would come back just for them, and the tandoori chicken, malai chicken, chow mein, pani puri were all delicious. I think I've found my new favorite place for Indian food in Dearborn! Went here for a date night, and we were both very impressed with the food. Take note: there's a 2-hour gap from 3-5 where the restaurant is closed. Entry is in the back of the building, but didn't have any trouble finding our way in. And, at least at the time of this writing, parking is free! Woohoo! Attention vegetarians: tons of veggie options here! We started by sharing the Avocado Jhalmuri. Truly delicious, and really nice plating to match. The flavors felt very summery to me, which was nice in the middle of Michigan January. For main courses, I had the Shahi Paneer and my boyfriend had the Dal Himalayan - both were excellent. I originally had planned to take some of my paneer home for lunch the next day, but alas, ended up finishing it all off at the restaurant. :) We also ordered a side of garlic naan to have with our dinners, and I really think that is a MUST. They have several flavors of naan to choose from, including pesto, which I would be very interested in trying next time. Service was also very attentive without being overbearing at all. Note: park and enter from the 222 shopping mall entrance. The front door is locked to keep the cold air out. This took over the old Bistro 222. This spot is definitely a hidden gem. I am happy my office is nearby and I had a reason to stay a bit later to be able to eat here. Ordered the Gobi Manchurian, house salad, chicken biryani, classic butter chicken and the Chana Pindi. The gobi manchurian is crunchy and spicy and good, it was quite yummy and I could have easily eaten it all up. The heat from the Manchurian takes a bit to hit you, it's got some fire to it. The salad is simple, dressing is sweet and good. It tastes similar to a honey mustard dressing to me. I would have preferred a mixed greens or more nutrient dense lettuce than iceberg. I didn't want the chicken biryani as I was educated that biryani comes with rice, this one is on the top, chicken is on the bottom. It also comes with a yogurt sauce. The butter chicken is so yummy, sauce is great on its own. The chicken chunks are big and plenty to fill you up. I am getting one to go. The Chana pindi is also good, carrots, added potatoes to mine. I see chunks of jalapeño, has a nice kick to it for sure. This might be the best version of Indian food for me so far. I would say all 3 dishes ordered were stellar. I ordered another order of the Chana pindi and the butter chicken to go so I could enjoy another full meal of it for lunch tomorrow. The service here from the management, owner, waitstaff were attentive and efficient. $63.60 for an app, salad and 4 main entrees. It was all well worth it. read more

This such a fun spot to come and eat, that I didn't even mind the drive I had to make. I came here with a meetup group for dinner on Saturday. Make sure that you realize you enter from the back of the building instead of street side so you don't walk the whole building like I did...that is unless, you want the more steps. Right now, parking is free however, I cam see with the amount of newer buildings and restaurants, this could change in the future. I started with the Avocado Jhalmuri. This was so good and just the right amount to allow you to get started on your meal. For dinner, I had Lamb Vindaloo. I went with the regular amount of spicy, basically what it comes with. One of the people that I was eating with, had wished it was spicier. The meal was spicy with a building of spice. I would order this exactly the same because I like to taste all of the flavors of my meal. For dessert, I had Kheer. It was quite good. However, there is a carrot dessert that is not on the menu that the lady who wanted a spicier Lamb Vindaloo had. This carrot dish was simply amazing. I would completely order this instead of the Kheer. I will definitely be coming back for such a great time eating, and trying Indian/Nepalese food. read more

My family has been waiting for what seemed like eons for this restaurant to open. It sounded unique and interesting and I've been in search of decent Indian food around Dearborn forever! in the last few weeks since it opened, we've had it twice - once in the restaurant and once for takeout. My first impression is that this is Indian fine dining. The atmosphere in the restaurant, the decor, the service, and the prices all suggest a more upscale experience than your standard metro Detroit Indian restaurant. If you eat in the restaurant, you will begin your experience with a cup of complimentary vegetable soup that is quite delicious. Soup is not provided with takeout food, like many Asian restaurants. We ordered the butter chicken, the Sherpa Sizzler, and the Himalayan Flames special naan (stuffed with chicken and other stuff). At first, they gave us plain naan by mistake, so we were able to try both. We actually preferred the plain naan and I would definitely recommend ordering some. The Sherpa Sizzler was pretty disappointing- it was delicious but portion sizes were very small - two skinny chicken drumsticks and a small pile of noodles served on a rock slab. They might have updated this dish since opening though since their site now lists this dish as having chicken breasts. Saving the best for last - the butter chicken here is a clear winner. The sauce is simply divine - so flavorful and complex. I could drink it up like soup but it's particularly delicious to dip the naan in the sauce. Portion sizes again are on the small side compared to other restaurants. An entree might be sufficient for one diner, but you probably won't have leftovers.for example, I don't think there could be more than one chicken breast in an order of butter chicken. The prices are also a bit high - $13 for the butter chicken and extra for the naan. In contrast, one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Farmington Hills has a $10 buffet lunch with unlimited butter chicken, naan and lots of other stuff. BUT the quality and flavors at Himalayan Flawould be hard to beat and the proximity will keep me coming back frequently. read more
