I was pretty excited to visit this little German town outside of Adelaide, and the Haus was one of the restaurants I found on the internet people say to visit. For one, I am not a fan of German food but I did enjoy the sausages. My husband seemed to enjoy the BBQ, they came right off the bones. The service was good and attentive. The portions are pretty big, just like anywhere else in Australia. If you do like German food, this is a solid option.

Genuine hospitality and an excellent variety of dishes to please everyone make for a great dining experience at The Haus. Rather than trying out other local restaurants we found ourselves coming back for more several times. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are each a good option here. Excellent and very comprehensive beverage and wine/beer selection - both draft and bottled. Healthy juice/smoothie options at breakfast. Maybe Mercury retrograde was playing some tricks on the computerized ordering system because some items were either delayed or got lost but the friendly and very helpful staff made sure it all worked out in the end. We loved the fact they allowed us to order a kid's pancake for an adult (ask for golden brown if you do, the kitchen sometimes rushes and it'll come out undercooked). Same thing for the pork ribs we ordered extra crispy. Didn't quite live up to expectations yet the hostess rescued the situation very professionally. On a cold morning we sat right next to the fireplace. What could be a better ambiance? Heated patio for outside dining. Live music on Saturday evening. Great dessert options. Plenty of seating throughout, including for groups. Street parking. Highly recommended. Suggest to make reservations in advance.

Great ambience in this german style restaurant. Serving sizes were more than ample. Beer definitely went down well.Definitely worth while trying the bavarian taster. Would've been a higher rating bit server served up a bit of attitude to start with, which left a bit of a sour taste

A great spot for some lunch whilst perusing through the shops in the main street in Hahndorf. It's great to find a restaurant/cafe in the town that offers more than the standard schnitzel and sausage, this place has variety! Everything that our table had was delicious. The pricing is a bit on the high side, but the portions are GENEROUS and everything tastes amazing. The decor is modern and fun, whilst also staying with the German undertone. The staff were all lovely, but the place gets really busy to make sure you book if you can or you may have to wait for a table.

Oh yes! The food is sooo good! My husband and I shared a breakfast pizza and a trio of sausages. We thought seeing as they specialise in barbarian food we should give it ago. We were blown away by how good our pizza it overshadowed the snags. We couldn't eat all our food and were happy to know we could take it home with us! This place is great for groups and families as there is a large variety of options on the menu that will suit mosts needs.

My Grandma and relatives had just recently visited from Jakarta (that's in Indonesia, for those sheltered beings - just kidding... but not really), and I took them to Hahndorf... On a 40 degree day. You can imagine their pain. I will never forget their faces, their begging, "what have I done to make you torcher me" expressions. So we stopped for refreshments at The Haus. This was the first time I'd ever been too, and I can firmly say it was a pleasant experience. Firstly, the service was excellent. The staff were friendly; there was this one guy in particular who was extra cheery but not overbearing, which is always a major plus. I ordered for a lot of people, which can be a painful process for the waiter/waitress (been there). So kudos for this guy's extra patience! The food was superb, sharp, clean, fresh ingredients. Can't say I was a fan of the milkshakes or iced coffee - too sweet and artificial tasting. But everything else was really nice. The wooden furnishings are classic yet contemporary, and provide a nice feel to the place. There's an patio out the front with heaps of tables, and inside, it's a wide airy space. Very nice.

Although the food is great and all, the service. It takes like an hour. So be prepared for a wait, followed by radical, fierce food.

It was an interesting visit during which we had the feeling that the staff wanted to finish up for the day (it was just after 3pm but admittedly it was a public holiday so the whole township had been busy all day). The hot drinks & cakes were tasty but none stood out as a clear winner. I'd be interested in trying this place out again on a quieter day (or at least in the morning).

There was one thing I found slightly strange about the service, perhaps even slightly uncomfortable, which was the super service a girlfriend and I received from a particular waiter when we ate in here. He was just overly attentive, introducing himself, checking on us every 10 minutes and then when we were leaving he said he was so pleased to meet us. So I guess the service was good, too good. You can sit inside or out, it's probably nicer inside but I'm one of those people who doesn't like the staff watching me eat, so out in the courtyard under the leafy vines housing caterpillars it is! PS. I've heard the German Sausage is ultra satisfying.

Mainly because dodgy friends always want to drag you to wank holes like London Tavern or PJ O'briens. But it happened last night and I am forever changed. This year I think I got it right,no dumped the old, overrated Schutzenfest and went for some real German business. Old guys had string ties, furniture looked like something straight from Octoberfest and bier sticks lined the bar. All the menu goodies looked Germany and pretty reasonably priced and it will keep me away from some pickled cabbage. Beer was of the Bevarian variety and served in ultra large and long glasses. Think the mini yard glass. Walking in we were greeted by the boards of smiling faces having a great time and the message board letting you know how to get your German fix around town. Walk past this and you are created by a quaint reading room with a large range of worldly and aged literature. Don't stop now though, voilà, you have entered the downstairs bar. The TV had Lleyton Hewitt working his magic in the Australian Open and the service wench was ready to serve us our lager dreams. Her opening words were, "I didn't think I was going to see anyone tonight". Don't let that put you off though, upstairs the music was pumping with the sounds of a 'Soul' night. Yep, it's finally caught on in Germany. So pop in and have a look cause Julia woud like you to. Auf Wiedersehen!

We decided on visiting this particular pub to feast on oysters to our hearts' content. Upon arriving, there was no staff to greet us. In fact, we walked around looking for one and hoping for a menu. We made our way to the counter, which is situated in front of the kitchen, high in hopes that a staff member will pass by this direction. One emerged, finally. We enquired about the oysters. She responded with uncertainty about it being on, but will check and get back to us. That never happened. Basically, to keep the story concised, they had no oysters, citing having had a busy weekend that resulted in them running out. They had also had ran out of pulled pork. Clearly annoyed by the lack of communication, one of our friends decided to expressed her grievance with the manager. When he finally came over (it appears they are also understaffed this particular night), his attitude was rather non-chalant. To his credit, he did offer us a round of drinks. Fast approaching 8pm, we decided to dine there anyway, thus taking up on the drinks offer. We made our selection and placed our orders. Drinks arrived in a timely manner. Food did not arrive together, which saw one member with food waiting for the rest to arrive. We tucked in like hungry neanderthals once it arrived. From the $10 fillet to my mixed grill, every dish looked deceptively tasty and good value. In reality, the steaks were burnt, my mixed grill consisted of low quality meat. The chicken was dry, the ribs was bland and lacked flavour. The egg was not appealing and my sausage was below par. The only dish without criticism was the paella, which was complimented. I didn't try it, so will withhold my comments. It is my first time here and I'm sad to say that I will not return in a hurry. The lack of communication between kitchen and staff is evident. The indifference attitude from front of house is problematic. The quality of meals is generally lacking. I would like to come back when these issues have been addressed.
