Within five minutes of my arrival I had struck up a conversation with no less then four people; OK, I was carrying my SLR camera and all of the conversations were camera related but this just wouldn't happen in central London. With roaring log fires and traditional Victorian decor the pub is both charming and welcoming. Great for families ( when I was there a children's party was in full swing in on of the four large rooms) the Castle Pub serves food, although this was slightly overpriced in my opinion, and real ales and is truly a very very nice pub.

My friend who is an expert on this place, was like "they sill have not sorted out this issue" This pub has a young vibe, which you tell when you walk in, and when you get served. On a weekend there can be a younger crowd with decent music, and there is the occasional night held like halloween just gone which was a big success. The food is very nice and of good value. It is right next to South harrow bus and train station, so its very easy to get to. Its nice to pop in for a few drinks to relax or to splash out on the weekend and have a laugh.

I'll also mention she was kind, helpful, and gave me her recommendation as asked and showed me how by ordering it a certain way I would get a special price on drinks since I was having 2. How lovely! So... clean, inexpensive, delicious, and the atmosphere was nice. It was very airy also, larger than I had expected. Cocktails were a grapefruit raspberry lemonade something and a long cosmo. A few years ago the owner took out the pool table, ripped out the standard 1970s faux Victorian decor and generally turned the pub into a bland, generic suburban drinking hole. I know, I sound bitter but tacky decor and pool tables are what local pubs in London should be about. The one bonus of the refurbishment are the heaters outside which you can control yourself rather than freeze/roast to death at the discretion of a sadistic pub landlord.

It has 2 floors (both are quite sticky) and is a little dingy but its what you would expect of a indie gig venue on the outskirts of London. It is the only place around in this area which actually plays live music regularly. For some of the planned nights I would definitely recommend it. Its also a good place for a snake bite.

Management was changed roughly 5 years ago, and was formerly known as the Rat and Parrot. Since the Rat and Parrot days, the reputation has improved drastically. The pub offers a lunch and dinner menu, with regular deals on drinks. Recent deals on drinks include the Cider Festival running from mid-May to the beginning of June, which offer 4 bottles of cider for £10 smashing deal. Dishing up, large hearty meals, The Royal Oak is a splendid place to order food and a nice refreshing drink on a summer's day, or even a winter's day, as the pub has large panal windows to allow a cool breeze in the summer and heating to cosy you in during the winter months. For all the sports fans out there; the pub has 4 widescreen televisions and a large projector, that shows all the major sporting events including rugby and football. Also, there should be no qualms about avid supporters of any team taking residence in The Royal Oak, as there isn't a specific crowd of supporters that dominate the pub, and there has rarely been any supporter related disturbances in the pub since the new management was acquired. The interior is very warm and well-kept. Also, they have heavenly comfortable sofas and armchairs around the place fantastic for chilling out having a drink with friends or family. The only thing that realy lets the pub down is their toilet maintenance they do not have toilet roll holders, and sometimes do not even have toilet rolls in every cubicle. The toilets could do with a spot of redecoration and improvement. Lastly, they have a house dog, a friendly white Labrador that causes no trouble and wonders around the outdoor drinking area.
