I originally was looking for a feng shui specialist for my home and looked at multiple people before hiring Mika. Right from start, she listened well and offered good insight without trying to sell herself. Her rates are very reasonable for the quality work and attention given. Communication was excellent on every level: email, phone, text, both before and after our project. We spent one day working on my residence doing a mix of re-organization, furniture arrangement, decluttering, and feng shui analysis and planning, whatever was appropriate for the circumstance. At the end of the day, I had a full carload of items and furniture to donate, recycle or sell and, shockingly, a brand new home office that was completely unrecognizable from the morning. My former junk storage rooms and closets are now used more practically and mindfully. All my expectations were exceeded. She also provided great, personalized feng shui advice for both the present and future. I'm comfortable recommending mika because she's versatile. She's worked with a lot of high level hoarding cases, but she also fits right in with projects seeking guidance on a less hazardous scope. I think she'd be perfect for real estate sellers or realtors looking for attractive staging using their existing furniture, as an alternative to other furniture renting and realty staging services. I love my apartment. It's a small apartment near the beach, and I feel comfortable in it. But I knew that it was time for a good spring cleaning. So I wanted to declutter my crammed closet and get things more organized. I heard from a neighbor that a friend in El Porto was a decluttering consultant, and we connected from the first moment. She gave me a great package deal, and we worked together for two days. I have to say that my closet is awesome now. I only have clothes in there that I feel good wearing. This makes it SO much easier to get dressed in the morning and to quickly put together nice outfits! I am now considering doing the same with my kitchen. It saves so much time and just makes you feel a lot better! She was great at figuring out what was of value to me. She did this by asking me specific questions and bringing it out. She even finished up with some Feng Shui suggestions (which I implemented), and my apartment actually feels so different even if I initially didn't think much of it. It's pretty incredible. After reading "You are a Badass," a book which encourages one, among other things, to hire people to do the things that are just not getting done (read it if you need a boost!), I got out ye olde laptop and looked up professional home organizers here on Yelp to help me move into my home and get rid of the clutter. I looked at Mika's website first, but dutifully called four home organizers anyway, because that's what I do. They were all professional and very excited to meet me, but there was something about Mika that I was so very drawn to. Mika loves what she does and she is great at organization. She is excited to help, she is such a gentle soul, and she has GREAT suggestions. Her energy level is awe-inspiring. I feel supported and her enthusiasm for making my home comfortable is contagious. She gives homework, and I am inspired to do it. To make a long, exhausting story short (boy does my back hurt!) my home office is finally usable, my garage is on it's way to being organized, I have my next appointment with Mika set up, and I have had two full days in her lovely company. For as long as I can remember, my mom had a cluttered house and also a storage unit for her excess belongings. The storage unit has been expensive, costing us about $4,000/yr. After years and years of trying to convince her to clear out her things, my brothers and I decided to hire a professional organizer to see if they could help declutter some of her items. I wasn't sure that my mom would be open to it, but the day Mika met with her over coffee and explained some concepts of Feng shui and different theories along the lines of how clearing excess and unnecessary items out of your life makes room for new opportunities, my mom called me to inform me that they were starting. She seemed excited and nervous at the same time. The goal had been to move to a smaller storage unit, but what a surprise when they called at the end of the day to say that half of the items were no longer needed, and that they would be working together again the next day. Several days later (after some secrecy/silent treatment on my mom's end) my mom invited us over to her house. She greeted us with a big smile and the awesome news that the storage was completely cleared!! When I walked into her house, it looked different...nicer! I saw some items that she treasured dearly and always kept hidden (in her storage unit) on display. They had not only completely cleared the unit, but even decluttered her house a bit! They had spent the day prior taking care of the 'items to no longer keep'...selling items, returning items, and donating to various charities important to my mom. The professional organizer/declutterer was totally worth the cost! She saved us so much money in the long run. According to my mom, she was patient, gentle, understanding, and treated my mom's belongings as her own, even going as far as to make sure each item that my mom was getting rid of had a home and that my mom could properly mentally cut ties with those items. Mika was GREAT! I never would of done this but she convinced me she could help me NOT only organize with my clothes but help me pick out the most flattering outfits to flatter my petite size. She came over and I tried on every single piece of clothing in front of a full length mirror. She was extremely honest as we quickly put each agreed upon outfit into the keep, mend, donate, or toss piles. She explained what about each piece flattered me, what didn't, and if it was outdated. Her facial expressions were hilarious and showed me what she thought before she even answered. I ended up getting rid 1/3 of my clothing. I took it to Crossroads, and they only took two things because the pieces were a little outdated. Before I took it to Goodwill, I examined the pieces and laughed as they were outdated, but I hadn't realized it before! I didn't feel good in these pieces of clothing, but I had kept them for all this time because they had the "designer brand". Now, my closet is full of only what flatters me, I can see the amazing clothes that were hiding under a pile or in the bags in my garage. My boyfriend didn't know about the organizer, but pointed out that I looked nice that very evening No more shopping for me, except for the short list of basics that I need to get she gave me. And now I'm happy with my closet and I have plenty of outfits to wear! read more

My daughter & I live in a one bedroom apartment, and although I love my place, sometimes it feels like we just have too much stuff. A co-worker recommended The Hapa Way to me, so I thought what the heck and called to make an appointment. I downsized from a house to a small apartment, and knew I had to get rid of quite a few things. For the house, the amount of stuff was perfect, but for the apartment, not. I've been reading about minimalism, and have been interested in the lifestyle for a while. I came across the blog article at The Hapa Way on minimalism, and liked the owner's perspective. Curious to see what it was like to hire someone who declutters, and have them come to your house, I booked an appointment. This consultant was great! She went through literally everything in my house with me, to decipher if I really "loved, needed, or used" my stuff... and I mean all my stuff. Turns out that I was still keeping stuff around that I didn't need. It's always eye-opening to get a second opinion, and that second opinion really forces you to take action. I had two storage units that were frustrating me every month because of the wasted expense. I tried to do it myself but was overwhelmed with the project and avoided it. I knew I needed help if this was ever going to get done. I ended up working with Mika all day, with the objective of combining both storage units into one. I wanted to give up at one point, but she calmly and happily reassured me there was a plan and that it would get done by the end of the day. At this point, I felt like I had things spread out everywhere, and didn't believe that we could. She talked me through each category, each step, was a master at utilizing space, and most importantly talked me through what I actually need/want and don't. I need to preface by writing that I am neat, clean and definitely not a hoarder. I knew Mika had experience with Feng Shui and I was interested in a consultation for my home. When she came over to consult, we got so deep, and I discovered how much I was holding onto that I didn't even know was there. We spent hours going through my things, touching everything and deciding what was necessary and what wasn't. I thought I had very little, and was living unencumbered... boy, was I wrong. I found things I didn't even know were there! The best part wasn't even the cleansing of unnecessary objects, it was the finding the treasures I love so much! I had been working on my dining room table for years... I live at the beach, and the price for hearing the ocean at night is lack of space. Mika quickly identified a work space that I had never considered.. my garage! It's too small for my car, so I just use it to store stuff (OK, I mean junk, but "stuff" seems better). We went through all the things in there, and got rid of so much stuff that I hand't even touched in years... not memory stuff, just things. Pots and pans I thought I would need "someday", a bridesmaid's dress from a wedding that has already ended in divorce, a box of tea cups that I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of... JUNK. We purged two truck full of items. I now have everything I need in easy access, my memories are on display, not in a box... and a bonus work space! Not only do I have a dedicated office, but now my home is my home... and my work is separate. Turns out, my furniture was all where it needed to be, it was just hiding so much clutter that wasn't necessary. Now that it's gone, I feel like I live in a new, significantly larger, house. Like weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Rather than always looking for an excuse to get out, I look forward to coming home to the sanctuary that Mika helped me create. WOW. This woman is amaaaaazing. For me, getting stuff out of my cupboards and, well, every nook and cranny, is my worst nightmare which is probably why I had so much stuff!
