I found this place by a complete fluke. I was hunting for wooden pallets down side streets in…read moreMarrickville (how hipster of me!) and we could SMELL this bakery before we could even see it. We literally followed our noses (just like our beagle) and found it. It was late in the day, we had already had lunch but the smell was just too good so we had to order. There was very little left in the cabinet and we ended up with a Beef Brisket Pie to share. OHHH MYYY GOD! Possibly the best pie I have ever tasted, I cant say eaten because I literally got 2 bites - my husband pretty much devoured the whole thing within minutes. So happy to have stumbled across this little place and will be back for sure. **After reading other reviews of this place and it's sister properties, I feel it's important to note that I have been living in Sydney for less than a year and at the time of writing this, I had not heard of Bourke Street Bakery, nor did I know that other locations existed**

Beautiful. The…read morefirst one was in Surry Hills, but this Marrickville location is just as good, and usually less crowded. The muffins are crispy at the edge, and gloriously fruit-packed in the middle. The varieties of sourdough bread are stunning, and always deeply delicious. Have it as a breakfast treat with some ricotta and jam and you'll smile all day. The croissants are good, too, as are the brioches. Look, if it's breadlike and you can bake it in an oven they do it best here. Their coffee is exceptionally good too. It's warm and welcoming, with tables and colouring materials for kids (it's popular with families). There are outdoor tables for smokers, or for sunny days. Staff are great, even in the face of cranky customers who don't know how to queue properly. Every visitor I've brought here adores it, and asks to go back.

This place has been around before i was born :), has been where it is next to Marrickville station…read morefor the last 35 years and 5 years before that it was at the end of Illawarra road close to Marrickville road :). The Girls behind the counter are auper helpful and definitely make you feel welcome :)!! My friend recommended for me to come here for the Bougatsa, best in Sydney. It's a Custard Pie with Phyllo and ground cinnamon :D. She warmed it up for me and no joke it was like time froze when i was eating it haha.. im a custard connoisseur and it tasted Amazing :)!! Another thing that struck my fancy was a custard croissant they had surprisingly with no almonds sprinkled on top of it haha.. that's the standard these days for some reason. Almonds aren't kind to me so that was obe pastry i haven't had in ages so i scoffed that down to .. so good aswell :D!! They got heaps more of greek pastrys and cookies :), I asked if they do coffee which they inclined but they said only strong Greek coffee in those "Copper Coffee Pot" :). So if you can't handle strong coffee you can always get your flat white, Soy latte etc across or down the road :) Its open till late daily and is a local favourite since the old days :)! Its places like this that need to be open for a further 40 years :D!!

"Ooo Hellenic Bakery!" "I dunno, those blinds make it look…read morekinda dodgy..." Two minutes later we were lured in by the incredible smell of baking bread. We proceeded to spend about 20 minutes ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the enormous selection of delectable-looking cakes, breads, Greek pastries and biscuits, trying to not buy one of everything. The ladies behind the counter were patient with our indecision and unfamiliarity with Greek sweets, but efficient when we finally made our decisions. As tempting as the Mars bar mousse cake and caramel ricotta cake looked, I had to go for the traditional Greek sweets - it is the Hellenic Bakery after all! The galaktoboureko was oh-so-smooth and their lady fingers had the right balance of bitter nuts to syrup. I'll have to return to try the rest.
