So I went back on the weekend and bought one of almost everything to shar with my family. Yes to 5 donuts for $5, all were cake donuts btw which are my preferred style. We tried the beef and mushroom pie ($5.50). It was so hearty and tasty, we ordered the chicken with leek, and it was just as good if not even better. This neighbourhood bakery and coffee shop was the perfect find on a rainy day. If I lived nearby, I would definitely be a regular customer.

We literally followed our noses (just like our beagle) and found it. It was late in the day, we had already had lunch but the smell was just too good so we had to order. There was very little left in the cabinet and we ended up with a Beef Brisket Pie to share. OHHH MYYY GOD! Possibly the best pie I have ever tasted, I cant say eaten because I literally got 2 bites - my husband pretty much devoured the whole thing within minutes. So happy to have stumbled across this little place and will be back for sure. **After reading other reviews of this place and it's sister properties, I feel it's important to note that I have been living in Sydney for less than a year and at the time of writing this, I had not heard of Bourke Street Bakery, nor did I know that other locations existed**

The muffins are crispy at the edge, and gloriously fruit-packed in the middle. The varieties of sourdough bread are stunning, and always deeply delicious. Have it as a breakfast treat with some ricotta and jam and you'll smile all day. The croissants are good, too, as are the brioches. Look, if it's breadlike and you can bake it in an oven they do it best here. Their coffee is exceptionally good too. It's warm and welcoming, with tables and colouring materials for kids (it's popular with families). There are outdoor tables for smokers, or for sunny days. Staff are great, even in the face of cranky customers who don't know how to queue properly. Every visitor I've brought here adores it, and asks to go back.

It is not the cheapest in the area (loaves start from $6.50) but the bread really is high-quality because that's all they focus on. Try one of their scrumptious chocolate croissants. Ideal for discerning dinner party guests or anybody who likes that familiar smell of fresh, crusty bread. This bakery is not open on Mondays and accepts cash only.

You hit a river of warm chocolate. Once you finish that croissant you'll need to have a cigarette ;) This bakery is located in a pretty industrial area and from the outside it doesn't look like much. But boy oh boy is it good. They make everything in house in the morning and as fair as I'm aware there's only one guy making everything. There's fruit tarts, sourdough loaves, croissants and more. Go early though!! The good stuff sells early.

We did start early though, so by the time the bars closed this was a welcome stop. Service was nice and quick, and the prices were reasonable. As tourists, we were obviously already well-versed in the likes of Pie Face, but Janet's Pies caught our eye because it looked a bit more local and independent. We tried the curry lentil pie, which hit the spot as a quick, quasi-healthy, tasty snack for two (which surprised me because it was vegan). As we sat eating and chilling on the comfy couch overlooking King Street, one of the workers came up to us and informed me that she believed something had gone wrong with my credit card transaction (I think it was because I had told my credit card company that I'd be returning to the U.S. that day, and they had already begun to block my international usage of it). She handled it perfectly nicely, explaining she is the one to go over all the receipts at the end of the day and just so happened to pass by the register when she spotted the second printout stating that the card had been declined. As we paid for the pie with another card, I asked the woman if she was Janet herself. She was! Just a little story to show her great customer service in addition to serving yummy pies. I go to both and I love'em both!!); it's an awesome Sat day brunch place with a few mates or actually nice enough to bring your better half for nice cup of coffee. Personally on a good Sunny Day, I wouldn't mind being there with a book while munching on a sausage roll. Yes Sausage rolls...
