History
Established in 1956.
The Redlands, Calif., Free Advertiser was the beginnings of Associated Desert Shoppers' Green Sheet.
The first publication was a one-page sheet called the Redlands Free Advertiser, published in late February, 1956 by two school teachers: P.S. Hagerman and Jerry Hilby.
The Free Advertiser was then purchased by the Charles Holcombe family for $1,000 in March, 1956 and evolved into a nine-zone, 100,000-plus circulation weekly advertising magazine circulated throughout San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
The Holcombes, after the initial purchase, quickly introduced the tabloid size and started growing circulation to 5000 at a time. There were also different colors before standardizing the green look: yellow, green, orange, and pink. After deciding to only use green, that is what allowed for the paper to become identified as "The Green Sheet".
It was in 1988 that the Green Sheet joined the Associated Desert Shoppers family of publications, marking its identity as a weekly shopper.
