It seems wrong that I would celebrate saving 90p when I squander so much cash on useless pursuits like booze and Pokemon (that last part is a lie) but I actually try to catch the Green Bus whenever I can.
The one I catch is the 50A route (from Wythall through Kings Heath and Moseley and into the city centre), it only runs weekdays every 30 minutes from around 7 until 7 but if you can time your journey it's definitely worth trying to catch.
The first time I jumped on, just thinking it was a regular WMT bus, I gave the driver £1.90 and he smiled, knowingly, and gave me back my change "it's only £1, son" he said. I loved that he called me son, made me feel young again... plus it was almost half price! As we whizzed past the bemused masses with their passes waiting for the WMT bus I felt like I'd discovered some kind of cheat, a special way to get into town and avoid having to sit next to the drunk or the kid blasting music through the tinny speaker on his cell phone.
The bus is always super clean, nowhere near as cramped and busy as the regular service (if you catch the 50 you know what a nightmare it can often be).
While it doesn't allow WMT passes and daysavers it does allow OAP passes. Plus, it's only 50p if you are under 16.
I'm a fan! I hope they can get more busses and make it a bit more regular. read more
