The Number 35 follows one of the most interesting bus routes in Birmingham. Although not recommended for those inclined towards travel sickness, it avoids main roads and zig zags through a variety of suburbs, each with its own distinctive cultural flavour. These days catch it behind Selfridges and sit on the left to get an early view of the impressive Digbeth Police Station, with its curious dream-like tower. The bus cleverly exits the city centre through the back streets of old industrial Highgate. Passing the Sir Charles Napier pub there are views of Central Mosque. Muslim-tinged Balsall Heath gives way to the grand detached villas of Moseley's Salisbury Road. Later in the route the multi-cultural bustle of Kings Heath High Street will slow the bus down, but look forward to the descent into Brandwood estate with its strange bunker-like council homes. Stay on the bus long enough and you will see the edge of the city and the green fields of Worcesteshire. What a ride and all for £2 (one way). read more
