The Great Highway in San Carlos. One amazing venue to DJ at - 2023 December
Joseph M.

If you're looking for one, unique and amazing venue, then look no further. I DJ'ed at this venue at the end of 2023 and I was blown away with how amazing the venue looks inside and how much visual stimulus is everywhere in the rooms. The facility can hold quite a bit of people so for large events this is perfect. What really stood out to me is the staff that runs the facility during the event. Junior, a.k.a., Joe, and the rest of the. "J" boys were amazing to say at least. Not only did they interact with me on a regular basis throughout the night to make sure everything was going good, but they interacted with the guest and even danced with them. It's rare to see staff that are interested and excited to be a part of the event, and to do what they can to support everyone. Such positive attitudes and love their job definitely came out throughout the entire night. Hats off to the staff and the venue. I hope to come back soon.

Fabulous venue for my daughter's bat-mitzvah. Roz, the head event coordinator, was fantastic from minute 1! She answered all of our questions, put us at ease, and helped to make our event spectacular. Our guests w floored by the amazing space, had never seen an event space like that, and everyone had a blast. Roz even sewed up my dress after having a wardrobe malfunction...she went above and beyond to support us on our special day! Highly recommend and cant wait to have our next event here!!

My wife and I were passing by and saw a row of beautiful classic cars parked out in front. We stopped to take some pictures. We then noticed the cars outside were just the tip of the iceberg. We saw Gary walking around inside and he was super friendly. He seemed delighted when we asked if we could see the rest of his collection. The collection is AMAZING! This is an absolutely perfect event venue for anyone who likes classic cars. There is also a mini casino/pinball parlor upstairs, and a corner has been set up like a diner.

My ride to my wedding.

I had the pleasure of renting a car from The Great Highway for my wedding day. Rozalyn and Gary set up a tour for me of their amazing classic car garage/event space. I chose a 1955 Chevy Bel Air, and none other than Roz herself picked me up from my hotel and drove me to my wedding. She rolled out the red carpet for me once I arrived at my wedding venue, and very sweetly held my bouquet and straightened out my wedding dress as I got out of the car. I have not had the opportunity to attend an event at their venue (they hold public and private events at The Great Highway), but I can tell you that it is truly a unique, one of a kind event space in the Bay Area!

Ask the Community - The Great Highway

Is this place for parties only? Can I take a date out for lunch at Roz's Diner?

We are an event in you that is only open for private and corporate events, we are not a restaurant that is open every day for business, I’m sorry.

HORSE RACING IS MY "INDIAN CASINO"…read more As you can see the title says it all. The types of gambling I do are horse racing, slot machines, and craps, which I started to play last year in Las Vegas. Of all the gambling I do horse racing is the one I gamble on the most yet also the betting activity I lose the least on a betting day. How is that? Unlike slot machines in horse racing you don't lose that much in short period of time. I'll paraphrase it using the analogy of Sports Science from ESPN. An average slot machine spin is 3 1/2 seconds according to "60 Minutes". The Kentucky Derby on the other hand is considered the "Greatest 2 Minutes in Sports." In a two minute span for one horse race the slot machine you're playing during that same time is about 34 spins. If you're playing the quarter machine and betting only one credit of 25 cent that is only $8.50. That isn't much you say however most people like to play the progressives or multi-line slot machine to bet the maximum. Let's say the maximum credit is 5 credits. On a quarter machine that is $1.25 per spin and times that by 34 spins that is $42.50 for those two minutes. Of course that amount isn't much during those two minutes as most people bet more on one race. Here's the kicker - there is usually 30 minutes after every race. During those 30 minutes there is about 514 spins. Using the same figures above for 514 spins a one credit bet of 25 cents is already $128.50, but if you play the maximum of $1.25 per spin that results in $642.50. Add this amount to the $42.50 for two minutes and get the idea. I started watching horse racing when I was 13 years old. Of course I was too young to gamble but I would handicap horses on TV as if I was gambling. So when I was old enough to gamble the first thing I legally gambled was horse racing at Bay Meadows Racetrack. I had a lot of great memories at Bay Meadows. My first Kentucky Derby bet was at Bay Meadows Racetrack in 1999 when I bet Charismatic on $2 on odds of 33-1 in which he won. Several years later I won over $1,000 on 1 day on back to back weekends. I felt the San Mateo County Fair was more fun when racing was happening at the same time at Bay Meadows Racetrack. During its last year of racing in 2008 I was there on the last Friday night at Bay Meadows in March where it was fully packed yet I also there at the on the last day of racing at Bay Meadows in August of that year. My original rating of this facility was based on that Bay Meadows was closed. I've come to deal with the closure of the racetrack. I've also started to appreciate this pari-mutuel facility. An update review is warranted because I'm the Dukedoms of check-ins here. (I would be hypocritical and contradicting of myself if I keep going here and still have my 2 star rating.) When it first opened right after the closure of Bay Meadows it wasn't the most elegant facility. In fact it looked like a bingo betting area for senior citizens. Throughout the years the facility has improved with better telecast screens. The layout is simple with rows of tables and chairs. That simplicity makes handicappers gamble. In fact the Jockey Club looks like the 1973 movie "The Sting" but the betting activities here are legal. LOL. There is cooked food at the Jockey Club Grill such as chicken tenders with fries and hamburger that is served. Even though I have an appreciation of this facility and prefer it over to most Indian casinos I'll be honest I can't give this place a perfect 5 star rating because it's not Bay Meadows Racetrack.

This place is poorly managed and killing the off track betting operation of Horse Racing action…read more They charge you $10.00 admission with limited seating availability and betting machines that are often broken and scarcely available. They serve Gas station sandwiches and chips that are overpriced and not fresh. They have an assortment of can beers and Sodas. The place is filled with loud talking, smoke smelling and bad hygiene patrons who look to be chasing a broken dream of the ups and downs of gambling on Horse Racing. The place needs to reevaluate their customer service. Patrons rush in to hog seats and sneak outside food in hopes of not paying inflated prices at their Concession stands. The place has no desire to improve an already dying industry. The regular Old time bettors are so fed up that they go to other Satellite facilities or bet online just by not having to endure the pain of playing along side of rude customers hogging the self betting machines with zero regards for others who are waiting to place a bet. Also watch your vouchers closely as the unassuming are awaiting for you to forget a voucher in the machine for their next wager. This place can be a fun experience if they served decent food and opened the bar and kitchen up for the customers enjoying an afternoon outing with friends and loved ones. Sad times.

My SIL couldn't drink it all so she wanted to share it with me. I was able to get a small water cup with ice so I could have some. That's all I needed because it was too sweet for me. Chilled Dasani waters are $5.50 for a small bottle & $6.50 for a large. There's even a Food Mobile Ordering system and pickup area which makes it very convenient. We were able to get to our seats afterwards during the previews which lasted 27 minutes. Leather cushioned reclining seats were really comfortable & reclined far. It even has a heated seat button with a hot setting & warm setting!! These are the best!! It warmed my lower back & was really soothing! I had to turn it off a couple of times as it was getting too warm for me. I brought my sweatshirt hoodie but never had to use it. Usually theaters crank up the AC but they didn't hear even though it was 89° outside. I think the guy next to me fell asleep cos on one of the scenes he sat up & shook himself as he woke up, LOL! The seats are THAT comfy. After the movie we used the restrooms which are plentiful. We were looking for the Parking Ticket validation machine so we asked the ticket attendant down the escalators. He said it was in a grey box by the top of the escalators. First 4 hours are validated so I inserted my ticket in the machine. Instructions aren't very clear, just says something about stamping twice? I inserted my parking ticket & heard a printing noise & left. When we exited the Parking Garage I inserted my ticket & had to pay $5 even though we were under the 4-hours free weekend limit?? Just ask someone how to use that validation ticket machine at the theater before you leave since instructions aren't clear.

Jim and Dave were our dealers and were super nice and fun - they were a pleasure to talk to and interacted with all my guests while teaching them how to play! They even offered to bring extra chips for free for a poker table since I didn't want to pay for one, but we didn't end up using it. The 'casino' was open from 4-7pm and I thought 3 hours was a perfect amount of time. They even included raffle tickets that could be traded in at the end of the night. I raffled off various prizes - a framed photo of myself, 2 bottles of wine, 3 stuffed animals, and 1 lucky guest got to throw a pie tin full of whipped cream in my face! Overall, the roulette/blackjack tables were amazing and fit perfectly with my casino-themed birthday party! I would always recommend private label to anyone looking to have a fantastic party.

The gardens are closed for the event. My favorite part is the mansion. I loved the decor and all the tiny details the included, like a rotting casserole dish with tiny mushrooms growing out of the mold. My second favorite part is the train tracks in the woods area. It was fun to look at all the tiny, creepy house models they put up. LOTS of details like all the differently-carved pumpkins and scarecrow faces. There was a small hay maze, musicians, and spots to just hang out and enjoy the vibe. There are food trucks, and you can also buy alcoholic drinks, which is great! I got the horchata latte and a spiced pear sangria; neither is fantastic, but it's nice have drinks while you're walking around. The ticket price of $55 for the 6pm entrance was fair, imo, for the production value you get; there's a lot of work put in to setting everything up. A TIP: try to book an early entrance, so you can maximize the time you get; plus it's less crowded when you go earlier, and you can enjoy the grounds when there's still some daylight. The lines get long if you show up later :( I'm not sure why but there was only one ticketing person checking people in, so the move was slow. I did have to change my time and date. This part was kind of terrible; you can't do it online and you have to call in. It's hard to reach live help because they're slammed, so you leave a message or email them. They DO get back to you, but it can be slow. I was lucky that on a re-try call in, I got through to someone. Oh yes, shout out to JACOB :) Once you connect with someone, they're very helpful and nice. But it IS annoying that you can't make the changes yourself and it's hard reaching someone. If you try to book tickets and it's all sold out, don't despair :) People frequently cancel and new openings pop up; just keep refreshing every hour and you should be able to catch tickets even when it's sold out. The night before I changed my time, all the dates and times were sold out. The next day, I guess the staff got through all the voicemail and emailed requests for changes/cancellations, and when I refreshed the page, HALF the time slots had availability! Another tip: dress in layers! It gets cold at night
