And another good thing (good if I've got the kids with me anyway!) is that they sell off their broken cakes and biscuits in little bags for very little money - these go down brilliantly with the kids. Their Campagne bread is amazing, as is their walnut bread, and even their ordinary white sandwich and wholemeal. Then there are the cakes........ I managed to buy, and eat on the same day, 4 apricot and almond tarts. They were absolutely delicious. I called in today to buy some Sour Dough bread but they had sold out. Bought some other bread and more cakes. My husband said that the Cherry Danish was the best he had ever tasted. I live in Lymington (about 5 miles away) but I will be heading to New Milton on a regular basis to pick up more delicious, and wonderful bread. So I was in the UK to train IBM Hursley on our SAN products. Every morning I was there I went to…read morethis pastry shop to buy "Pasties" and "Pastries" for these IBM folks. Part of this bribery was to ensure that IBM staff members would attend my training. This place was so good that I walked from Winchester Hotel on the top of the hill to get to this place which is about 1.5 Kilometers. So did IBM attend? Yes. In fact, I felt like they didn't even care about the bloody training but they were there to eat my pasties and pastries. A wee bit of knowledge I picked up was two fold; One: pastries and pasties are two different subspecies and Two: the origin of Pasties. Pastries are what common folk in the US of A are used to --- donuts and danish type carbohydrates. Pasties on the other hand, are calzone like in nature and contain meat! OMG! Love at first sight. What a shocker to find meat inside these beautiful semicircles. After indulging in two of these pasties, I proceeded to inquire about them. Now, according to an IBMer, I was informed that pasties actually used to be a lunch item back in the hay day of the UK.
