Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE household/home goods stores and kitchen wares, particularly. I'm not an adventurous cook but I LOVE cooking shows and I aspire to be better, always better. For me, home decorating and organizing is fun, and cooking and baking are fun. So it goes without saying that I ADORE stores like this, that has all the tools - and then some - for cooks and bakers. I was here before Christmastime and, wow, they had SO many awesome gift ideas for people who cook or who like gourmet foods, or special gadgets, or smaller home decor items. I was overwhelmed, to be honest, wandering about like a kid in a huge candy store. So many things that I didn't even know what they were, very niche ingredients and kitchen tools. gorgeous linens, imported foods and specialty ingredients. You'd be hard-pressed to NOT find any kitchen item you are in the market for here. I liked the lay-out of this place, too. Despite it being cavernous inside (it IS a warehouse, after all!), it's laid out in a welcoming way, with various delineated areas, wide-ish aisles, and helpful staff around to ask questions if needed. I also liked that there is a large parking lot here, too (shared with the adjacent No Frills). Bonus! My one caveat: unlike the other folks who've written reviews of this place, I found the prices of items here to be on the high side. Granted, they are were very niche and/or high-end and /or imported and all were of high high quality (big names, well-reputed brands). But pricey. Granted, I visited here at prime shopping season; perhaps they have sales at other times of the year. That said, even with the high prices, I still purchased some gifts that I've not seen elsewhere, and for specialty, unique items, I think it's worth it. Even if you aren't a cook or baker or "foodie", this place is still worth a visit, just to wander and be amazed at what's out there. This is an amazing place. This was my first time going to the gourmet warehouse. I thought this place was only somewhere to get spices and food items, but I was so surprised when I walked in and I saw anything and everything that had to do with kitchens and cooking here. I thought I had died and gone to heaven lol. I bought an epicurean cutting board. Add well. The pictures will show it much better than I can but from now on when I need something kitchen related, I know where I'm going. I also noticed that some of the items were as good quality, if not better than some of the major stores and the price prices were sometimes even less expensive. You can't beat that. I found out they also gave cooking classes there as well. Staff were friendly and helpful. The store was well organized and clean. There is free street parking in front. read more

Came here for a cooking class and unfortunately, the power went out just a few minutes in! Sylvia and the rest of the staff handled it so graciously though, giving everyone food to take home. We had drinks while we waited (delicious mango Italian soda for me and my friend; wine for others). We ate a delicious sample of mango chicken salad because that didn't require cooking, and then the next day, our fees were promptly refunded in full. So all in all, a lovely place to be when the power is on! Pro tip: if you've come with someone else, get there early so you can sit together! read more

Warehouse shelves are organized in themes so that it's easy to find ingredients, tools & gadgets in making certain dishes nearby. We shopped at the Gourmet Warehouse on Hastings, Vancouver last week in mid January 2025. The shop has a lot of merchandise indeei. Many specialized items together with prices to match. Among the many things we bought, the chocolate from Cachet, hazelnut milk chocolate from Belgium was a disappointment as it shows the bar of chocolate were full of hazelnut when in fact we can hardly find many. I have included photos to illustrate my point. Normally when I got similar hazelnut chocolate from regular supermarkets, London Drugs etc, I don't expect much. But to be listed in a specialist shop, one would expect a higher standard. This is not the case and specially at a higher price ! Absolutely disappointed. read more

They usually have what I'm looking for, and lots of what I didn't know I needed! The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - and that was at Christmastime when they could have been overworked and cranky, so kudos to them. Some spice/seasoning and sauce products seem overpriced, perhaps because they don't bring in/sell the volume that would allow a lower price. They are readily available elsewhere, so I sometimes pay the price for convenience. read more

Just before Mother's Day, I went to The Gourmet Warehouse to pick up some squid ink pasta for the dinner I was going to make. I thought they had excellent social distancing measures in place (markers on the ground--which people were abiding by--sanitizing carts, and having an employee at the door managing the number of customers entering the store at all times). However, if you're still uncomfortable with in-person shopping, you can order online and opt for curbside pickup. Since I only had one item on my list, I meant to be in and out of the store quickly...but it was my first time visiting and there was such a great selection of both local and specialty products! I couldn't resist browsing. I felt like a kid in a candy store! I thought the prices were affordable, but I can only really vouch for the package of pasta that I bought. It was $5 for 500 g, which made 3 healthy-sized portions of pasta for my Mother's Day meal, and there's still some leftover. I got my mom and I the Pacific Plate: West Coast Seafood Mastery class for Christmas and it was a lovely experience for both of us! It wasn't a hands on cooking class but more of a demonstration. We had the freshest seafood from Skipper Otto and the experience was amazing!! We had crab salad and 2 full meals each of fresh seafood and they were very generous with their wine pours as well! Probably the best place for supplies and ingredients if you are into cooking, or especially baking. The bakeware selection is extensive. Prices can be hit or miss. Some things I've found cheaper here, others are more expensive. However it is the only place I've found that carries rose harissa, which they brought on due to customer demand. I have also not found powdered vinegar anywhere but here. They generally have a helpful staff although the past time I was here on a Saturday, they were not as attentive as usual. There is an online web store that you can use to order curbside pickup. Parking is free and behind the building though you will need to walk around to the entrance. read more

I tried to purchase online some ScanPan cookware. My order originally went through, then the next day I received an email saying it was cancelled, with no explanation. I responded asking as to why. The response I received from their online customer service representative was that there was conflicting addresses and a question over the IP Address. I offered to call and process over the phone, and explained the reasoning. I am a Canadian who works at a private estate in Canada, but my employer is from the US and so my work credit card is from the US. I am also currently in Malta for business, but am still trying to conduct my work for the upcoming busy 2021 season while overseas. My credit card company is set up so that I can process my work purchases to be sent to my Canadian worksite. The response I received back was that they cannot process my order and suggested I go try and order through The Bay (The Hudson's Bay Co., I am assuming). I thought this was disappointing. While I understand companies needing to proceed with caution over online purchases, the fact that I offered to call and discuss and that it was not an issue with my credit card is frustrating and discouraging. The Gourmet Warehouse made it clear they are not willing to find a solution nor further communicate with me. My employer prefers that we do all our purchases solely through Canadian companies and to fully support shopping BC local. I guess we will need to shop elsewhere. read more

If you are looking for something that is hard to find, chances are good you'll find it here OR they might be able to order it for you. I had high hopes because they have so many items but the experience here leaves too much to be desired. With the street not having much parking available in front I went into the lot beside but walking into gourmet warehouse doors there's signs plastered saying you can be towed, so parking is a nightmare here! Then, while trying to find weck jars and looking for metal scoops I have the security guard tailing me up and down every side I nearly asked him if he was going to follow me all afternoon if he could hold the shopping basket. They have so much selection but parking hassles and aggressive security (I spent over $100 leave me a lone!!!) I will never return. I'll happily pay higher prices elsewhere in the future. read more

Have been a customer here for a few years. Have introduced many friends to the store as well...have to say the last few times I've been I have noticed a huge decline in the customer service. last weekend I went to buy a few things...the young girl in the Le Creuset dept was just great, but when I tried to get help in the floor the girl that helped me was terrible. As a matter of fact she went to look for something for me, after rolling her eyes, and never returned. I saw her after standing at customer service and laughing with the other staff. I have been coming to Gourmet Warehouse since it was actually a warehouse in the middle of a sketchy area. Not a cheap place but if you feel like a splurge to treat yourself then this is the place. I also come out with a bag or two of their caramel balls that take a chocolate chip cookie to the next level. I needed to buy a chef's knife, as it was a requirement for a cooking class I had signed up for, and I didn't own any decent knives (just random, assorted knives from cheap sets given to me, that have dulled over the years), so it was time to finally purchase a proper knife. The reason why I didn't own any proper knives was because I'm not much of a cook (hence the cooking classes), and because I didn't know anything about knives, I was afraid to invest in a knife and it turn out to be of poor quality or the wrong type of knife. Good knives are fairly expensive (I know that some people consider $150 nothing, but I'm poor, and that's a lot of money to me), and while I have no issue with spending money on quality, I was confused and intimidated by all the options and price ranges of knives. Is a $30 knife from London Drugs adequate, or will it break within six months? Is it necessary to spend $100 on a knife? What type? What size? What brand? But it was finally time to purchase a knife, despite still being afraid of wasting my money (whether $20 or $100), on a poor choice. While trying to think of where to go, I remembered the Gourmet Warehouse. I had been there once before, years ago, when I went in with a friend who had to purchase something. I couldn't remember the name, but remembered that it was on Hastings Street, and after googling "Cooking store on Hastings Street", the Gourmet Warehouse was the first hit. A friend from out of town was visiting, and because he's a cook and loves looking in cooking stores, shopping for a knife was on the top of our agenda for the weekend. He absolutely loved the Gourmet Warehouse, and was thrilled to discover that he can order items online and have them shipped to his home in Alberta. Anyway, I was incredibly nervous about spending a lot of money on a knife, afraid it would be a poor choice. So for at least twenty minutes, I hemmed and hawed over which knife to purchase. An employee who was helping me out was INCREDIBLY patient and answered all my questions (I was driving her and my friend nuts with my indecision). Her customer service was excellent. Knowing that I was budget conscious, the woman showed me an 8 inch Fibrox Pro Chef's Knife by Victorinox, on sale for $42.99, which was the perfect balance between price and quality for me. I've only had the knife for a couple of weeks, but so far so good! I'll definitely go back to the Gourmet Warehouse for my future cooking needs. read more

So I'm in love. This place is a new & old cooks heaven. Until recently I'd never really had the opportunity to visit as it's a bit of a distance from where I live however when the company I work for wanted some gift baskets I suggested one from here. They were such a hit that I ended up having to go back two more times for more. When finished my work missions I took a little times for myself to peruse and boy, was I happy I did. They have almost everything one might need in their cooking & baking endeavours. There were a few items I didn't find there but the place is well worth the drive. An important side note, there is parking in the back but no access to the store from there so It is a bit of a walk due to fencing at nearby businesses. Beware, the Gourmet Warehouse has a terrible return policy! I will not be shopping at this store again. I purchased an "Escali Arti Bamboo Scale" which has a very flaky tare function. I had to press the button multiple times to get the scale to measure 0. When I brought the scale to the return desk, the store manager was aggressive and condescending. He stated that this scale is a top quality scale and that he uses one at home. Yet he also said that the tare function is a "growing pain" of using it. They took the scale outside of the packaging and were very determined to demonstrate that I was wrong in asking to return it in exchange for store credit. The tare function was still behaving erratically, and they refused to take it back. I am extremely disappointed. Gourmet warehouse has lost my business. read more

I had a poor experience with a return due to a store policy "no return on food items." This was 2 unopened bottles of olive oil that I'd purchased the previous day! Seriously? I found the same product, citrus-infused olive oil at Whole Foods for 50% less. Whole Foods! The clerk said, "well even if its unopened we don't know what conditions it was stored under." How about in its unopened bottle in a bag in my car? Overnight?? Nope, still refused. I complained to a manager (who concerned that other shopper were listening) quickly offered a gift card. My wife and I bought a cheese slicer today. We talked to a store rep, who was not very helpful, but we needed one and went for a simple one piece stainless steel model. We went home and tried it out. It did not work well at all. We went back to the store to exchange it, but were refused because it had been used. We had washed it and had the original packaging. We wished to exchange it for a more expensive, but more complicated slicer. they would have got over twice as much money out of our wallets. This place is basically Toys R Us for the gastronomically inclined. A huge selection of knives, pots, pans, gadgets and food items. Everything to stock your kitchen. They have great feature sales too - recently I purchased a bottle of a very nice white balsamic vinegar for a very good price. It is best to think of the Gourmet Warehouse not as a place where you pop in to find a kitchen implement or sauce,.. but rather somewhere you will spend an hour snooping. That is not to say that it not well organized,.. it is. Basically it is so full of interesting and useful things that I dare you to enter and not leave with some sort of a baking or cooking project on your to-do list. The inventory is extensive, the staff is more helpful than most kitchen stores (and I find kitchen stores as a whole to be really good in terms of service in Vancouver). It is "gourmet" so I would say the prices are a little inflated but I think that really depends, I found some less gourmet products (eg. Mexican hotsauce), cheaper than a US Costco! I don't think that anything is out of line, only that the quality of some products demands a higher price everywhere. It is an experiential event to shop here, a positive experience. read more

An APPALLING experience! I bought 4 porcelain bowls on May 10, 2019 from the Gourmet Warehouse. After used one of them for soup and discovered that the bowl was too hot to touch and hold. So on May 19, 2019 I took the bowls back for a refund. A clerk called Alan and a manager called Rick refused to take back. I pointed out that there is no sign to say that this is not suitable for hot food and it's important for the company to stand behind what they sell. This is the verbatim answer by Alan and Rick: "You should have done your research online before you buy or you should have asked the store staff for details before you buy it." "You chose to buy it so that has nothing to do with us." "It's the company policy not to take anything back once used. WE DON'T OFFER CUSTOMER SATISFACTION GUARANTEED." "We are not going to take it back because we can't resell it so it will be a LOSS TO US" "It's your prerogative (to not use them) or you can regift it to someone else." During the conversation Rick actually repeated 4 times that it was my prerogative! to do whatever with the bowls. When I asked for the balance on the gift card in cash I was declined due to company policy. It was a very disappointing encounter with both Alan and Rick who were ARROGANT and CONDESCENDING. On the other hand, if such is the attitude of the store to not 'guarantee customer satisfaction' then may I suggest that the store put up a prominent sign to that effect. As well, the store must put up a banner advising customer to do their own research before shopping at their store! I thought I had discovered a gem of a kitchen store in Vancouver but in fact my experience there tells me I am like dealing with a street hawker. It costs me only $29.96 but it costs the store all my future shopping and their reputation. read more

Coming here always makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. Because I'm a baker by profession, I come here a lot for certain ingredients and tools. They always have such a great variety in the merchandise. The quality of products always meet expectations and are more affordable that the bigger restaurant equipment companies. While you would pay more for a large number of ingredients here, the quality is also a bit better than what you would find at the grocery store. The staff is always welcoming and ready to answer questions, and they're always so friendly at the cash register. Very disappointed with the current customer service - or more specifically the lack thereof - at Kitchen Warehouse. My wife had a pair of rubber gloves - still unopened in their original box. Cost $5 max but she didn't know because the receipt had disappeared. All she wanted to do is exchange it for a larger size. Instead of a simple cashless transaction, she got some lame excuse about "inventory" and refused. Meanwhile customer bags are being searched and seized. The greeter has a huge "Security" on his shirt. It's just become a hostile environment where paying customers are treated like the enemy. Sad. We won't be back after years of shopping there. read more
