Yes, the woman in the donation center wasn't overly friendly and she said just "no" when I asked if I could help clear ice from the entrance the other day. If you don't take things personally - it works a lot better. Imagine going through other people's old and sometimes dirty, broken and smelly things. Let's hope they pay their help something reasonable as it's not the kind of job most people would want, right? FIVE STARS FOR MARISSA! ZERO STARS for the older woman who usually works donation receiving area. I was going to write a lengthy review about how much I dislike this place...until yesterday. For the past month I've been driving my donations an extra 20 minutes (round trip) to the West Yarmouth Salvation Army instead so I could avoid the awful woman in donation receiving everyone else has reviewed. Unfortunately, yesterday, I was informed Salvation Army didn't take throw pillows (or anything stuffed of any kind), and I knew Goodwill did so I was forced to drive over there and donate the pillows. The older curmudgeon woman was typically so rude to me that I would nearly panic before going in wondering how mean she was going to be to me (for zero reason) when I'm trying to drop off VERY nice things to this location. I always asked "Hi how are you?" "Have a nice day" etc. She only ever addressed me (after ignoring any of my attempted pleasantries) by nearly yelling at me. I still always remained kind because I won't let people like that change who I am. Thankfully, MARISSA was working the donations yesterday and she was a breath of fresh air. She is a young woman with dark hair and blonde highlights so you can identify this lovely soul. She was occupied doing her duties but still friendly and responsive. I went back today to donate a few more things from my house purge. If Marissa was there, I would donate to Goodwill. If not, I would donate to Salvation Army. She was there! She was friendly again, and I told her thanks again. She deserves recognition and a raise because you're actually getting revenue based on WHO IS IN THE RECEIVING ROOM in my case and many others according to these reviews. If you don't like that woman on duty, I urge you to drive over to the lovely gentleman, Don and Bob, who work donations at Salvation Army. But if Marissa is on duty, drop off your items with confidence knowing there are still very nice people who work at this location. There was a gentleman working with her today, too, and he was also very nice. If I go back and realize that woman no longer works there, I will be increasing my stars on this review. Far and away the worst Goodwill I've ever visited. I grew up on thrifting and going to yard and rummage sales, and I've thrifted all over the cape, throughout the country, and even abroad. All of this to say, I've been to my share of thrift shops, and this goodwill is horrible. Lousy items, poorly organized, and way overpriced. The current woman who runs this Goodwill charged us $10 for two $1.99 T-shirts. She claimed they were not t-shirts and wouldn't let us return them. One of the shirts literally says EVERYDAY TEE. If you want to be gaslit about what a t-shirt is go to this Goodwill. read more

I can't say anything about the store itself but the donation center is miserable. The people there are rude every single time. I understand their job is probably not particularly enjoyable, but they genuinely lack baseline kindness and decency. I'm 8.5 months pregnant and the woman stood three feet from me and stared as I tried to wrestle a box into the donation bin on wheels, rather than just helping to even hold the bin still. As soon as I put it down she started criticizing things I brought (an in good shape children's toy, which most donation centers will take). She was just emanating a miserable existence into the world. I wish there was an alternative for donating goods because this place is really a bummer. read more

I will never donate to this goodwill again! as many other reviewers have noted, the woman at the donation center is incredibly unpleasant, bordering on rude. if she is so miserable with her job she should take some time off or find a position that does not have to deal with the public. a simple "thank you" would be an easy start! and if you don't want to accept a donation that someone has packed in their car; drove to your location; dragged out of their car and into your door, you could at least do it with an apology, explanation, thanks, and perhaps a suggestion of where they might donate said items...the curt "no" is such a turn off and totally unnecessary read more

I just dropped off donations to the Goodwill in Hyannis. I regret not going back and taking them to an organization that would appreciate them. Heads up, they will not take anything that has been opened. Does that mean they only want new items? Never again will I support this location. The facility is dirty and unorganized and the supervisor (?) needs an attitude adjustment. Their criteria makes no sense. I am referring to the drop off section of this Goodwill. Personally I would give it no stars the people there were so rude to me last night that I will never give anything else to Goodwill! They I had 5 big bags ,I'm an older person, they required me to haul the bags to the center of the drop-off place and when I didn't put it exactly where they wanted it. They asked me to move it to where exactly they wanted it. They stood there and looked at me. The least they could have done is offered to hold the door for me! Rude rude rude! read more

I have been to many Goodwill stores mostly on Connecticut. When I moved to the cape I found the Goodwill..It's Awful. In the 7 years I've been on the Cape I periodically check in...why can't this store get it together..I've been in Retail Management for 28 years. It can be done..I don't think anyone cares. With so many GW stores in the valley, this one is close to our home. This particular store is not the same caliber as others, hence the 3 stars. This store is limited on furniture and men's clothing. I know goodwill stores like no other. I've done nearly every state the eastern seaboard, including 9 in one day. So, listen up, Hyannis...this one is for you. And yes, it's my wife's fault. She's the addict; I'm along for the ride, and more often than not, the entertainment. This trip was forced upon my compliments of mother nature, who decided to drown out our last day on the cape for vacation. Cabin fever forced 9 of us to go to goodwill, an hour away. So here's the verdict. My rubric for grading is the yelp norm, notarized and copyrighted, in order of importance. Smell: C. I know aunt Ethel's been dead for ten years, but please, someone, wash her bras before dropping them off. That disco suit that's been in the cedar chest since 1977? Yup, it's here, and stinking up the store. This store suffers from a common malady, known as mothballitus. Common to goodwill stores with poor ventilation and musky clientele. Fabreeze, anyone? Muzak: B. pop radio station. Nothing exciting. A few tunes to hum, albeit off key due to pinching the nose. Lighting: C. Poor lightng in goodwill is unacceptable. Stains must be seen, reconciled, and considered. If I'm going to walk a mile in someone else's bodily fluid stains, I want to know about it. No fair for me to get malplaque and not know about it. Bring your own black light and/or LED headlamp. Cleanliness: B+. pretty good. I wouldn't volunteer to eat dinner off the floor, but nothing out of line. Organization of clothing: C+. The organization of men's pants is maddening...put all pants of like color together, and then expect men...who hate shopping...to sift through 79 pairs of tan khakis, looking for the magical 34/30 that isn't stained, ripped, or from 1986. Maddening exercise of needle in a haystack. Few goodwills have caught on to the logical method: sort by waist size, regardless of color. Give me the size that fits, I'll decide on the color. State college, pa...case in point. Bravo. Quality of clothes: A-. Pretty darn good. Lots of quality brands...should be, considering the cost of living on the cape. Mr. Bean, tommy h., Ralph, et. Al were present. Not bad. Not much ghetto brands, if that's your thing. Employees: A-. Pretty good. No noticeable issues. Other notes: no toys...good location... Reviews from me are few and far between as I usually only write a review online if I have had a terrible experience... This review is not for the store but for the donation center, my wife and I went in today to donate some stuff that we have left over that were belonging to my late father-in-law that just passed away. This is our second visit to a Goodwill donation store in the past week as we had to give some of his goods from a storage locker in the Trumbull area of Connecticut, surprising that they took everything that we brought to their store (books, clothing, movies and other household items). However, this store was not anything like that one! We brought in similar items (older books that were in his study, household goods, old record player, various other odds and ends to include a elderly bench for a shower). The items were dusty having been in boxes due to him being put into a nursing home, but not trash, but the lady working at the store was rude, well, I would say rude is being nice, she was worse then rude she was unpleasant and nasty. Understand the things we were bringing in are things your location does not need and were not brand new but you do not have to be an a**hole about it. If you are the greeting/face of a customer service business then you should be polite and cordial even if people are bringing in things you are not going to take. Lastly, to come out and say that Goodwill policy is to not take some of the stuff we brought in like the older books is just straight BS, as we just dropped off older books last week at the other Goodwill. If you do not want something that is fine, but do not say it is not what Goodwill takes as that is untrue. In the end my wife and I went to Salvation Army location in the area, they were more then happy to take our charitable donation and the guys who took the boxes said have a good day. Way to go GOODWILL, obviously my good will is not enough for you, I will not be coming to this location for our clothing and other charitable donations anytime soon! read more

We dropped off two trailer loads of items a couple years ago. This particular location in Hyannis, MA acts like they are doing you a favor when you drop off merchandise for them to make money on? We drop off items in good condition and nothing broken or dirty at GW in other cities all the time, We have NEVER had someone pick though our items with such distain and disgust, then give us hard time about what we are donating. I really don't like this drop off center or the woman running it. We just cleaned out the house and have two more trailer loads of items to donate... I think I will find some other place to take our items seeing how the reviews seem to indicate nothing has changed at this drop off location. Why drive an hour to donate items and get treated rudely? Nice Goodwill store, tons of clothes for both men and women all segregated by color. Mostly clothes, some glassware and knick knacks. It does smell somewhat, but what do you expect. Employees are very friendly. If you are looking for anything but clothes, it is not worth it really. They have a lot of name brand clothes though in good condition. The prices are typical of Goodwill, not the cheapest around, but fair, I guess. It is for charity. I dropped off a bunch of clothes too and it is staggering how much they have in the drop off area next door to the store. I overall like the store for clothes shopping. read more

Remember the days when you took that bicycle with the bent wheel to Goodwill and the handyman there managed to fix it and they sold it for a fair price? Forget it. Not here at least. I dropped of some really nice stuff, including new, at the back door. Mrs. Cratchitt told me that "We don't take this and we don't want that. We are not your trash receptacle, now take this stuff with you." Where's the gratitude for donating? I give you a hundred bucks and you complain? How much do you hate this job that you have to be rude & share your displeasure with those who provide you and your fellow employees with an opportunity? Fear not, I will not be back with another donation. In most businesses, that kind of rudeness would result in dismissal. ............and why is this not one star? Simply, the balance of the employees are happy to have this opportunity, and while this place is a bit dark and has that old time odor, it is generally well organized. Really a stunning used store. I had a wonderful time just going through their t-shirts, a great selection there was. There was also a solid offering of books and sharper quality lamps and that style of smaller materials. But the real attraction here is the clothes and they had an enormous amount, great quality and pricing was solid. read more

I am advising everyone in the Hyannis area to take their Charitable donations elsewhere. I just loaded a truckload of household goods and clothing to donate to Goodwill. I manage a non profit thrift store in Maine and was extremely careful about the items that were chosen to donate. The woman that greeted us turned away every item. I was shocked and still am. My sister loves to shop at this store and I wanted to support it. Too bad. Please consider a more local thrift store in your neighborhood. read more

Came to donate, not shop; very pleasant employees inside the main store. At drop-off section, as I staggered in with my box..."Whaddya got?" I showed her. "Put it in there if you can get it up." Pointed to overflowing bin, no offer to help. Shoved my box in, headed back to the car...no offer to help. I had a van full of stuff, including bags of rags, which i brought in next.
