I had windows installed in my home and needed some painting on the
sills of the windows. I called "The Good Son" for an estimate. He wrote up an estimate at $1020 low and $1090 high. I am an 82 year single women and not very savvy when it come to painting. Tom said it would take two men to do the work, I didn't question him. When his employee showed up I left him alone returning at 1:30. He said he finished his lunch and it had taken him 3 hrs. to remove silicone from the six windows that was left from removing the old windows. The employee also told me there was a lot of prep work left to do. I took my dog for a walk and when I came back he was getting out of his car around 2:30. I still did not question him, I left and he called me at 3:00 and said he was leaving. He had put a thin coat of plaster over the plastering on the windows the window installers had previously applied. His employee showed up the next work day and said it was "paint day." I was shocked, no masking, no taping and I had furnished the paint. The employee did a little sanding on the sills and painted them and also painted the plaster around the windows. It took him a few hrs. I had given Tom a check for $500 before the job started, he then billed me another $400 which I paid. I paid him $900 and should have gotten the work of two men. Tom told me on the phone the job only required one man on the first day of the job and the one man was very anxious to please Tom. Tom did stop by during the job and filled some small holes above the dining room window. $900 was more than double what it should have cost, $500 would have done the job and then some. There was no remnants of silicone, no dust from sanding etc. From this day forward I will get 3 bids and I will ask what the job consists of. I don't plan to do further business with this company. read more
