If I could give zero stars for customer service, I would. My experience at The Good Guys Gepps Cross was honestly one of the most frustrating retail experiences I've ever had, and I only ended up making the purchase because the manager finally stepped in -- after over an hour of nonsense. It started with a simple call to the store about a product. I was put on hold for nearly an hour. When someone finally picked up, I was understandably frustrated -- and yes, I raised my voice. But it was after the woman on the phone immediately cut me off, told me she was too busy, and acted as if I was a burden for calling at all. As if I'm not busy too? I told her how long I'd been on hold and asked her to please not dismiss me. She kept interrupting, told me I was being rude (with a completely condescending tone), and then hung up on me mid-sentence. Sure, I raised my voice -- but I didn't swear or insult anyone. I was frustrated because she was being rude first, and I'd wasted almost an hour waiting to speak to someone. So I went into the store to sort it out in person. When I calmly explained what had happened to the staff member at the front desk, she interrupted me, said she was the one on the phone, and again accused me of being rude. She actually said, "I was with her the whole time," as if I had no right to be upset. Instead of offering help or trying to resolve anything, she just escalated the tension and made it feel like a personal grudge. Completely unprofessional. I asked to speak with a manager. She said they were too busy and that I'd have to wait. So I did -- for over 30 minutes -- while staff avoided eye contact, whispered about the situation, and made zero effort to help. Eventually, the store manager came out, and to his credit, he was calm, respectful, and handled it like a professional. He apologised for the behaviour I experienced, listened to my side of the story, and offered $50 off my purchase as a gesture of goodwill. That manager was the only person in the store who acted like a Good Guy. Without him, I would've walked straight out and never returned. I don't expect the red carpet when I walk into a store, but I do expect to be treated like a human being -- especially when I'm spending my money. What I got was eye-rolling, blame-shifting, and a complete lack of accountability. Yes, I raised my voice -- but it was after being disrespected, interrupted, and hung up on. TLDR refused to install the aircon we bought from them unless we bought one that is too big for the room. +1 Manager was helpful when we didn't have an extra 1K Full Story Ordered an 2.7kw aircon online that suited the area of our loungeroom 21m sq, selected a day for installation when I would be home. Installation is changed to when I'm at work, I had to go into the store because this isn't something that can be sorted over the phone. On the install day the guy arrives 8am (not the install time), says he wont do an install unless we buy a 5kw aircon for a room of 30-60m and kept asking to take our aircon. As the staff instore had mentioned he was dodgy I refused to let him take the aircon. We couldn't contact the store because it wasn't open yet and we offered to install doors to the lounge (which we have) and just got a confusing response from him. I was able to call home service, but they didn't get back to me until about 2pm saying the contractors use random online calculators to decide what size aircon a room should use and I couldn't sign a waver to have my 2.7kw installed. The manager in store was really helpful and seemed understanding when I explained I didn't have another thousand dollars to spend, he was able to swap us to the 5kw within my budget. The installer didn't come back to install it and I feel like I've been scammed. A few more calls to home services (if you don't get Page or Danny you're screwed) and a week later the aircon gets installed. End result is we have an aircon that is way too powerful, we try to run it on the "silent" mode but it rumbles and doesn't sound healthy, so we have to use the "low" setting which blows stuff off the wall that's only 4m away. Iain's got it spot on - this place is awesome if you know exactly what you're looking for. Some time ago, I was searching for a new dryer. Being from Victoria, I did most of my searching for a dryer in Melbourne, but because I travel so much, I did end up in here at one point. While I didn't find exactly what I wanted, or rather, what I wanted at the price I wanted it for, I was quite happy with the service provided by the sales guy that was helping me. You might wonder "why couldn't he get what he wanted at the price he wanted, when they price match?", and that's a good question. It really just came down to transport, and getting it delivered to my place several hundred kilometres away. Otherwise, this was one of the better places I went into. The store lie about their delivery drivers on sitting here waiting for them they came up with a lame excuse that the truck had broken down , and clearly they had taken lunch ....,liars liars liars . On a positive note : the sales asstitant Philip was fantastic yr other staff need to follow he's lead . I spent just over 3k with them and then they fall apart at delivery tut tut tut . It's a shame as in the store they portray a professional service . But let thereselves down . ooh and miraculously the truck was fixed in an hour ! My dad has worked with alot of trucks and Hes never been able to pin point an hour to fix them. There is one guy in the TV section I always try to avoid. He is really pushy and I don't like him. There's another lad I usually wait for. Gotta know what you want though and do your research because they don't know that much about the stuff they sell. Be prepared and get yourself a good deal. They always price match and try to do their best for you. read more
