After we checked out various places around town, my wife and I sat down to chat about it. We both picked this place as giving us the best "vibe" of any of the schools we looked at. Pricing is reasonable. There is a summer session as well if you are into that. My only minor beef, very minor, is that they follow the Lee's Summit schools if weather is "bad". They pretty much call off school at the drop of a hat in LS in my opinion. Additionally, the LS schools seem to have some kind of holiday or whatnot constantly. However, I'd assume most of the preschools are similar these days, so I can't really penalize Traditions for what is probably standard practice. Some of the larger daycares that I jokingly call "puppy mills" with zillions of kids are open more often and close less readily I think. Again, though, it is what it is, and I'd rather send my daughter to a higher quality place versus one where the schedule was slightly more convenient given the choice. We've been sending our daughter here for two years now and I can't think of any reason to consider anywhere else in the LS area. From what I can gather, other parents are equally happy with them. Over winter break, our kiddo was missing this place so much, she was carrying a backpack around asking us to play school with her. That's a good sign that your child is being treated well at school, when they can't wait to go back.

My family volunteered, took on odd jobs and were most grateful for this place in the four fab Fowler kids' upbringing. Once they went to public schools, the memorization, phonics based reading education and clear tried and true lessons in math history drama and science taught by passionate instructors was instrumental in their superb public school habits and grades. Love SCA which was 'Lees Summit Community Christian School' back then!

It was such a great experience that the next year we moved her into five days. The next year pre-K, kindergarten and then added child number two and eventually child number three. We have got to experience many different styles of teaching, grades, and also how it's different between girls and boys but one clear message is the same: that you are loved and that God loves you. The Education is excellent. It's also really fun to see organized sports, arts and extra curricular activities beginning within the school at the early ages too! We have loved it, and if you quickly do the math for three children, you can easily see that it is beyond worth it to us!!!

The biggest challenge is accountability. The school is not held to any specific standards for accountability and even though the board of trustees job is to uphold Waldorf values and strengths, the current group of adults lacks the integrity and they do not do their research. Prairie Moon holds prejudices against teachers and students who are different and/or vulnerable. Prairie Moon allows children to be bullies at the school so long as their parents have money. Prairie Moon is an elitist school which uses adults until they find out that those adults want for the school to be held responsible for their actions. Prairie Moon lacks compassion and understanding and there is unwillingness to accept responsibility and provide support for students who have high behavioural needs, they do not provide sufficient support, training or resources to teachers when they need it. Prairie Moon School does not teach respect or have respect for the privacy of other. As a teacher I was made to be available and accessible to all other faculty at all times of day and night. One teacher even went as far as giving my personal address to families that I worked with when I asked her not to. If you are a worker under the age of 25 you are also treated poorly and used. The administration came to my home on several occasions when I worked there after being asked to stop. I worked hard, I was a good teacher and I spoke up when there were wrong doings at the school. In the end when I had to leave they acted like there was no room for growth within the school. As it is, it is hanging my a thread and it should not be in operation.

Could not be happier. I chose Prairie Moon to help teach our boys emotional intelligence. And they get so much more also. Many of the children there seem to be testing above their grade levels especially compared to public schools.

The owners and teachers are very loving and consistent with the children. On several occasions, if one of the girls was sad or upset about leaving mom (me) to be at school, a teacher would offer to snuggle or sit with them until they felt better. My kids have become deeply attached to their daytime and afternoon teachers over the past year, and it's been a relief that turnover has been very low in my experience. I also appreciate the kindness and understanding I've received as a parent from all of the staff members--which has not always been my experience at other schools. Academically, I'm very impressed. My older daughter is in the elementary classroom, which is a range of children from K-3rd grade. She would be in kindergarten in public school, but she's consistently bringing home 1-2nd grade worksheets that she has finished with flying colors! She was just beginning to sound out words when she started, and now she is working on reading basic chapter books. She's also learned to add and subtract fractions, understands the scientific process, and has a solid grasp on the geography of the United States and the continents of the world. My younger daughter is officially in their preschool program, but she has also learned to read and is working on kindergarten-level math skills. The elementary program offers a long list of field trips and special events in the classroom, such as their holiday parties, Christmas program, "coffee house poetry cafe" event, and more. These schools may look pretty ordinary from the outside, but the amount of love and care that goes into the curriculum and the students is amazing.

My kids were always in good hands here and the curriculum was above par. My kids were taught to think, not memorize and their concepts of the Montessori math have given them such an advantage in their current public school. They learned about maps, diversity, science and they loved every minute of it. When one of my kids felt a lack of confidence Mrs Debbie stepped in personally to help him find his learning style. She discovered with him that he really enjoyed putting together books and his confidence sky rocketed. We miss this place, very fond memories.
