As of Oct 1st they are charging $30 for guest pass. Absolutely ridiculous! I would recommend going somewhere else.

I can't say enough good things about Guidepost Montessori Leawood. I have two children who attend,…read moreone of whom requires additional support and receives occupational therapy at school. The staff has been incredibly accommodating and has truly gone above and beyond to support our family. Since starting at Guidepost, I have seen both of my children thrive--not only in their development, but also in their social and life skills. Every teacher is incredibly kind, loving, and genuinely invested in the success of all the students. I have complete peace of mind knowing my children are safe, supported, and well cared for each day. In addition to the amazing teachers, I truly believe the success of Guidepost Montessori Leawood is due to Tammy, the Head of School, and Kelsy, the Assistant Head of School. Since they began, the school truly feels like a family. We feel incredibly lucky to be part of this community.

We appreciate how Tammy has been all ears and open to hearing all of our woes and concerns. Three years ago we were on the waitlist to start our first and when there was an opening the communication felt very lacking and our gut instinct was to hold out. We are very glad we did and it seems the timing worked out how it was supposed to. The communication with the guides has been great and we have the opportunity to watch our kids once a week in the classroom. We can call in anytime and check in with what our boys are up to and looking over their daily pictures gets our kids talking about their day. So far our experience has been good.

It's been four years and time for an update. I'm so happy to share that my opinion of Parkwood has…read moreonly grown since I wrote that first review in 2022. We had a rocky start with our oldest daughter as being born during covid made for a harder transition to daycare. That being said, Parkwood worked with her and by the time she was into their preschool program she was thriving and had a strong community of kids and teachers at her disposal. By the time she "graduated" from pre-k last year we had met most of the staff and were really thrilled with everything about our experience from the extremely low turnover of staff, to the approachability of the program director, to the dedication of the founder who is still very much involved. Our daughter left Parkwood being able to write her name, read a few words, and even knowing some spanish and yoga. Nowadays, our 14 month old goes here and at this point it very much feels like we are part of a bigger community as we know many of the other families that also send their kids here, and we know the staff really well. Parkwood is now located in Overland Park at Indian Heights United Methodist Church and while it's been a while waiting on the new addition - they are working on a standalone building that will serve as their primary care center here, which I think will be wonderful once it's completed. I won't sugarcoat the price as it isn't cheap to send kids here, but it isn't the MOST expensive in town either. I find that Parkwood Day School does a good job of keeping costs as low as they can while also maintaining a safe, clean, and educational environment for all the kids that attend. All this to say, I feel really lucky to have found this school and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a good daycare/preschool to send their little ones to.

They support researched-based developmental learning for children 6 weeks to 6 years old and also have therapists (PT, OT, and speech) on site to conduct regular screenings to determine if your child needs additional developmental support/IEP. As a speech therapist myself, I was pleased to see therapy services are offered because they were not at several other places we toured. They just recently started using an app that logs your child's nap times, feeding times/amount, and potty. The thing my husband and I love is they upload pictures throughout the day and describe what activity your child is working on and what developmental skill it targets (fine motor, gross motor, eye-hand coordination, sitting core strength, language, etc). The staff is friendly, quick to respond, and our daughter is always happy upon drop-off and pick-up. Highly recommend Parkwood.

During my time at Primrose Leawood, I observed an overwhelming amount of children had behavioral…read moreissues with many of them being quite severe and disruptive. It is left solely up to the teachers to discipline and handle these behaviors with no support. For example, kindergarten students regularly physically fight each other and some are still not required to be potty trained which results in many accidents in class. When management is called in, the child is rewarded for misbehaving. When behavior escalates and parents are informed, they scream at the management who then get mad at the teachers. If behavioral management isn't a strong skill, I would look somewhere else. Additionally, the management is comprised of four team members. One is amazing, one is competent, one refuses to do her job, to the detriment of the teachers and their curriculum, and one is too obsessed with drama and judgment towards her young, female employees to even realize she has a job. The amount of judging and degrading language I received or overheard from the director is appalling. If you believe she isn't judging you, think again! Unfortunately, jealously is a disease that McDowel cannot find a cure for. Lastly, the veteran teachers are wonderful and kind! My coteacher was a saint! You will be set up for success if paired with one of them. Unfortunately this is not true for all teachers. Many teachers in the younger rooms spend the whole day on their phones and offload all responsibilities onto their coteacher, regardless of if they're the teacher assigned to the room or not. Even during outdoor recess, the prekindergarten teachers will sit out of sight on the wall on their phones rather than make sure the kids are safe, leaving the safety of 24 children solely on you. It is extremely disheartening and dangerous that this is a known issue that is allowed to continue. All in all, there are clear issues that make this job unnecessarily hard, namely unresolved behavioral issues and mean staff members. Aside from the youngest member, do not trust the management. They will use any information you give them to make your work life harder.

We love that the location is free standing and appears very secure and well kept. The hallways are wide, clean and clutter free. The rooms all have a lot of windows and are well lit. There are age appropriate toys that do not look old or too worn. I consistently see money being put back into the property and the classrooms such as new ride on toys in the early toddler rooms and large touch screen computers in the preschool rooms. This location is definitely not convenient for us and, trust me, we have looked at several other daycare options that would be much closer to our home and work (more than once) but nothing ever compares to Primrose School of Leawood! We have been very happy here.

I wanted a school where they would be loved and comforted, receive educational enrichment and really begin to grow into the little people they will become. It was also very important that they attend a school with a Christian based teaching and care philosophy. Bethany Lutheran fit the bill perfectly! The teachers and staff made me feel comfortable and secure leaving my children in their care and the smiles I see at pick up tell me they are truly enjoying their time at school. While at Bethany I have seen a dramatic leap in my children's development and I absolutely give credit to their fantastic teacher's who work with them to provide an edge; both with their educational and personal development. The owners and teachers are very loving and consistent with the children. On several occasions, if one of the girls was sad or upset about leaving mom (me) to be at school, a teacher would offer to snuggle or sit with them until they felt better. My kids have become deeply attached to their daytime and afternoon teachers over the past year, and it's been a relief that turnover has been very low in my experience. I also appreciate the kindness and understanding I've received as a parent from all of the staff members--which has not always been my experience at other schools. Academically, I'm very impressed. My older daughter is in the elementary classroom, which is a range of children from K-3rd grade. She would be in kindergarten in public school, but she's consistently bringing home 1-2nd grade worksheets that she has finished with flying colors! She was just beginning to sound out words when she started, and now she is working on reading basic chapter books. She's also learned to add and subtract fractions, understands the scientific process, and has a solid grasp on the geography of the United States and the continents of the world. My younger daughter is officially in their preschool program, but she has also learned to read and is working on kindergarten-level math skills. The elementary program offers a long list of field trips and special events in the classroom, such as their holiday parties, Christmas program, "coffee house poetry cafe" event, and more. These schools may look pretty ordinary from the outside, but the amount of love and care that goes into the curriculum and the students is amazing.

My kids were always in good hands here and the curriculum was above par. My kids were taught to think, not memorize and their concepts of the Montessori math have given them such an advantage in their current public school. They learned about maps, diversity, science and they loved every minute of it. When one of my kids felt a lack of confidence Mrs Debbie stepped in personally to help him find his learning style. She discovered with him that he really enjoyed putting together books and his confidence sky rocketed. We miss this place, very fond memories.
