Southampton Summer Day Camp - Decorated for a Bar-Mitzvah! HUGE blank space!!

Southampton Summer Day Camp

(2 reviews)

Where do I even begin?! Best camp in Bucks County, if not the whole country! I think the fact that…read morethey are celebrating their 43rd anniversary speaks for itself. This fact alone, played a huge factor when selecting summer camp for my son this year. A camp that has successfully opened its doors every summer for the last almost half century must be good. And oh it is good. Very good! The grounds are beautiful. When you visit, you forget that you are close to home. It feels as though you drove a couple of hours into Poconos. Lush green lawns, many old trees, even a lake! The camp grounds are set up such as there is a little town, with little wooden arrow signs pointing in all directions. They have a large heated pool designed for both early swimmers as well as more mature ones. They have full tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer field and baseball field among others. They have a rock climbing wall and a zip-line that goes across the lake! A horse track with two horses. Probably so much more that I am forgetting as well. Each child gets a schedule packed full of activities. In fact, activities change every 45 minutes and transition is seamless. When visiting on parent day I was so impressed by organization of the place. Everything is timed and perfectly in tune with no glitches. I guess they have done it plenty enough in the last 43 years. We love the fact that our son gets swimming lessons once a day with an instructor as well as a free swim in the afternoon. We event received a progress report on his swimming progress, it was really nice to know where he stands. In addition to all the activities, there are constantly events going on as well. They had a show, where each bunk presented on stage in front of others. Color games, carnival week with carnival rides, a late night special, where kids stay later into the night. The excitement with which my son comes home is priceless. Every day he tells me about trying new activities such as cooking or new games that he has not tried before. Also, I love the fact that he was able to make friends very quickly. His Counselor Michelle is beyond nice and accommodating. She also happens to be his transportation. The pick-up and drop off at home is super convenient but next year we might even try extended hours, which are actually very affordable. Overall, I could not be happier with the camp. When we requested information, we actually received a DVD that had a long movie about day to day activities at the camp. It was very helpful. Jacque and Rick, the owners of the camp are very easy to get in touch with and always extremely helpful over the phone and email. In fact Jacque went out of her way to get me the information on registration only a day before the deadline and still gave me the discount. We love this camp and cannot wait to have our daughter there next year as well. We would highly recommend it to anyone!

I would avoid this place at all costs. This place is very pricey for a summer day camp in this area…read moreyet they nickel and dime you. At the camp show, one of the camp directors kept INSISTING you cannot record your own child! Multiple times she got up to chastise people who did nothing more than try to film their own child in the show! They sell a DVD of the show they are forcing you to buy if you want a video. Well, who has a DVD player these days? And this time around our child was so excited to be in the show and told family members all about it and since they could not attend were very disappointed not to be able to see a cell phone video of it. We did not order the DVD since we have no DVD player but we heard they took 7 months to send them out! So to recap, they ban you from filming your own child (imagine that!) so you have to buy their overpriced DVD which took them 7 months to send out! And this horrible woman who lacks basic social skills scolds parents during the show like they are kindergarteners! I recommend finding a camp who would not nickel and dime their camp families like this and treats their families with respect. We enrolled at another camp and told the new director this situation and he just chuckled and said, 'you are always welcome to take videos of your child here.'

He started out with Miss Madison & Miss Monica and they did a really great job as he was transitioning and getting used to a new space. I loved hearing at pickup how great of a day he had. Now his current teachers Miss Kayla & Miss Madison have been awesome with training him to use the restroom. I explained what I have been doing at home and they have really been on top of getting him fully potty trained! Whenever I have a concern I love how they are so attentive with answering questions and finding solutions. I am happy with the care he receives and I love how he never has anything negative to say about his teachers! I am at ease knowing he is in a loving environment where he actually wants to go to school every day to see Miss Kelly & Miss Sydney as soon as we walk in as well as his teachers once we get in the classroom! I visited the Michener Art Museum a few weeks ago on a Saturday when my husband and I were in…read moreDoylestown. It was my first visit, and I really loved it. The Michener isn't huge, but it's a lovely museum. It's located inside a historic 19th century prison building, which sounds like it wouldn't be beautiful - but it is beautiful: stone walls, an arched entry, a courtyard. It's named for the novelist and Doylestown resident James A. Michener, who established the endowment for the museum and donated significant funds and some paintings from his private collection to the museum, which opened in 1988. As a regional art museum, it collects both historic and contemporary American works, with a focus on the art of the Delaware Valley. Its permanent collection includes nearly 4,000 artworks, including works by famous Pennsylvanian artists. I happen to love Wharton Esherick and George Nakashima and was thrilled to see their work in the museum! I wish we'd had more time so that I can could read for a bit in the Nakashima Reading Room - don't miss it. The museum also has a small outdoor sculpture garden, a small gift shop, and a little cafe if you need a coffee. And on top of all that, their staff are friendly and helpful AND they have great exhibits! We visited for an exhibit currently at the museum - "Anila Quayyum Agha: interwoven" (I had seen her work at a gallery in Houston about a decade ago and was thrilled to find another opportunity to see her work) - but really enjoyed their permanent collection as well. A small but charming and regional art museum with an impressive and unique permanent collection and great exhibits. Definitely check it out if you're in the area!

Built on the site of the inhumane Bucks County Jail, not only is the art museum diverse, the grounds are fascinating. Before entering, you'll see sculptures and an imposing stone wall -- the site of the last man hanged in Bucks County. Exhibits are on one beautifully-designed level. Most of the artists and/or subjects celebrate the creativity of the region: paintings, sculptures, works that could be called "installations." With the exception of the Mona Lisa (and a few other pieces) I'm not a fan of Renaissance or religious art. Works here span the 1800s to present -- a lot of contemporary -- which may be why I soaked in everything I saw. Doylestown isn't as well known as New Hope ... but, what a charming town with beautiful old homes and good shopping. After going through the museum -- it takes an hour or so -- you may want to walk to Main Street and enjoy a coffee or spot of lunch. We lucked out and inadvertently timed our visit on the same day as Doyletown's popular art show. A stellar afternoon!
