Its a family run establishment and they are great. From calling you a taxi to get home or to another destination they will go out of their way for you. Its actually one of my favourite pubs in Athy and well worth a visit.

Tully's Pub, what can I say about this place?! It's a great place for lunch, they make great soups and sandwiches, sit in the window and watch all the Carlow folk going about their business. I would usually meet my brother's or their current girlfriends here every Saturday afternoon for a drink and it would be a great start to our weekend. The atmosphere is cool hippy/student/don't give a fuck locals/yer aunty Mary and the local priest all slapped into one little space. Van Morrison/The Cure/Lady Gaga/Christy Moore/Bob Marley/Radiohead.. could be playing on the sound system, and it's all grand, it's just...Tully's! My bro's say they pull a great pint here(Guinness, a "pint" is always Guinness unless stated otherwise) and if you come here on Christmas eve you will meet all your old friends who emigrated to US/Japan/OZ/UK/EU....the whole local Irish contingent abroad gather and have a proper knees-up! Love this place!

Suffice to say, most certainly from my point of view and also my pal Archie we met a kindred spirit - wife Mairead in the background big time keeping order and what a bloody hard task that was/is! Returned with gangs of people over the years on Dublin weekends and I hope we didn't upset too many people - the most disturbed were our internal organs but then again that was self induced. As I consider getting out of bed for, oh a good three hours... I ponder Paddy's Day. Is it one of…read morethose holidays that lets you down as badly as a much-anticipated New Year's Eve? However, I have come to the conclusion that, unlike New Year's Eve, which is all about planning months in advance, dressing up in something you're probably not comfortable in, paying astronomical entrance fees, and the pressure of having to have someone to kiss at midnight, Paddy's Day is more casual and spontaneous. Yes, the pubs are crammed, but if the day is fine, people spill out onto the streets and drink cans in parks (hiding them from the cops at regular intervals). Parades, concerts and fireworks wake up the normally sleepy towns of Ireland. The mood is merry, people play trad music and dance, girls wear flats and the tricolour flashes itself at every chance. So, donning a green scarf and earrings to mark the occasion, I set off down Newbridge town to drink some cider, soak up the good ol' Irish craic and not care if I've someone to kiss at midnight... Rubber & friends play guitar and bodhrán and sing their hearts out in The Granary as young girls "Irish-dance" in front of the band, looks of serious concentration on their faces, a seven-and-a-half-year-old stopping occasionally to pull up her boob-tube. Only in Ireland...

Called in here on the way back from Kilkenny for a bite to eat with two other people…read more From the outside the place looks great, and it was busy, which we took as a good sign. As we went in at 2.30, the carvery was just finishing, so they told us that it would be 10 minutes before we could order from the main menu, which was the same food as the carvery. One waitress, from the bar,was complaining to another staff member about the wait time as the chefs had said they needed longer to switch kitchens. She looked over at us and we waved at her to come over. She walked straight passed us until we had to call her again. I found this extremely rude. A little bit of communication goes a long way. The next waitress took 10 minutes to come back to us to take our order and advised us again that it would be a few minutes. Bear in mind, we ordered two soups and one chicken dish, not anything over complicated. We waited over 15 minutes for our food, and asked the waitress what the delay was, at this rate we had been sitting down over 30 minutes. She said they were cooking the chicken from Fresh and that was the delay. This was not the case. The chicken arrived with the soup and it was so dried out from sitting under a light that it was uneatable, the potatoes were ok as was the side salad. We complained again, and to be fair, they took the chicken dish off the bill. I felt all we did was complain and wait in the restaurant/bar. I would not stop here again, nor would I recommend it due to both the rudeness of the staff and also the poor food.
