I've just surprised myself when I realised I've never reviewed Speakeasy. So here goes…read more. I regularly pop in here when I'm out on date night with the Mr. There are a few gay bars in the city centre - Speakeasy is the one that caters more to folks in their late twenties upwards - but is also friendly and welcoming to anyone. It's a G1 Group owned business and is the sister bar to Committee Room 9, next door. Decor wise, it's all fairly low lighting, dark reds and lots of dark wood - exactly what a speakeasy should be like! The staff are great - very friendly and helpful. I like that it's open late, has drag queen karaoke, has lots of cheesy 80/90's music, and is about to start a weekly quiz night. There's also a private function room available for booking. And it shares the food menu with the bar next door. Overall a very cheap and relaxed place to spend a few hours.

It just didn't make sense not to, seeing as nearly everyone but me in my crowd was either homosexual, bisexual, transgender, or lesbian. So one night, Will's friend Nat, hooked our entire LA Contingent up with his local Scottish Art-Crowd of Super Gay Partiers - And 'We Were Off to the Races!'. Thus, Nat brought Me, and Will, and everyone else from LA to this place called "Delmonicas", for drinks, for dancing, and that "Very Special Local Experience". We ended up getting pizza and drinks, but Jet Lag won out over the desire to see the Drag Show. I had a pepperoni pizza, and it was too large for me to finish. From what I hear it's the oldest gay bar in town and it certainly seemed popular with older gents. The clientele were all obviously regulars, and no one seemed very interested in meeting us new kids. Our visit was mostly uneventful, but before we moved on I treated myself to Toilets: The Ride. Yes, the toilet was not fastened securely to the floor which made for some unexpected excitement. You gotta get your kicks where you can.

It's a lovely bar, with friendly staff, friendly clientele and a good atmosphere. It's one of these bars I always love when I pay a visit - good vibes, good music, good people - as I write this I realise I need to go here more! It's a welcoming bar, with great background music during the day and then even some Karaoke with Audrey on a Tuesday, and loads of DJs all week!!! On a Saturday we've even got a Drag Queen during the day with bingo!! Only fault with Revolver is it's slightly over-priced drink - but I think there is many a concession that can be made for the attitude-free nature!

As you may have guessed, Revolver is one of Glasgow's many Gay bars, just off the affluent Merchant City area. The bar itself is tastefully decorated and houses a digital jukebox (which is free to use) and a pool table, which we made good use of. The staff are friendly and chatty, and drinks pretty reasonably priced. The bar is also proudly owned and operated by gay managers which perhaps gives them the edge over other, overtly commercialised bars. Definitely worth a trip, a brilliant wee place to start off an evening!

The bar staff are generally great but the bouncers can either be brand new and really lovely or absolute grouchers. Nobody like being on a fun night out and having some grouch of a bouncer pick on someone in the group. Anyway. I found the drink prices ok, music wasn't particularly to my taste on this occasion but it's usually decent enough! Even I manage a boogie in here on occasion :P Overall, Polo is alright but the bouncer issue is always a factor in me deciding whether to follow my pals in here or not!

So I headed to Katie 's and he followed and got refused for being too drunk. So he pulled me across to another bar. I waited till he went to the toilets before trying to get back to katies. Knowing they wouldn't let him in and I'd be safe. They refused me entry be because of this creep who had been following me had been turned down. I said I was trying to get away from him and they told me I'd have to get away from him else where. This is ridiculous. New to the town and scared of this older man I ended up getting a train home because I didn't know where else to go. Thanks katies for refusing entry to get away from a creepy drunk guy. I won't try getting back in again

The opening acts came on by 7:30 which was great as it meant there wasn't a lot of waiting around. The local Glasgow girls were amazingly talented with more than one singing live rather than your traditional lip-sync. Then the main attractions came out: Willam, Courtney Act & Alaska each performed solo (again each singing live) before performing as a trio. I was stood right at the front by the pole so was up-close and personal although I did have to lean and strain from time to time due to super tall people standing at the very front of the stage. After the show, since I had VIP tickets, I joined the queue for the meet and greet. This was by far the worst part as we queued in a narrow hallway that led to the toilets that had no ventilation or air conditioning. It was hot, cramped and people kept squeezing in and out to use the toilets. The long wait in the hot, small space was less than ideal. However then I got to have my photo taken with all three girls--Willam (shockingly) was the nicest and actually talked to me. Courtney and Alaska didn't say a word but what can you do. I got a super cute photo and had an amazing night and was home before 10pm. Normally shows are on a Saturday night and the main act doesn't come on until 1-2am so this was PERFECT for me. I'm always amazed by the level of international talent Lady Munter gets to perform at Menergy--all the top RuPaul's Drag Race girls have made an appearance but I was pleasantly surprised at the level of home-grown talent, too!
