The lady working here was friendly enough and not hovering, so that was a plus. She did get a little spastic when a lady entered shortly after us and failed to spritz her hands with the sanitizer at the door (guess what lady, we didn't either when we came in). Anyhow, the only thing that caught my attention were some fabric oriented handcrafted / hand woven ornamental cushions / wall pieces designed as colorful fish. Actually they caught my under 2 years old grand daughter's attention HAHAHA. I had not bought her a real souvenir on our trip yet and since we were babysitting, while mom and dad zip lined somewhere nearby, I let her pick one out from the dozen present. There were no price tags denoting the cost of these rightfully beautiful items; hmmmmm. She gleefully chose one and we went to the counter. Okay I'm on vacation and expect to pay a little extra for whatever, especially in Hawaii. Cha ching, that'll be $75. WTF? Damn, I was expecting a high of MAYBE $45. So, yes, they have some very nice and unique items in this store, but be prepared to drop a few more coins than expected. Yes, I bought the woven colorful fish for my baby doll anyhow. I wasn't about to disappoint the wee one and I had to be stoic in front of my wife who was laughing internally at me, knowing I can be a cheap ass. This thing was made in Sri Lanka and is suppose to be a one of a kind item. Even if it's not I doubt my granddaughter and her parents will ever bump into anyone having anything similar. Fast forward a month later - she has named the fish (Bubbles), sleeps with it regularly, and carries it with her on outings. So, I guess it was well worth the $$$. If I ever had a reason to go back to this part of the island I'd probably return and see what the latest unique thing the owner has in there. Who knows, I may end buying something else too. The place was A-OK in my books.

If Google let me give negative stars, I'd still ask for more…read more I'm always fair when I post reviews -- I'm not out here trying to ruin anyone's childhood dreams. But good grief, this business has the reliability of a toddler with a sugar crash. I drove a long distance to visit this shop. My partner drove here twice. And every time the place was closed during normal business hours. No sign. No explanation. Not even a sad little sticky note that says, "Oops, my bad." The owner even had the lack of integrity to tell my partner that she would be there today. Hilarious. At this point, I'm convinced the shop is run like a speakeasy: If you know, you know. If you don't, well... good luck, traveler. So, I asked around town. Turns out, the locals know exactly what's going on: Apparently the shop owner is... how do I put this delicately... the human equivalent of a mosquito at a barbecue. Everyone I talked to implied they wish she'd just let someone else take over -- someone who actually wants customers instead of treating them like an optional side quest. You'd think a business owner would occasionally... I don't know... open the business? But no. She's running this place like a part-time hobby she actively resents. And the lack of communication? Chef's kiss. She doesn't even bother to explain why she's never open. At this point, I half expect the shop hours to eventually read: OPEN: When the stars align CLOSED: Always MAYBE: If Mercury is in retrograde AND she feels like it To say she's giving the town a bad reputation is an understatement. This shop is basically the retail equivalent of stepping in gum. Sticky, annoying, and somehow still your problem even though you didn't ask for it. I won't be back. Ever. And you can bet I'll be telling this story everywhere -- Yelp, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, the back of cereal boxes, cave walls... whatever it takes. This store owner isn't just unprofessional -- she's a full-on case study in how not to run a business. Honestly, at this point, a tumbleweed would be a more reliable proprietor.

Walked around and spoke to local residents who said, yeah, haven't seen her, she kind of comes in when she wants to. So I decided, no more. Very unprofessional. Will NOT shop here again. Fun for family and friends to get together. There's a shopping trolley stop which is $2 each trip so that can get you from Queens to Kings marketplace easily. The owner has curated a collection of locally made body products, clothing, holiday ornaments and beautifully hand crafted jewelry. The prices are surprisingly reasonable too. Most all of our gifts and treasures were bought from this wonderful community of artists. The sales staff were like old friends - from the moment we entered, we felt at home. My suggestion to anyone visiting Lahaina is to head directly to the friendly faces at Island Living, and make sure you leave extra space in your luggage because you won't leave their store empty handed.

What made my first visit so special was finding such a unique piece -- a ray, for me symbolizing one of the best free dives of my life -- and meeting the young craftsman who had carved it. We talked for quite a while and I loved hearing him share stories of his creative life and work.
