While not a cheap confection, the fudge at the fudge house needs little elaboration. It is simply delicious. Of course it is a neat shop to wander into, and the irresistible aroma is probably what entices most passerby to enter, the taste and texture of the fudge is incredible. I tried a sea salt caramel fudge and was blown away by the rich almost nuttiness of the sugary caramel flavor. The salt was the perfect accent to this sweet treat. If I ever make it back to Edinburgh, I will definitely stop at the fudge house.

This shop is so much better than the over priced Fudge Kitchen further up the road. If you are a tourist in Edinburgh (or just in Edinburgh) and want to take some fudge home to the relatives as tourists like to do, this is where to get it. A family run business which stocks a great selection of different flavours of fudge. The best thing is the price is not too bad. I picked up some Rum and Raisin fudge and Chocolate Hazelnut for £3. Not too bad for homemade deliciousness. The flavours on offer are amazing, literally every flavour you could imagine. The fudge is delicious too, I meant to save mine to share with the boyfriend but I scoffed the whole lot.

Fudge Bars: £2.60 each

Oof! While I'd had some not-so-great dining experiences in nearby Glasgow, The Fudge House was without a doubt one of the culinary highlights of my jaunt around Edinburgh recently. It's simply brilliant. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? While it's touchy to talk about at times, one of the reasons that Edinburgh is so fantastic is that it embodies so much that makes mainland Europe great while remaining British. This European charm is brought to life within the walls of The Fudge House, and you're immediately teleported to a quaint German or Belgian chocolate shop not unlike the ones that I enjoyed growing up in a smaller German village. Upscale yet cozy, The Fudge Shop has a professional staff and complimentary atmosphere that will no doubt have you browsing for quite some time. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? On of the things that's so beautiful about The Fudge House is that the fudge is cut into stunningly gorgeous bars. They make me think of gold bullion, which I think I might actually be willing to pay in exchange for this sugary deliciousness. At £2.60 each, they're not cheap, but they're affordable for how much you get. Have a look: http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=qX_ynkXGlQGccoUsRih_3g&userid=OKX-V5j_qfuOebeHeWGrHg Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? My caramel fudge was excellent, but I do have one small gripe. Fudge can often either be buttery smooth and creamy or just a tad bit dry, and my bar was strangely a little bit of both. While the bottom was buttery and brilliant, the top was quite a bit drier than the bottom, and the result was a tad bit odd. Besides that, this was a great experience, and the selection is truly breathtaking. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? The atmosphere in and of itself is brilliant, and I'd recommend everyone who visits Edinburgh pay The Fudge House a visit. Star Granted.

Fudge!

The Fudge House has really interesting flavors like lemon, coffee and chocolate peppermint. The prices are pretty average for a fudge shop. The fudge itself is good, but it's not noteworthy.

For Anna (see below) fudge=sugar high. For me fudge= sugar high+my tummy wondering what it did to deserve this. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the fudges' fault, it's my fault for eating copious amounts within small periods of time. This actually happened today when visiting the Fudge House. A little way down the Royal Mile the Fudge House invites you to come look, try and buy all manner of, you guessed it, fudge! There are couple of fudge shops in Edinburgh which decreases your chance of having to walk very far for fudge dosage. Actually the Fudge Kitchen is just up the road, which, when you think of the similarity between the two names, does make you wonder if this is just some capitalist ploy to seemingly generate competition. In theory Fudge House is better than Fudge Kitchen because its an entire house of Fudge and not just a single room. Anyway I digress... I can't really recommend any fudge too much because its all been so great. My favourite the moment is dark chocolate and strawberry. Try it all if you get a chance! Note that the ranges of fudge do change quite a lot, you can always ask about whats on offer. On a touristy note, some of this Fudge is Scottish special (like the whisky fudge), so you might want to try this while you're here. The staff are really friendly and can always recommend something if you're stuck for choice. Love fudge? Love a whole house of it!

I love fudge. It's one of my favourite sweet things to eat, and so to discover that on the Royal Mile there's a place that is full of the stuff made me happy. I was not disappointed with what I found either. There's a large selection of different flavours on offer, and they sell them in little fudge ingots, which look great all sat on display. They also do home delivery, according to the website, which is an almost dangerous thing to offer. I can't imagine the amounts of illness that have been caused by overindulging in their delicious fudge. Yes, there is another fudge shop just up the road, but as Jonny says, why have a room of fudge when you can have a whole house!

From official website

Although I am a supporter of nearby Fudge Kitchen, I thought I would give The Fudge House a try and see if it lives up to Kitchen's high standards. Plus, there's always room for more fudgeries (I'm aware I made that word up) so I popped in here to try some free samples. They have many more options than the Fudge Kitchen which was a good thing right away, and they have a small cafe section which is a pretty good idea. A little bit of fudge goes down even more nicely with a hot cup of coffee. I picked up some chocolate and coconut, which is a flavour I wouldn't usually go for, but it was really tasty, even better when it's been chilled for a couple of hours I think, and about £2 cheaper than Fudge Kitchen! I would say it is equally as good as The Fudge Kitchen, and costs much less!

Happy to purchase my treats!

Also conveniently accessible by bus. There is not much sitting space, such best to book in advance. We got a lovely table at the front window (which by the way is the only table in the front of the shop). I believe there is a very small sitting area in the back. You can find lots of chocolate variations on display on cupboard shelves. At the moment they offer 10% off chocolate bars before a certain time of the day. There are also macaroons, ice cream a (not gelato), pralines and little "cakes". Above the main entrance you see the drink menu written on huge chalk boards: Traditional chocolate, one for kids and one for adults, white chocolate, milky chocolate, dark chocolate and much more. They do coffee too. I ordered salted caramel ice cream and milk chocolate, which was the best hot milk chocolate in Edinburgh so far, and not to mention I got served plenty of it in a big mug. Definitely worth the money. Must confess, my eyes were bigger than my stomach and next time a hot chocolate will be plenty :-) They are also present with stalls at various Edinburgh markets, like Stockbridge. Its an ideal place to take away and enjoy the "pleasures" somewhere else.

If you like chocolate, you will LOVE The Chocolate Tree. Located in the trendy Bruntsfield area, it is in the perfect position to sit in and gorge or sit out and gorge. Their chocolates are all organic (so at least your conscious feels good about eating copious amounts of chocolate...) The decor is very chic, trendy and indulgent. Indeed, I think Indulgence is a theme in the cafe. My first visit was under sad circumstances - recently single and feeling vulnerable, my friend took me and ordered me the 'Spanish Hot Chocolate' (see picture). Oh My God. Where I was feeling despairing, distraught and dismayed I was overcome with delight, deliriousness and felt thoroughly delectable!! It was perfect...perhaps a bit rich, but the first few sips were to die for. It even came with a little dough cake-thing to dip into the thick, gloopy chocolate, like fondue! It would have been ideal for two to share. To be honest, I'm not what you would call a choc-a-holic - especially now that Cadbury's is no longer considered 'chocolate'. But there is something for everyone to enjoy, whether its a slice of their GLORIOUS chocolate cake (it was delicious, after a while I felt I should find a mirror to check if my pupils had dilated) or one of their mini chocolate bites. If you can't make it to the shop they sell online and they're much cheaper than their competition ( it's one of their ethical principles, woohoo!). It really is worth visiting, on a warm summer day to lounge and indulge yourself, or on a cold winter evening to keep yourself warm. It's the sort of place I imagine Harry Potter would sit in...

There is a large variety of chocolate on their shelves, each bar lovingly made and with such creative flavours it'll be hard to choose just one. Highly recommended- lavender chocolate. And their chocolate almonds are pretty fantastic too. I will say it's quite pricey but it's worth it. There are also truffles available as well as stunning gift boxes that make a great gift idea (this was my Valentine's day gift. Loved it!) It's a very small space with a few seats. My reccomendation would be to buy 3 bars for £12, go home, and prepare to have your mind blown by the sheer awesomeness that it Coco chocolate. Or give it away as a gift or share it or something.

One quick little search will prove: I really really like Coco. In fact, I quite recently wrote about the Bruntsfield location and true to form, this little Stockbridge spots lives up to the artisan reputation. So why did this little place get the coveted five stars over Bruntsfield's four? Because it's LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE! Wheeee!! Pre-warning: it is tiny. I wouldn't plan to stay here for a beverage, though Caz is right and they have a chair or two in the window. However, if you have more than two people in the shop, you'd be near elbow to elbow, so I don't see it being a relaxing coffee stop any time soon. BUT they've got a beautiful wall of chocolate bars with every flavour under the sun, a small glass shelved collection of their infamous hand painted chocolates and informal bags of squares, nut clusters, etc, perfect for grey Mondays or "get me through this week" Wednesday afternoons. Between this and Patisserie Madeleine across the road, I see a new waistline in my future...

So for a n afternoon treat, I took her here so we can continue catching up with the chat, laugh, and talk about more crazy stuff. Ha! This place is a cute little dessert bar that has many different desserts on their menu. It's not the greatest dessert place, but I like their gimmick and menu items. They sell many different kid friendly items like sundaes, brownies, cupcakes, milkshakes as well as for grown people like champaign, wine and treats with various types of alcohol. You can get sundaes with different liquor or milkshakes with a shot of alcohol of your desire. My friend shared a boozy fondue... Basically the chocolate had Irish cream, perfect to dip marshmallows, strawberries, popcorn and brownies in. For drinks we stayed classy and got prosecco. This kept us with a good warm feeling and continues the merry atmosphere. Since the place is small, the queue for a place to sit took awhile, but it was worth the wait. You can't get reservations, so you'll have to deal with waiting. The staff get real busy but they are responsive to their customers' needs, so kudos to them. The price is ok... Can get pricey. The fondue we ordered was £12.50 and the prosecco was £5.50. The Sundaes cost around £5.50-£7 and chocolate drinks with alcohol is about £10-12. So this place is really just got special times, unless you got £££ to drop.

I thought the jasmine would be weird but it's actually gorgeous and fruity and totally jasmine but not at all at the same time.
