Oh dear, where to begin? I have had the displeasure of…read morehaving to eat at this establishment not once, not twice, but THREE times in the past two weeks. Firstly, I was out with a friend a couple of weekends ago and we decided to stop for some lunch. I had my dog with us so we decided on a pub, as the weather wasn't too bad (it wasn't raining) we decided to sit outside. Ordering at the bar wasn't too bad, but then somehow they seemed to forget about us? We waited over an hour for our first course before going inside to see when to expect it. The staff had changed when we reached the bar. We were shocked to see only 4 people in the restaurant--so it wasn't as if the staff/kitchen was overwhelmed with orders. They did admit that they had forgotten about us/our order and promised to start making it straight away. We were a bit annoyed, but as we had already paid, we couldn't leave. So we waited. About 40 mins later our soups arrived--which we quickly ate. This time we only waited about 30 mins before going back to the bar to find out when our mains would be arriving. The staff had changed again? There are now 5 people in the restaurant, and again, they admitted to forgetting about us/our order. So again we were told they would start cooking 'right away' and again we had to wait....and again, we were annoyed. About an hour later, right when we were about to cut our loses and just leave, the mains arrive. I had the halloumi salad, my friend had roasted chicken. The food was ok, but I still can't believe our 'quick bite to eat' took nearly 4 hours!! That is just ridiculous!! The staff were not apologetic and to be honest, acted as if this was nothing new and they could care less. I swore I'd never go back. A few days later, another friend called, 'Do you want to go to eat?' 'Sure! Where shall we meet?' 'Oh, I keep passing this place on my way home, want to go there?' 'Sure, send me the post code.' A short drive later, and I can't believe I'm pulling into the drive of 'THAT' pub!! After a quick chat in the car park, my friend convinces me my experience last week was probably a one off and I should give it another chance. 'It looks so cozy' she says. So, I cave and decide to give it another go. Shame on me!! I knew better!! Similar experience, except this time, no dog so we decide to sit inside (it's raining!). We were seated within 5 mins of arriving and given menus. There are about 3 couples in the restaurant. I decide the halloumi salad I had last week wasn't too bad, but I'm not taking any chances on ordering an appetizer this time around. My friend takes about 10 mins to review the menu and decides on roasted cod. Then we wait. There are no wait staff in sight. After 20 mins, I go to the bar, he tells me 'You need to place your order with your server.' We haven't actually seen a server yet, so I have no idea who I should be looking out for, can he please point them out to me? 'Oh, I'm not sure where they are at the moment.' Surely this place isn't so large that you can actually loose people in it? They must be here somewhere if they are on duty and have customers waiting? I'm given a look which clearly says 'go back to your table and wait'. I chide my friend for making me come back to this place, but she won't let me leave because 'it's rude to leave after you've sat down'...??? Twenty mins later, someone appears to take our food and drink order. After placing our order, we waited about 15 mins to get our drinks--one water, one coke (even though we were sat about 5 steps from the bar). We waited about 45 mins to get our food. The food was ok, but no one ever came to ask us if everything was 'ok' or could they get us another drink, etc. When we finished we sat waiting for a good 30 mins before someone came over to ask if we wanted the bill. It took them about 20 mins to get the machine for my card. My friend paid in cash and she was given incorrect change--too little. She approached the waitress to say 'you didn't give me enough change back' and the waitress was very argumentative before giving my friend more change--and in fact giving her 2p too much, which we left on the table. Ordeal over, I repeat, I will never go back there again! Which brings us to today. I get a call from a third friend who is looking to buy a house and she wants me to go with her to a few viewings. As a thanks, she says she's taking me to dinner. On the way, I'm looking at brochures and calling agents back and looking at the diary and scheduling more appointments, etc (not paying attention). We actually parked, got out of the car, and walked into the restaurant before I realized where I was. It was the same nightmare all over again. Overall, the food is 'ok', but not great. The service is...well, non-existent basically. I know I've said it before, BUT, I don't plan to go back to this place. There are a lot of other options in the area and next time I will INSIST we go elsewhere. Bottom Line: Sadly, I can not recommend this place

So much better when it was Bluebeckers! Why did it have to change?! Even though we had a…read morereservation, my 2 friends and I were totally ignored by all staff (there were about 5 in the immediate area) upon arrival. We waited and waited to be acknowledged inspite of trying to get attention politely. Eventually my friend literally had to grab a waiter. We were made to feel that we weren't wanted as they were busy. We were put in a dark corner in a busy, filled room with a large, noisy party, and pretty much forgotten about. The menu was boring, limited and uninspiring. The dishes were not well cooked, not presented well and did not taste good. Service poor. I will not be going back there in a hurry.

The setting and service were amazing from the beginning. Following our initial "wow, this place is…read moreamazing" we were served amazing food! The chorizo, the asparagus, the meat pie and the steak sandwich were so gooooood! Then we decided to have some pudding with toffee caramel. Amazing!

The Leather Bottle used to be a bikers pub but has been taken over by a chain called Bluebeckers…read moreand has been modernised throughout. I visited for lunch yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised, I had been expecting it to be the usual pub chain blandness but it was lovely, full of character. The Leather Bottle is in a nice quiet setting, the outdoor area is spacious and would be gorgeous in the summer. Inside the decor is modern and comfortable with two large dining areas and a small cosy bar area. We sat in the first dining area on the right as you go in the front door. First impression is the delicious smell of good food and the wood burning heater that was nice and warm on a chilly day. The menu is a good range of traditional pub fare (burgers, cottage pie, sausage and mash) and the more unusual (Roquefot, spinach and pear salad with raspberry dressing). We went for the fantastic value lunchtime deal of £8.95 for a starter and main from a selection of the menu, two of us had the spicy vegetable soup with two big chunks of fresh bread each to start (thick, fresh and not too spicy to scare the in-laws!) and two had potato skins which come with guacamole and salsa or bacon and sour cream (the bacon comes as freshly cooked rashers not some horrible diced up processed mixture). For our mains we had a burger and huge chunky chips (the burger unfortunately was very overcooked), cottage pie, gravy & veg (it looked lovely) and I had the cherry tomato cassoulet with haloumi which was absolutely gorgeous. The waiting staff are friendly and attentive enough without being annoying or intrusive. My only complaint was the drinks, I had a diet coke which was foul. It tasted really cheap and nasty like own brand supermarket coke.
