Amazing meal. My favorite at The Greenbrier. If you like a meat sauce- Get the BOLOGNESE!! Soooo good. Everything was great!!

I want to start out by saying our waiter Rusty is my boy. Plain and simple, cut and dried. Dinner choice on Friday night after a long drive in and no snack after a noon lunch. Italian restaurant, normal resort attire allowed, though other customers might be in jackets and ties. Anyway - nice place. Ordered a beverage and had table water, adding the cheese fondue for an appetizer. The fondue isn't the typical - it's a fried slice of Gruyère cheese with crostini and a side of sun dried tomatoes. Fine by me. I will say I immediately asked for more crostini when they give you three and the cheese is the size of regular slice of bread. The dish was really good. And the tomatoes gave it a perfect bite on top. I ordered the chicken parm, which if you've read any of my reviews on Italian places, is my main order any time it is available. I added a side Caesar salad and an order of meatballs. The measure of any Italian joint should be (1) their gravy and (2) their meatballs. They also have pizza here, so we decided to share a small pepperoni to try it. Hey, it was 7:30 and I hadn't eaten since 12. I'm a growing boy. The salad was perfect, and the chicken parm was good. I would have liked to have more gravy, especially on the pasta underneath it. Overall, had it not been for the side of meatballs - which had a lot of gravy, this would have been a dry dish. Great flavor though. The meatballs were good as well - had a veal composition to it which I enjoyed and the cheese herb garnish had the perfect kick to it. The pizza was ok. I'm not sure if it was light on sauce, the cheese was off or what - but even though it LOOKED great - the flavor was off. I will say the pepperoni was the best part. For dessert I got the pecan Italian wedding cake. Meh, I would rather have the normal lemon Italian cake but this was good. Overall - highly recommended. Add extra gravy on the parm dishes, try the meatballs, and leave the pizza for the kids.

If you ever visit the hills of West Virginia, try going to the Greenbriar Resort. There is an old classic hotel that has been around since 1913. There are many restaurants, shops and things to do. We went to the Forum Restaurant and bar inside the old hotel. We ordered pizza, calamari and other dishes. We enjoyed a lot of delicious drinks. The service was excellent, and the food was good. The atmosphere is a little bit noisy and not recommended for intimate couples.

$7 over microwaved (burnt ) broccoli

One of the worst meals I've ever had. Very expensive, terrible service (took over an hour to get 2 bowls of plain pasta and a salad), and the manager took zero responsibility for the poor food and service. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I cannot believe a place like The Greenbrier allows this low quality at their resort.

So impressed by this restaurant!! My family loved everything we ordered. I was obsessedddd with the seafood pasta. The meatballs are also a must!! Loved our server too :)

Eggplant caponata side. My spouse loved it.

This was our best meal while staying a few days at The Greenbrier. We would have given it 5 stars but for one thing-- we felt totally rushed through our meal by the server. I thought it was only because we didn't have cocktails/wine but seeing her three times visit a table near us and ask if they were ready to order--and they had not been there long... and they had cocktails and were contemplating wine... I know it wasn't just me. We aren't slow to order but even we needed to ask for more time to look at the menu! And just after our dessert arrived our check was delivered to the table like we were at a diner! And while they were busy they weren't swamped and desperate to flip tables. Annoying. Fortunately our courses arrived at a reasonable pace despite the server. The food was excellent and the restaurant has a great over the top decor just like the rest of the place. So, it was fun! We definitely enjoyed it even more than the steak place there which was ok but nothing special. We loved the calamari. Very fresh and crispy. My cannelloni with wild mushrooms was so good. It was lightly crisped by the oven and topped with some fresh ricotta. So good! And the blood orange and lemon gelato we had was excellent. Both flavors were super bright and a perfect end to the meal. And my spouse loved her dishes too.

Quite possibly the BEST fried calamari I've ever had

Without question the best dinner we had at the Greenbrier Resort during our last stay. From the moment we walked in the staff was warm and exceptional and truly took pride in ensuring that we knew we were staying at America's Resort. We started with the calamari which was OUTSTANDING. Who knew that in the hills of West Virginia we would find one of the best fried calamari dishes? The pizza was perfect. There isn't one thing we could think of changing. We're suckers for traditional pepperoni and truly believe that if you can master this classic then that's something. The pizza was a perfect ratio of crust, cheese, and pepperoni. And now for the grand finale--the tiramisu. Heaven. This dish fell out of heaven. First of all, we've never encountered a tiramisu this decadent and LARGE. It easily can feed four people but because it's vacation time, we easily obliged to finish the entire thing ourselves. Honestly, you could go to the Forum just for dessert and coffee. Just get the tiramisu so that you can see that this dish fell out of "Almost Heaven".

Sarah was a perfect waitress/bartender as we wanted just a quick bite and a glass of wine to hold us off until our late dinner. We were able to score seats at the bar! Our 12" pizza, the Special, was delicious with sausage, banana peppers, black olives and arugula. This casual dining spot seemed the perfect place for families with young children or groups.

Meatballs

Good Italian spot at The Greenbrier. Calamari is shareable for a table of 4. Pappardelle Bolognese was delicious and the highlight! Meatballs were a combo of beef and pork, very heavy with lots of flavor. Chicken Parm looked run of the mill. The wood fired pizzas smelled incredible but we did not order. We got the tiramisu and it is a bit different, would recommend as another shareable dessert.

Bread was amazing. Eggplant parm disappointing due to it being too salty. Pistachio gelato was just ok and needs nuts.

The Greenbrier - A Sunday afternoon in mid December

The Greenbrier

I want to preface this review by saying that we did not stay overnight in a room at The Greenbrier,…read morebut we did spend most of the day there, and I'm glad we did. When you pull in, you will be greeted by security at the front gate. We advised them we were there for the bunker tour and to do some shopping and they gave us a parking pass and directions to the best place to park. The resort is iconic, huge and pristine. We walked our dog around the grounds and up to the main building. Unfortunately, even though they say that the resort is dog friendly, there are some areas where dogs are not allowed. So I waited outside while my husband spoke to someone at the front desk about reserving a spot for the bunker tour. When he returned, I went inside while he stayed out front with our pup. When you walk in the decor hits you all at once and, if you are a Fallout fan like I am, everything just feels so familiar and comfortable. The bold, eccentric colors and patterns, the chandeliers and unique furniture... It's all there. I wandered through the shops which are upscale and fun to browse, even if you're just looking. I bought some giant macarons which were priced incredibly reasonably and really enjoyed them. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, and even without reservations, we were able to get tickets to the bunker tour. Be advised that they made it very clear to us that getting tickets "day of" is not the standard experience, so I do recommend reserving tickets if you want to do the tour. The vault tour itself is probably closer to four stars, but it's definitely a must. Knowing there was a fully built secret congressional bunker hidden underneath this glamorous resort for decades is wild. You walk through the old dorm rooms and meeting areas and see how it was all set up so long ago. You're not allowed to take any photographs, but I did read some basic information before coming. Still, reading about it and seeing it are two totally different things. It cost well over $100 for the two of us to do the tour and that is before tip so it definitely isn't cheap. It would have also been nice to have more seating, especially for things like watching the video, etc. My feet hurt a little after the tour from standing so long on the hard concrete floors of the bunker. The only reason that we did not end up spending the night is that we really wanted to be inside some of the main buildings and although they do offer dog friendly accommodations, they are only located within certain cottages kind of on the edges or outskirts of the property. There is also a $250 fee for dogs so we decided at the time that it would not be worth it for us, however, full disclosure: we regret that decision. We definitely should have spent the night. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me and if I ever get the chance to come back here I will definitely get a room and stay as long as I can, soaking up the ambiance and anemoia.

They should give you a golf cart if they put you we are in the cottages or the Valleyview estate…read more Twice are room key did not work and we had to goof it 15 minutes back to the main building to get a new one. Yes I know the decor is supposed to be iconic, but it's just so outdated. It's not really that fun. The view is something to look at though! Love the mountains. They've got some nice activities and the fitness area is pretty decent with weights and machines. Falconry was an interesting excursion but the pricing is kinda crazy. The restaurants were all pretty good on the quality side but service was painfully slow for most. The breakfast buffet though is epic!
