First, I should be fair, It was on Christmas Eve! They didn't seem prepared tho and the place was completely packed. The staff was overwhelmed and I think they ran out of everything. We ordered to go we had to wait an hour and a half to come pick it up and then waited at least another hour at the restaurant to get the food. Some people said they were waiting two hours. The flavor of the sauces were good, but each dish was missing most of their main components! Overall, there was barely any meat in the food. Mongolian beef tasted good, but there was like four pieces of beef in there, the Kung pow chicken was all peanuts and celery. The pork egg rolls were all cabbage and some had spicy mustard in them and others didn't. The crab Rangoon and orange chicken were good and the fried rice was ok. The chow mein was very sad it had literally two noodles in the whole thing. It was all bamboo shoots, onions, and celery. I think they just ran out of everything and we got the bottom of the barrels. Very disappointing, especially for Christmas Eve. The sauces showed potential but don't go there on a busy night and don't Order to go! The food is always fresh, hot and on time. We have been going here for as long as it has been open. They quickly reinvented their takeout window during COVID and were our life saver for restaurant food. Their crab ragoons and egg rolls are delicious. They have made special orders for us. Stopped here for some Chinese food with my brother and we both ordered some combination meals. I enjoyed the shrimp and broccoli and he loved his general Tso's chicken. Each combination plate comes with pork fried rice and a pork egg roll. Since I don't eat pork, they were able to give me white rice instead and for a small upcharge let me try the shrimp egg roll. The seating here is very limited but most people like to order take out versus dining in. They have awards posted on the back wall for being one of the best Chinese places in Grand Haven. Pretty good Chinese food with good value. Popularity makes pickups a bit hectic but there are 2 people working the counter so they are about as efficient as they can be. Grand Haven is actually lucky to have Fortune Cookie and New China City as both are good restaurants that do a good job of carry out business. read more

The crab ragoons cannot be missed! I also got the Chicken with Mixed Veggies and subbed the side of rice with lo mein! So delicious! The food here is perfectly fine, I don't have any complaints about what I've had in that regard. The biggest issue I have with them is they've consistently screwed up my order. Despite having them repeating it back, using the letter/number system, and not customizing anything it's just never right. While it might not seem like a major deal for others for our family it is. My wife has a peanut allergy and we both eat a plant based diet. It makes me nervous to be eating something from somewhere that doesn't get it right so much. I want to like this place so very bad because I do think the food is good -- but the experience of ordering here has just been awful. I can't even being with this review. Holy cow their stuff is very good and I usually don't eat Chinese noodle as I don't like them. When me and a friend ordered some of this I was kind blowed with how good the restaurant was. Beef Chow Mein / Chop Suey is what me and my friend has had. It was big so we splited it evenly. As far as West Michigan chinese food goes, this place was pretty good. Service was great, staff was very friendly and prompt. The steamed dumplings were very very tasty! The Kung Pao chicken had pieces of breaded dough in addition to breaded chicken! Even the fried rice needed heavy soy sauce to add flavor. Rose is always welcoming and super nice to our kids, helping our son with "kids" chop sticks and spoiling him with Almond cookies. This place is amazing! It's super clean. The staff is friendly, the food is hot and ready when you get there to pick it up. The prices are fairly reasonable and you get a TON of food. In town for a baseball tourney and tried Fortune Cookie because of the good reviews. I always get the same thing at Chinese restaurants - Boneless Almond Chicken. It was probably the best I've ever had!! Not the gravy type sauce either but soooo good! My husband got the gluten free Mongolian Beef and it was excellent as well. The crab cheese Rangoon was the best my husband has ever had - he cheated on the gf. I've gotten the orange chicken and the General Tsao chicken - both delicious! I recommend getting the combination plate - you get TONS of food and at a great price. Overall, the food is good. However because I was told their food is peanut oil free, I will tell other allergy-sufferers AVOID THE EGG ROLLS. They are NOT peanut free. Because the woman I spoke to on the phone lied to me, I will never again patronize here. At least Dragon Express across the highway was honest and told me straight up their egg rolls are cooked in peanut oil. I am a Grand Haven native but currently live in Monterey, California. I was recently home for the Coast Guard festival and over the weekend, my family and I were on our way downtown to head to the festivities when I started feeling quite ill. I stopped into The Fortune Cookie, explained my situation and asked if I could use their restroom. The staff were VERY kind and didn't ask any questions. In addition to this positive experience, my parents have eaten at The Fortune Cookie before and only had great reviews.
