First off the service is not that great. I ordered 4 specials with crab Rangoon for two and egg rolls for two of the specials. He gave me the specials and 2 orders of each of the crab Rangoon and egg roll. Which ended up being nearly $50. When I was planning on $35. When I told him it was wrong he said I had to pay for it. Even though it was wrong. What happened to the customer is always right. Then when we got home the rice is crunchy and not cooked. My garlic chicken is all dry gristle and over cooked with old oil. The shrimp meal had a few pieces of shrimp and the sauce was clumpy and gross, the only thing that saved that was the vegetables. The Mongolian beef had so many onions and tiny dry chewy pieces of meat. The gravy tastes like old lard. Don't even get me started on my burnt egg rolls and the chewy disgusting crab rangoons. This food is so bad I don't even want to give it to my dog. I threw away my entire meal. This was after all of us tried this to make sure I was not crazy. It sucks when you have to work for three hours to pay for a meal this bad. We will not be back that is for sure. Save your money and try any place but here. read more

Completely disgusting! 2 orders of Rangoons were literally spoiled cream cheese on the inside. Neither the white rice, nor the beef fried rice was even remotely done, thankfully they forgot to put one of the fried rice that was paid for in the bag! Dark meat on General Tso's chicken, unedible pork in BEEF chop suey, the grease was so old the egg rolls tasted horrible and could not be eaten. Very good Chinese food. The Moo Goo Gai Pan is to die for, I get this often. I also enjoy the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, and am very surprised to have a place make something of this quality on Apple Ave. Always get a bucket of Hot and Sour Soup yummy. The Beef and Broccoli is an amazing entree. If you want something light get the Steamed Veggie Dumplings. These two dishes are also very good: Gong Bao Chicken This is a famous Sichuan-style specialty, popular with both Chinese and foreigners. The major ingredients are diced chicken, dried chili, and fried peanuts. Peking Roasted Duck Peking duck is a famous dish from Beijing, enjoying world fame, and considered as one of China's national dishes. read more

Chinese is my second favorite type of food, second only to pizza. I had my first egg roll in the mid ' 70s and I've been hooked ever since! Because I was introduced to Chinese cuisine with an egg roll, I'll start my review of China Star there, with their egg rolls. Unfortunately, I ordered only one egg roll...a pork egg roll...to accompany my take-out dinner; I say 'unfortunately' because it was the BEST egg roll I have ever tasted and I wanted MORE. It was so good that I didn't drench it with sweet-&-sour/duck sauce and/or soy sauce, as I tend to do. My egg roll was one of the larger ones I've ever had. The wrap had just enough crunch on the outside and just enough tenderness on the inside. It had enough pork in it that not only could I see it, I could taste it in every bite. It didn't have, nor did it need, a slew of different veggies. It was packed with flavor! I told my husband that it was so good, and so big, I could make a meal out of 2 or 3 egg rolls alone (but I won't do that because I can't NOT have one of their delicious entrées)! IF there were anything even slightly negative I could say about my egg roll, it would only be that there was a tad bit too much shredded cabbage. However, I happen to love cabbage, so that's not much of a negative. Now, on to the entrée. I'm not a fan of dark meat chicken, and I LOVE Chinese entrées in which the chicken is deep fried, but I've found that most restaurants use dark meat in the majority of their meals containing deep fried chicken pieces. China Star is no exception to that 'rule', yet they were willing to accommodate my preference by using deep fried white meat chicken in my sesame chicken; they, also, added waterchestnuts for me (there was a small up-charge of $1 for each alteration, which I was more than willing to pay). When I placed my order (over the phone) I was asked if I wanted a large or small order of sesame chicken. Thinking 'small' would be a typical pint-size Chinese carry-out container and 'large' a quart-size container, I opted for the large. Imagine my surprise when I saw the 10" x 10" Styrofoam take-out box which was as FULL as it could be - I kid you not, there was enough for me to have AT LEAST 3 meals, if not 4 (including the accompanying container of white rice)! The sesame chicken was just how I'd hoped it would be...large, beautiful pieces of white meat chicken, lightly breaded and fried, mixed with plenty of waterchestnuts in a sweet brown sauce, all topped with lucious sesame seeds. I will admit, the sauce was a touch sweeter than I would have preferred but that's my personal taste, it's not anything China Star did wrong. I would DEFINITELY order it again but, since they accommodated my other requests so well, perhaps I'll ask them to give it a little 'kick' next time. For a tiny "mom and pop" restaurant, China Star can definitely hold their own against the "big guys". The selection, quality, quantity, taste, prices...I give them an A+ all around! read more

Went there for lunch. Kind of pricey compared to other local fare. Chicken fried rice comes with plentiful chunks of fried chicken. Like KFC fried. Don't expect anything outside of what come with it, like bean sprouts. An order of egg rolls come with just one. Sauces are given out at a minimal. Would go back, only if I was in the area and didn't have a craving for anything else and too lazy to go somewhere else. Overall, food is average. read more

Got out of work super late and didn't feel like cooking. I called to place my togo order and the guy on the phone was very rushed after taking my order he said "ready in 10mins" then just hung up. It just felt very rude. Then I get home open up my food and there was only 1 tiny little box of rice for a quart of chicken & broccoli and a pint of pepper steak!!! Ok, where do I begin. Went there for dinner tonight with 3 other people. The guy behind the counter was already getting upset. whoever is preparing the orders to go, they are bringing them up one by one & food was left behind and never given to the customer. I placed our order and it was read back to us with no problems, paid and sat down with my party. Instead of chicken wings, he brings us fried wontons, I told him that was wrong, walks away and comes back and asks us to pay HIM $3.OO for something we didn't want. He grabs the plates with an attitude. Our food was delivered in a hasty manner. Now for the disgusting parts: One of the workers decides to pas gas and loudly. I guess they forgot we were there, one of them starts smoking, we heard sneezing and burping. then one goes to turn to come around the corner and saw us sitting there in amazement. we will not be returning. read more

It had been years since I had ordered from here but did yesterday. I ordered a large szchewen chicken, beef and broccoli, general tso chicken, pork fried rice and an egg roll for my husband, myself, and 2 young kids $39 and some change. At first I was yikes $40 but when I got home and realize what I had I could of invited 3-4 more people over. The large is a strofoam container huge portion. The food was good, we will order again. But this was by far the spiciest general tso I've ever had in my life yes most places note this as a spicy dish but holy smokes! read more

If you like surprises, you might like this place. More than once they surprised us with something other than what we ordered. This last faux paux was the last straw. When we called to tell them we would be back to pick up the right order, they insisted we had ordered something we had not. They finally agreed to prepare the right order, but then called me back to tell me it would cost $4 more and hung up on me. Nope, I won't be back there.
