I have been eating at Egg Roll Express for well over 20 years. Tonight I ordered chicken fried rice like I have for the last 20 years, and there was no chicken in my chicken fried rice. When I called on the phone, they were nothing but rude and told me that there was chicken in there. I brought it back to them, and they still said it's just really small pieces of chicken. Well, they went from pieces you could see last week to really, really (almost invisible) pieces of chicken. I was told if I wanted bigger pieces of chicken, I had to ask for it. Not once did they apologize. I get that mistakes happen. But they stuck by their story. Time to find a new Chinese takeout place. read more

Service was very quick on a Friday night (less than 15 minutes from when I called in my order). Although I was a little disappointed in the food when I did get it. The fried rice had no egg or veggies and tasted old. The chicken did not have any flavor. The one saving grace was the egg roll, probably one of the best I have ate at a Chinese restaurant. read more

This was one of my go-to for spring rolls , egg rolls & quick meal. This restaurant has changed hands a few times and is not the same. Food was served with more rice than meats & veggies. 3parts rice 1 part entree. Spring rolls didn't seem like the homemade version they used to sell but something you would buy in the freezer section. Pure mush & very chewy, not crispy. Also very oily taste. I dont like hot foods put into Styrofoam containers either as they tend to melt into the food.​ Staff was friendly & polite. Prices fair. Due to poor quality of food, I won't be stopping by any time soon. read more

Had dinner from Egg Roll Express tonight after not going there for months. I immediately assumed (correctly) that it was under new ownership. We ordered the beef lo mein to go. Good thing because there is very little room to eat in at the few tables they have. It was alright. The beef in the dish could use more flavor, seasoning, or something. However the noodles and vegetables where cooked just right and had good flavor. The location is convenient being right off of Chicago Drive near the business highway from Holland. So for that reason (and the staff was friendly) I may try them again. read more

I don't think this place gets as much credit as it deserves. You can tell all staff is family and super kind and welcoming at that. Egg Roll Express has been in this little take out location for years and they do it right! Best Chinese take out in town and I'm not typically a big fan of Chinese food. Their name is not a lie, they will have your order ready in about 5 minutes and it's made fresh. The other part of the name is the best around-Egg Rolls are the bomb!!! read more

This is one of the best Chinese places I've had. First off, you can order online which is such a plus for me. Then we had a big order so they gave us free soup which was so good! The lo main was not dry at all!! (I have that problem with a lot of places). And the chicken fried rice was different, but soooo good! Overall I would recommend. read more

Ordered sweet sour pork, meat was room temp, no flavor, and coating was not done near the meat, soft and soggy. Spring roll? What can I say, watery not even warm. Fried rice? Way too oily. I have eaten here for years, it is under new ownership by a young couple from Chicago. So you should not read any reviews except for 2016; older reviews are from the last establishment which was good, but the new owners are even better! They are very friendly and there is much to be pleased with in the two dishes I have ordered thus far. Their chicken fried rice is a vast improvement! Large pieces of tender white chicken and very flavorful, not too oily or salty. I tried their Wanton soup and it was full of "huge" wantons and large shrimp! Very tasty and the broth was superb! Two thumbs up for the new team and I can't wait to sample some more great Chinese cuisine. The "eat-in" or "take-out" is located conveniently in a small strip mall with good access and parking (112th St. and Chicago Drive). The establishment is small with only a few tables, but the take out is fast with friendly service! PS: Ask their fourth grade little girl, who helps sometimes, what she wants to be when she grows up, and you won't even be able to spell it! Hint: something to do with the study of bones! read more

The customer is not always right at this restaurant. I had heard about this place for years but just tried it for the first time today. I got orange chicken and beef/broccoli combo plate with low mien noodles. Chicken was OK but beef/broccoli had way too much soy sauce and noodles were salty and overcooked. I ate the chicken but decided to tell them that the other food was not good. The woman at the counter said that they serve it all the time, and maybe I'm just not used to it yet because it was my first time eating there. Then she tells the cook about it and he comes out of the kitchen to talk to me. He was immediately defensive. When I explained to him it didn't taste good, he started raising his voice, saying people do that all the time, eat just what they like and then bring back the rest. He tried giving me my money back but I politely said I didn't want my money back, just wanted something to replace it instead, like rice and some veggies (not even meat). I also made sure he knew I wasn't trying to rip him off or steal from him. I tried being as nice as I could, I really did. He opened the register, threw $6 at me and said there was nothing he could do and stomped back into the kitchen. I was in shock. I haven't been treated like that in a restaurant ever. I'm not one to be rude or usually even speak up when something isn't right but since it was 2/3 of my lunch I decided it was worth saying something to them.
