Incredible venue, worth the visit. Beautiful as you approach the house with wonderful grounds,…read moreincluding the garden where they grow much of their own produce. Parts of the meal were fantastic, a few were just good, but the combination with the atmosphere and good service earned five stars. My favorite part of the meal was the eggs from the snacks section (I forgot the name, but their equivalent of scotch eggs). The porchetta was also excellent, with a lot of crackling. Don't miss the onion straws, they were addictive. I was disappointed in the mozzarella with beetroot, way too much beetroot that overpowered the dish. Overall, though, a great experience and i plan to return with my family.

My dinner was exquisite - I ate on the later side after one or two pre-dinner drinks and ample time to review the menu. I wasn't as fond of the Saddleback Crackling pig skin with applesauce - this was too crispy for my liking. The first few bites I was afraid to crack a tooth. The slow cooked Lamb belly was out of this world. Service was very good given how busy the restaurant was. Best of all I spent the night in a charming room and enjoyed a lovely breakfast the next morning. Such a wonderful, charming placed to escape in the New Forest.

What a gem! We are sad we found this at the end of our vacation. It's a beautiful pub and gardens,…read morestaff was all very pleasant and helpful and the food was excellent. We arrived mid-day on a Friday so it was not busy and we had our choice of table. After walking around the wildlife park we were chilled so sat in the bar directly in front of the fire. The quiet murmur of the other patrons, some music playing softly from the restaurant, a couple of drinks and warmth of the fire - I almost couldn't get my husband to leave. He's from the UK but has been living in the states for 30 years and this is exactly what he has missed. We had a nice chat with one of the managers, unfortunately I didn't get his name, and he showed us the horses grazing in the pasture out back. We both had the steak and ale pie on special, it was beautifully prepared and tasty. We were checked on several times to make sure we had everything we needed. This will be at the top of our list to return to on our next visit.

Friendly staff, good food, good range of beers etc. We visited for Sunday lunch. There is a huge carvery with all the trimmings as well as the usual menu. Pretty good value (for the New Forest). As well as plenty of indoor seating there's a large beer garden and a well kept (and fenced) play area for the kiddies. Space for a functions marquee too! Car parking is shared with the station next door (free).

We planned a short getaway to celebrate a friends 75th birthday and we've enjoyed Youngs pubs in…read moreother locations. We had our new puppy in tow and Youngs offer a reasonable dog companion rate. The king bedded room we were allocated was at the front of the pub as many rooms and a large part of the the pub were being refurbished. The establishment had taken time to phone me as I had requested a 'quiet room' and were worried that a street facing room might be too noisy...I still decided to travel but found that the room did indeed suffer from traffic noise from around 07.00. The external noise issue was not helped by the newly refitted room having window fasteners missing which meant you could not actually seal the window. The room was comfortable and had a great bed and lovely linen. However the newly refitted bathroom had a floor mounted mixer tap that had a) been mounted very badly and was b) already unscrewed from the floor and listing at a 40 degree angle. How the unit had not yet spung a leak was beyond me. Our friends room was slightly smaller but suffered from poor lighting for reading despite having about six lights. The bedrooms we felt also had a degree of poor housekeeping as we found a half drunk bottle of prosecco in our fridge and litter next to the bed in the friends room. The staff we encountered were very friendly and a real fire was lit in the bar which was lovely. So we were disappointed with our stay, which was a shame. Would we return? Yes probably, but make sure we had a newly refurbished rear facing room....
