Love this place

2 meals for £8. How good is that? But because I was on my own, I had a pulled pork burger with chips and a pint for just over £8. The Font used to be a 17th century chapel, so there are extra seating all along upstairs overlooking the downstairs bar with high ceilings and glasswork all kept intact. They have promotions on food and drink all-year round. I get all nostalgic whenever I am here as it always reminds me of my husband when we started dating.

Beautiful lights inside the font

I was truly enthralled by the prices, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful interior decor. I am guessing this is an old church which makes me like it even more. The bathrooms were clean, which I thought I'd mention and there is so much space and beautiful lights to be enjoyed with cheap delicious pitchers. I'd love to come back any day of the week.

Very good pub, the pint for 2,30£. I think is very cheap comparing with other pubs. I would recommend to other people.

Interesting bar with a nice layout. Drinks aren't too dear, shame about the bad house music though. Good as a place to start a night out.

Based in an old church with ampitheatre-like seating makes for a great atmosphere.

This has been a slightly troubled venue over the last few years, going through several…read moretransmogrifications to try and find its niche. This small pub/bar has a prominent corner location, just off Seven Dials. The Rat & Trumpet is the latest attempt. It has the feel of a stripped-back bar, with bare wooden floors and furniture, and plenty of standing room, all dominated by a large TV screen showing sports. A bonus is that they have started serving serving real ales, which seem reasonably well-kept. The staff are friendly and reasonably efficient, but it still seems to draw an odd mix of punters; at lunchtimes and some evenings it's quite peaceful, and not a bad place for a pint (though it's not really cosy or atmospheric), but other evenings it's packed with a noisy, slightly raucous crowd. (What's on TV is clearly a determinant, but not easy to predict). Although it's not really my kind of venue, I hope it succeeds as the new owners have clearly gone to a lot of effort, and it needs some stability.

Near enough that if I was a bouncy ball you could…read morethrow me out of one of the top windows of my house and with only once bounce (if all the windows were open) I would get to the bar and probably knock lots of drinks over. Well when I say lots that would be an exaggeration as to be honest this place doesn't usually get many people in. I think this could well be to do with the fact that its a bit of a dark old, no thrills watering hole which shows football and not what the yummy mummies and the upper market residents of the seven dials usually gravitate toward. But. I quite like it. Have a couple of pints here, maybe even indulge in a traditional game of billiards and then go on somewhere else because simply the lack of people sadly means that their isn't really much of an atmosphere to be honest. One notable thing though about this place is that all week around a local thai and middle eastern restaurant have a deal where their food can be eaten and ordered in the Pub. So if having Lamb Tagine and delicate vegetable Tabouleh with a pint of lager are your must have's when watching football. Here is THE place for you. If not though, truthfully their are better places to have a drink.

Its got a kind atmosphere, and it uses its slender design to its benefit,…read moreso that the bar runs around half way down, encouraging a semi dystopia sci-fi kind of vibe thats not at all alienating. As is always the case, you're rewarded for drinking ale, which is a little cheaper than lager pints. But whatever you choose, you won't be buying to get trashed. Its not that kind of place... Its good to go for a social, slow drink or two, or for a relaxed chill out. The blend of contemporary styles, from the bar stools and cushioned bench along the wall, to the mirror balls and coloured lights blends very very pleasingly with older details, like wooden panelling, shelves of books and a traditional bar layout. Small things make it feel special too, such as bringing round candles as it starts to get dark... I know its only a minor detail, but it made sitting in Medusa Bar fell special and unique... I like it a lot here... especially seeing as they play albums through from start to finish, instead of chopping and changing the whole time.

The Medusa Bar is another of the Preston Street locales, and as such, is sandwiched between various…read morerestaurants and other bars. Medusa is a step up from most of the other bars in the area, being a bit less low-class than some of the other drinking places in the area, and generally cheaper and more pleasant to relax in. If you've just been for dinner and need a place to sit down afterwards, Medusa is a great alternative to heading too far back into town, especially if the weather's a bit naff. Medusa is hard to define, as it mixes much of the pub atmosphere with more of a wine-bar-chill-out seating arrangement and the like. It generally works very well: the prices are cheap, and the atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed. This is a great place to perch on a cushion and let the world spin by; not exactly a rarity in Brighton, but certainly in this area. If you're looking for a good chill-out place in the area, Medusa may be a great place for you to sit: it is just worth remembering that the crowd that like this area will likely make this place less relaxed later into the evening.

There was quite a few people in there at lunch time when I popped in for a pint which is always a good sign with a big pub. The bar staff were really friendly and I quite like the sign above the bar saying 'we will top up your pint'. The first thing I look for is which lagers and bitters a pub has hooked up and in pubs like this its usually just Stella, Kronenburg and if you're lucky, John Smiths but I was really pleased to see they had Harveys on tap. The menu was absolutely huge and really REALLY cheap. Everything from meatball subs to 10oz ribeye steaks were on there for more than half the price of most pubs which tells me its probably not organically sourced from local farms but sourced by a lorry in a cash and carry outlet. It did smell really good though and when you pay £3 for a sandwhich, you can't really go wrong!

It also has a beer garden which is ok. For some people not having sky television in a pub is a big let down but it does stop people from just watching the television. This makes it quite a sociable pub to go to The prices are rock bottom for drinks which is always a bonus whilst the food is good value for money. The area around is good and with the dog stadium a 10 minute walk away you could easily start here then go there after. The feel is good and local residents are pretty good. Early afternoon the 'punters' are the guys that come in from work and just want a quiet drink so if you want it to be more lively then go early evening. However, when it's quiet it doesn't feel empty so in my personal opinion I do not mind being in there at that time. I have given it 3 stars because its not the best pub ever but would be worth 4 stars if it had the odd night with something different going on.
