Amazing Brighton pub. Major league bar, numerous seating with inside upper deck looking down on main level. We walked up to discover a world-class soccer/football celebration. There Brits truly understand how to celebrate one of their favorite sports teams, Liverpool FC. Never experienced anything like the hugging, singing, dancing and DRINKING, then more hugging, singing, dancing and DRINKING. . The fans didn't know us and mattered not, they fully embraced us. The 'Font' is an unusual place. Situated in the heart of the historic lanes, in an area full of expensive jewelry shops and antique booksellers, this is bigger and brasher than most of its surrounding competitors. It is a converted church, hence the name, and its highlight is the upper galleried floor. The place is round in shape, so from the front of the upstairs, you can look over the railing down onto the madness below. Partly for this reason, it is a popular place to watch football - get here early if you're here to watch a game. There is no pretension or trendiness about this place- it is a bold, busy pub to get drunk in and eat some cheap food. However, there is nothing wrong with that, and it can be surprisingly relaxing in the quieter daytimes. read more

I've been to the Font a few times, hearing good things about cheap drinks and food. Having eaten here, I would say it is similar to Wetherspoons, albeit worse. The food is very cheap, although it never arrives as the description promised, normally missing a number of things. In terms of drinking, it isn't actually particularly cheap, although they do have some very good special offers like a bottle of Rose for £5. The Font is a bit sleasy and chavvy, not to be rude, but it is. They do show a lot of sport, broadcasting it on a number of TV's as well as a 30ft projector screen that spans two floors. Of all the countries I've been (30+) and all the bars in those countries... Font is by far my favorite. I heard so many stories of what it used to be - an old theatre? A church? Whatever it was, it's spectacular now. The decor is amazing, drinks and specials are always fun, and the food is pretty delicious (even more so after the tastebuds get a little tipsy!). Font is truly something else. A must-do/see in Brighton. read more

The Font and Firkin is a place that holds both bitter and fond memories for me. It was the place in which I cried when watching Arsenal lose the Champions league final in 2006. It was also the place where I celebrated my best friend's previous birthday. As such you might get an idea of what kind of a place this is but it's probably just me blabbing. Anyway, this is the kind of place that'll satisfy everyone but also won't particularly impress anyone. Its main feature is the collection of screens, including a massive one above the bar, making it the perfect place to catch the football, as you're always going to be in sight of at least one screen. They serve standard pub food at average prices. As there are plenty of places doing a better job of this I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but simultaneously I wouldn't purposefully avoid it. With occasional live music and free wireless Internet access it's an average pub by Brighton's standards, however, it does tend to attract a West Street kind of crowd i.e. short skirts, fake tan and tiaras. read more

2 meals for £8. How good is that? But because I was on my own, I had a pulled pork burger with chips and a pint for just over £8. The Font used to be a 17th century chapel, so there are extra seating all along upstairs overlooking the downstairs bar with high ceilings and glasswork all kept intact. They have promotions on food and drink all-year round. I get all nostalgic whenever I am here as it always reminds me of my husband when we started dating. read more

To be fair, I didn't stay long, so please take my review with a pinch of salt! I was looking for a good pub to watch the football so did a quick search on Yelp and the Font and Firkin seemed to come out on top. So many people mentioned the numerous TVs and ginormous drop-down screen, I finally thought I'd found a solution to my hunt for a decent Brighton pub in which to watch the footie. However, despite what all the other Yelpers claim, I was decidedly let down - NO FOOTBALL!! May this was due to me wanting to watch a champions league game that was being shown on terrestrial, but most other pubs that are renowned for showing sport would still show this game. Instead, the numerous screens seemed to be showing sky sports news, not even the other game that was on Sky that night, not quite what I was after! To be honest, I was a little relieved as the pub had a distinct Weatherspoon's feel about it which really didn't appeal. It felt a little grubby and chavvy, and generally not the sort of place I like to hang out. I didn't even stay for a drink. I don't think I will be back in a hurry... read more

This was my first visit to this pub and I was surprised how big it was inside. There are two floors with a balcony overlooking the bar which creates so many places to hang out. I was there for a friends birthday and the staff really looked after us. We had buffet style food which had all the snacks you would expect and it was really tasty. The biggest surprise of the night was the price of the drinks. Bottles of prosecco were on offer all night for just £9.99 and it was really good. The staff were super friendly and the pub had a great atmosphere, even if the music did get a little loud as the night went on. read more

This is one of the best places to watch a football game as it attracts a nice enough crowd and is a really interesting place to hang out in as it used to be a church. We always go straight up to the second level and have a few drinks as there's usually a bit more space. With the World cup coming up, this place will no doubt be absolutely rammed so it'll be worth getting there a bit early. I've never eaten here but the food looks fine when it comes out and is pretty reasonably priced. read more

Tonight was the third time venturing into this place. We originally planned to go to the king and queen, but the place was jampacked with football crazy fans. We also didn't want to wait in the line for forever in the cold, so we headed over to the font, my second favorite place. Why do i like this place? It's pretty. The mood is set by purple christmas-y lights and hiphop music. The chairs are comfy, and it's a good place to chat over a pint of beer. Guinness, in my case. And this place was the place I tried my first pint of guinness. Yum. They say the drinks are cheap, but i find the price of the beers not too different from other bars. Maybe the shots? I took off one star because they dont carry Kroenenbourg. Boo. But I shall get my dose when i venture out tomorrow night yet again. whoooo. read more

I was truly enthralled by the prices, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful interior decor. I am guessing this is an old church which makes me like it even more. The bathrooms were clean, which I thought I'd mention and there is so much space and beautiful lights to be enjoyed with cheap delicious pitchers. The font is a charming bar in a little street near the south laines of Brighton. It is surprisingly spacious inside, it has cosy lighting, elegant décor and an upstairs area with a balcony so you can peer downstairs and see what's going on at the bar! The drinks are always cheap, they have a selection of cocktails and there are plenty of seats, tables and sofas to sit on. It's usually pretty busy during the week and attracts students because of its generous prices. It's usually pretty busy at the weekends as well, attracting a slightly different crowd. I've never eaten here but they do have a menu selling pub lunch sort of food as well as all day breakfasts with appealing prices so I am tempted to come here for breakfast or lunch sometime and check it out. I know friends that have been during the afternoon as they often have sports games playing on their large wide-screen TV. With a laid back and lively atmosphere, The Font is a great way to start the night, or a fantastic place to go if you just want a few quiet drinks with some friends. read more

If you're heading here for lunch, I wouldn't bother. It's cheap but service is slow and food is a bit rubbish. If it's a good night you are after, then that's much more likely to happen. The layout of this place is really cool with balconies upstairs and the bar set in the centre on the ground floor. My best night here was on a New Year's Eve a few years ago. We paid £3 to get in and had a great evening. Considering the amount many places charge on New Year's Eve I thought that was a bargain. The music is dancey, but gets you in the mood to move your feet. It's situated quite centrally in the South Lanes, perfect to visit on your way to a club. read more

If you like your Yates and Wetherspoon-style bars cheap and just about bearable then I'd recommend checking out The Font. Food and drink prices are the same as your usual dirt-cheap chain pubs, but the place just has a little bit more character. The building is a converted church all high ceilings, dark wood and upper-level galleries with a pretty cool view down to the bar area. This makes the layout absolutely perfect for watching sport as the bar (or more specifically the enormous screen above the bar) is the focal point of the pub, with all the seating areas in a circle around it. However, despite the fact that it's a fairly popular place to go and watch football and rugby, I always get the sense that it's quite impersonal and lacking in any real atmosphere. Probably because it's so big. The food, even though at two meals for £5 you aren't really justified in complaining, is a bit hit 'n' miss. Whereas I had a suitably enormous jacket potato packed with baked beans and cheese, my boyfriend's lasagne was essentially a microwave meal. I never deliberately set out to go here, but usually end up popping in purely because it's a sensible place to go on a night out or to pop into for lunch if all your mates are skint. read more

I near enough go to this bar all the time before a good night out in brighton. The atmosphere is lively and prices are reasonable, so it attracts alot of students. It's located next to a few good restaurants and nightclubs so it won't take long to move onto the next venue. read more

The music was a mixture of the capital fm playlist and old classics - No Diggedy, Fatman Scoop - but sometimes that's exactly what you need. We had a fantastic night at the Font. It's a small place shaped like a semi circle with a round bar and tables overlooking from the balcony above. It seemed on a Friday night like the whole ground floor became a dancefloor after about 11.30, but that's how I like it. Drinks were cheap for a Londoner. From memory (which I admit is slightly foggy after the night we had) two double Bombay sapphires and tonic was £8 - I felt like I was back up north. I'm not often out in Brighton but I love the place and am probably biased towards venues here. The Font isn't special but it draws a cheerful, up-for-it crowd, so as long as you don't mind it closing at 1am it's great for a dance. read more

This is a nice, relaxed pub, set over two floors, which serves tasty, reasonably priced food, and an ok selection of beers, wines and spirits. The atmosphere is chilled and the seating comfortable. TVs dot the interior, generally tuned to Sky Sports, Spy Sports News or a Music Channel, all of which show football games whenever they are broadcast at this venue. A large widescreen tv also sits at the front of 'The Font', which is best viewed on the second floor. The bar is very laid back and the people who frequent there are around middle aged if you're looking for a place with a specific age group. There isn't a dance floor and the bar can get overcrowded as per usual for any bar on a Friday night but nonetheless very enjoyable. read more

Despite the crappy house music this pub has an awesome layout. It used to be a church so the interior is very strange but entertaining to be in. Perfect place to stop when shopping in the south lanes or a great place to start a night out. I would definitely recommend it if you're visiting Brighton. read more

For some reason, I really want to dislike this pub, but I don't. The food is a bit naff to be honest (always seems a bit mass-produced and thrown in a microwave), and the clientel seem a bit towny, but I still enjoy coming here. Great for watching sport, with screens up everywhere and a massice central screen. The venue itself is a real gem, and seems to be an old church maybe? Drinks are of a generic chain type, but I find this an enjoyable and comfortable place to be. Quiet drink it aint though. read more

I quite like this pub. Its bang in the middle of town but the prices are reasonable. The interior is amazing with high ceiling and really cool furniture. If you just wanna go for some pre club drinks then this is the place to go, I would however strongly advise against ordering food. Big and bashy, the Font and Firkin is a real mixed bag. There are nights where it is fairly quiet - despite the dangerous allure of drinks offers - and there are nights (Friday and Saturday) where you'll be queuing at the bar for over twenty-minutes. The crowd is also a mixture. Students can be lured in by the competitive prices, but the Font often caters for those in their mid-twenties who want to unwind after a hard week of work, whilst keeping an eye on the pennies. The combination of cheap drinks and a desire to unwind can sometimes take a turn for the worse creating an air of macho negativity, but if you're in a large group, you can generally avoid any nonsense and have a pretty good time here. read more

Unique pub situated in the Laines. Based in an old church with ampitheatre-like seating makes for a great atmosphere. Lots of comfy chairs and numerous screens showing sport with occasional live bands. Decent drink selection; food is average - ok if on an all-dayer. If you're in Brighton visiting, it is definitely worth stopping here for at least a drink. read more
