Buckle up buttercup, The Flower Fields will surround you with an endless sea of color in every direction! We actually scheduled a weekend in Carlsbad just to come here, along with plans to sample the local cuisine, of course. I think The Flower Fields is worth a pilgrimage for anyone who appreciates beauty and wants to wow their family, friends, and fans on Facebook and Instagram. LOCATION You cannot miss it. Its located next to Carlsbad Premium Outlet and a short drive from Legoland. PARKING It can be stressful, but they do have a large, dirt parking lot. Just be patient and you'll have someone pull out. TICKETS About $18/pp and you can pay an extra $5/pp for a tractor ride to take you along the perimeter of the fields. 20-min round trip, and you have the option to hop on/hop off. FOOD They have onsite dessert places, snacks, and maybe one food truck. You won't go hungry or thirsty here, but its good to come here after lunch so you can get plenty of steps in. THE FLOWERS All of the flowers are the same type (buttercups), but man the diversity in colors is staggering. I think the best pictures are from standing on the bottom and facing up the hills. Regarding photo props, there are plenty of benches, several giant chairs, and a rusty tractor you can sit in. Plan to spend 2-3 hours here. Definitely wear sunscreen and bring a hat! read more

Wow! This place is gorgeous and so are all the ladies who come here to take model-esque photos with their spring/summer dresses... this includes my wife. With so many beautiful flowers, you are sure to capture the picture perfect shot. Be courteous to others and offer to help take a picture for them as others will do the same for you. I don't recommend wearing open toed shoes unless you don't mind getting dirty feet. Maybe bring an extra pair to get around and one for pictutes. With the cool ocean breeze, this place is ideal to relax and spend a day and a pretty penny. The entrance fee has increased but is still an exceptional value. The wagon ride is worth it too if you haven't been. There are boutique shops and food vendors as well as live music all in one place! Just be sure to bring sunblock, a hat and sunglasses! Also, respect the borders that are set up for a reason - to protect the natural beauty of the flowers. If you're allergic to pollen, bring meds. read more

View From Armada Drive Walkway The Flower Fields in Carlsbad are a truly beautiful site in season. You can view these fields for free from the walkway on Armada Drive, above the fields, or for $18 you can actually visit the fields, take a hayride or walk through the vibrant and colorful flowers, visit their greenhouses, etc. The Flower Fields website says their "fields are blazing with colorful roses, orchids, sweet pea blossoms". We chose the former, and were impressed with the impressive March blossoms, and the ocean of flowers below us. read more

My bf bought us tickets to the flower fields and it was such a pleasant and beautiful place to attend! I believe tickets were around $23 w/ service tax which was pretty worth it. I never seen so many gorgeous fully bloomed flowers in one place. There was also a small little zoo section of birds to see, pond with fishies, lots of photo opps!, and a lil picnic area for drinks, icecream, and shakes! There was even a pizza stand and the employees were quick to wipe down tables before seating people. They definitely did a great job with planning everything out. The only complaint I would have is their ticket system. Their website tells you to purchase tix ahead of time and allows you to purchase within a specific time slot so we purchased ours from 2:30 -3:00 pm. Upon arrival during this time period, we could stay till closing which was 6pm. I think the time slots to purchase tickets were meant to limit the capacity of people arriving at the same time but it doesn't really help with limiting capacity inside since you can stay however long once you arrive. This led to super long lines to get photos with the flower field as you have to get in line for each row of flowers you wanted to take pics with. They also had signs posted for "10 minutes max" when taking photos per row but people were definitely going over that time limit. I noticed that we weren't allowed to go into the fields too which was a shocker to me since I always thought we could butt I had a great time regardless! They had a blueberry picking field too but it was closed temporarily as they ran out of blueberries. The place was overall super nice and lively. Bf bought a pineapple dole whip for $7 and it was such a small portion but refreshingly tropical nonetheless. They also have iced cold bottled water for only $2! The flower fields was like a mini amusement park with a huge picnic chair prop, giant icecream stand, tractor rides, accessories and olive oil shop, and lots of smiles and sunshine. I def recommend bringing your own snacks and water to keep hydrated! It was such a sunny and beautiful day so make sure to wear sunscreen and bring your hats and cameras to enjoy these pretty flowers! read more

Absolutely the best place to visit while in San Diego. Carlsbad Flower Fields are easy to spot as you travel along the San Diego freeway. The flowers have been blooming in the hills above the Pacific ocean for over fifty years. Just like the tulip fields in Holland and the cherry blossoms in Japan, this flower field is a must visit for flower enthusiasts. It opens to visitors from March to May. It has receiving visitors for more than 40 years. With international travel restrictions due to the pandemic, we decided It's time for us to re-discover North San Diego's world-renowned spring experience for the blooming of 50-acres of ranunculus flowers at The Flower Fields in Carlsbad! To visit the flower field, we first had to order our tickets in advance and booked our time slot. The ranch only allows limited number of people in at a giving time slot. So it's advisable to book the tickets at least two days in advance. Weather is a bit hot during this time of the year. So dress light and bring plenty of water. Although there a few shops inside serving food and drinks as well as ice cream, lines tend to be long. In addition, Antique Tractor-Wagon rides are available, transporting visitors around the planted fields, stopping off to let folks walk around and enjoy the scenery, and picking them back up are returning then to the start point. It's perfect for families with young children and elderly. For the convenience of taking pictures, the ranch had setup photo platforms extending into the flower field. Lines are long on these spots. There are also a few spots with green platforms and stands that's ideal for taking selfie. One of my favorite such spot is in front of the fountain with a perfect flower field as it's backdrop. For an epic photo of the flower field with the wind mill and the Pacific Ocean in the background, it's surprising that you can take such photo on Amanda Dr. that's north east of the flower field without an entrance fee. Beautiful! It was like walking into a dream. The field was at full bloom and it was just beautiful. We came on a Wednesday at 11am and it wasn't to crowded. There were lots of photo opportunity's with tons of flowers everywhere. Rows and rows of them! I liked that there were benches where you can just sit and talk and take in the view. It was very relaxing. Quick tip, make sure you wear sunblock. There's no shade. read more

Been years since I last visited and the cost nearly doubled. You have to purchase your tickets online and you get charged an additional $3.00 for doing so. We visited on Tuesday a bit before noon. It wasn't crowded and we were greeted with a smile and some info. We were offered to ride a tractor around the 53 acres but it would cost $8 on top of the $26 entry fee. We opted to walk having to make way for the tractors to pass by us. Flowers were blooming and it's a great place to have a talk with a good friend. Otherwise it can be a very short visit. There were some food vendors but none appealed to us. The #SweetPeaMaze was entertaining but you can grow weary trying to find the exit. A kind greeter gave us a hint and said to look up which did help us find our way out Since the blooming season is for a short time, I guess I can see the need for the increased entry fee. Posted as of 3/17/19. Admission is ridiculous. They want $18 per person to see FLOWERS! Talk about supply and demand ethics. The flowers are really nice, especially after our huge rain storms. They bloom in sequence and are all very uninform. (Great for influencer pictures) There's a hint to getting around the admission price. If you drive east on Palomar Airport Dr. then North on Armada Dr. there's an elevated viewpoint that gives you a great view of the flowers + the beach. There's some dirt / trees right before but it's still very nice. 3 stars because although the flowers are nice, the field in general is fairly small. read more

This is a beautiful spot and well worth checking out. I made sure the flowers had bloomed before we drove out. We bought the tickets ahead of time, but I did find the pricing to be a bit high. We took our toddler and he had a blast. Lots of great photo ops too! read more

I've been wanting to come here for a while but always a bit hesitant because of the ticket cost. We were in town for mother's day so we decided to pop in the day prior. Adult tickets cost $23 and kids 3-10 yo cost $12 + service fees. There's a lot of free parking and an Armstrong garden center on site. No line when I went, just show QR code. We got the 10am ticket so it wasn't very crowded. By the time we left at 11:30am, you can see there's a lot more people in the fields. Check the weather before you go because when we went it was overcast and 65 degrees so very comfortable weather for picture taking. The fields are huge! So many different sections all color coordinated and absolutely beautiful. They even have sections carved out with bench seating for you to take pictures. You can walk around or pay extra for a wagon ride. There are vendors selling jewelry and snacks, a playground for younger kids, bird aviaries & artist garden, sweet pea maze, orchid greenhouse, poinsettia display, butterfly garden and illusion garden. Plenty to do so you can easily stay there for 2 hours. Highly recommend to go at least once! read more

Went on 03/19/21. I would say there is a portion of the field that is fully bloomed. If you're there for photos then you should be fine! I used google maps to get there but it took me to the back where you could see the whole field. Just keep going straight and you will see the free parking! I got a ticket for an 11:30am - 12pm spot. I recommend getting an earlier ticket since parking could be a nightmare. There is also no way you could finish walking around in 30 minutes. I went on a Friday since I wasn't sure how packed it was going to be. I'm glad I went on a weekday since the lines to get photo ops were non-existent/short. They have a small shop by the exit. I got a small plant for $7. They have portable potties but they also have restrooms! Definitely bring sunscreen and water since it could get pretty hot. Going first time, I thought I was entering Disneyland how it looked with the colors of the flowers slope and the nightmare parking and exits. Insanely crowded on a 930 am 60 degree Late April. For what it is, nice. Im not a flower person like my wife but can appreciate. Nevertheless, good for pictures but very crowded. Took about 1.5 hours to thoroughly navigate ( can take 30 minutes if you zoom through) but stopped for pics. Exit is a nightmare and had a hard time finding and cars block your ass waiting for sports to open. Cost about $23 bucks a person and of course inside bunch of overpriced popcorn ($9 bucks) drinks and a few wack-ass fast food popups, no thanks. Charge $5.00 for kids mining through sand in prepacked tub resulting in some colorful nonsense rocks. Get there EARLY!!! read more

If you love flowers this is a great place to visit. It is only open for a few months during the spring but it is worth coming here. It is $18 per person, it is a little expensive but you get some beautiful pictures and you can spend the whole day here if you wanted to. You should definitely wear comfortable shoes because you have to do a lot of walking. And even though it is tempting to go inside with the flowers to get a better picture you should stay in the designated areas only. If you step on the flowers you are killing them and others won't get to enjoy them. The employees also walk around to make sure no one goes inside where the flowers are. What a great way to spend a beautiful sunny San Diego Day ! This flower fields is close by the beach so some of of your glamour shots can have a little ocean view. It's also positioned in a way where you can take pictures and you won't have 100 different strangers walking around in the back. Not only do you get to take amazing photos for the gram without destroying the flowers, there's also a wagon ride that goes around the fields, a maze, fun activities that change on the weekends, and little gardens you can explore. The fields are big but it's pretty much the same so we usually spend maybe 2- maybe 3 hours tops. When you're done, there's an outlet mall right in front of the fields so you can get a bite to eat and walk around some more! Parking can get crazy. Most people park around the outlet and walk to the fields. A day at the flower fields can't be complete without the DOLE WHIP! They got pineapple and strawberry dole whip if you're not into that, they also got strawberry sundaes, shortcakes, and dipped strawberries. If you're looking to spend a nice day walking around on the sun and enjoying beautiful views, this would be a great idea! read more

Great view of different color flowers. Not necessarily worth $18 ($17 with AAA discount), especially since it seems like the price has increased over the years. I suggest parking in the back, past the lot for the other shops in the area. Parking is free and plentiful. We didn't take the extra paid tractor ride, as it was easy enough to walk the perimeter and we wanted to stop wherever and whenever we wanted. Never been to this field and since my mom had been just cooped up in the house, took her down there for a drive. Flower field is big but way too many folks today. I certainly felt uneasy at certain spots with the crowd. Traffic going down there Friday afternoon was also jam packed - I suggest you get the earliest time spot for the tickets and get there early to avoid that traffic & people. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon to be out and about but am I gonna visit them again? That's a big ???? On a weekday, early morning would be my pick for visiting this place. I had no idea this place was so popular. We had always wanted to visit but we're usually in Carlsbad the wrong time of year. We made the mistake of going on a Sunday around noon and the parking lot was insane. There were people everywhere and no parking spots so we had to drive around a bit and pretty much park as far away as you can way in the dirt. On the plus side, you don't have to pay for parking...yay! After the grueling walk up to the ticket stand we had to wait in a small line. Prices were more than what they said online but we were able to get veterans discounts and children are cheaper. They have the kids a little paper with a maze on it and places to get stamps from 8 different locations with flags. The flower fields weren't quite what I had imagined. The field was beautiful and bursting with brilliant colors. I really enjoyed that big field. We also enjoyed getting lost in the sweet pea maze. The flowers smelled soo good and it took us about 15 minutes to find our way out. I probably wouldn't do the tractor ride again. The line was too long and you can see more just walking around on your own. There was entertainment of performers and musicians. There was also a pizza food truck, ice cream, popcorn and more. If you're in the mood for a little shopping, there's a good deal of that too. Bathroom situation was a nightmare for the women's room. There's lots of porta potties and I would recommend that. read more

Really gorgeous, Instagram-heaven location! I can't speak to how things are "typically" (read: outside of a pandemic) as this was my one and only visit there last month. Folks who have been there in pre-Covid years say that there is usually live music and all kinds of other festivities. We didn't see any of that, but it was a still a pleasant outing and the folks who staff it were friendly. Free parking! I have to follow my "Yelp rule" of not issuing five stars until I've experienced a place at least twice and unless it is in a location I'm not likely to ever return to. Colorful, charming, picturesque...these are but a few of the words to describe The Flower Fields, where we spent our Sunday wandering, relaxing, and taking photographs. There are acres and acres of stunning flowers of different shapes and colors. You can get lost wandering up and down the different aisles of blooms. There is a wagon that costs $6 per person that you can take to 2 different stops. The benefit is that you can get on and off at each of the stops whenever you like so you don't have to traipse in the sun getting heat stroke. If you are on social media, this place offers plenty of opportunities for Instagram-worthy photos. There is the giant chair in the middle of the fields along with a tractor for kids and couples to hop on and pose. The attached photographs don't do the IRL experience justice. There is a play area for children, and different refreshments, such as The Strawberry Shack which pays tribute to all things strawberry. There's the Strawberry Shake, the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae, chocolate-dipped strawberries...you get the idea. Parking is one drawback, as there is very little space in the lot, and even overflow parking does not offer much relief. read more

This is not is trampling on the flowers, do not worry they have clever little paths so you can in and take Instagram worthy photos all over the place. They have props in the flowers such as benches, tractors so find those spots and get your photo album made by Shutterfly or something, these come out AMAZING!!!!! These make excellent family photos and I highly recommend for the ladies to wear a dress and bonnet or something really cute for your photos. A white summer sundress pops out in the sea of yellow and pink flowers but also goes well with the white flowers we took at least 100 photos each, everyone taking different angles and shots with 4 of us. So breathtaking and relaxing. Make sure to pick a sunny day and have a Dole whip too! And the tram is nice for those who don't want to or can't walk that far, it takes maybe an hour to walk to the end or longer if you take photos like we do... so 2 hours walk for us to the end and back and we didn't walk through all the paths even... I liked the salmon pink flowers but these looked like they were the same kind of flowers just in different colors, they have a season where they have blueberries and sunflowers but we went early in the season so they weren't open yet and if you do go earlier in the season not all the flowers are in bloom and they close around Mother's Day I think so maybe try to go around mid to end of April maybe they will be more blooms... but I am not sure... maybe they harvest as they go. These flowers are not just to show visitors they do harvest and ship them out I believe, after they close the season for viewing there will be no flowers just dirt until the next season. There is an Armstrong nursery adjacent to the field where you can purchase plants flowers and there were some cute planters with little cactus or succulents, it's fun to walk through too. The last time I came here was circa 2010...prior to the advent of Instagram and cell phone cameras. Can you believe there was such a time in history? That first visit was really nice. Selfies didn't exist at that time. People came to enjoy nature and the colorful rows of ranunculus flowers. It was a simpler time for sure. My second visit was three days ago. I went on a weekday to avoid crowds. Was surprised that it was still quite crowded, particularly past the entrance, by the gardens with the archways and caged birds, and at the snack area. I avoided those sections because they were just too congested for my comfort. Going out in the fields was much better, particularly at the far end, where the crowds were considerably thinner, if nonexistent. There were less selfie-takers which was heavenly. Of course this place is going to be a mecca for selfies, I knew that going in. But it's still annoying as heck. The fields are indeed spectacular and because ranunculus is one of my favorite flowers, I still had an enjoyable time. I walked around the entire perimeter, admiring all the colors and rows of gorgeous blooming flowers. After about an hour, I was ready to get in the car and do the 1.5 hour drive back to LA. I did so with a bouquet of yellow ranunculus on the passenger seat, purchased at the outdoor gift shop close to the exit. Getting outdoors has been critical during the pandemic. So this excursion did help clear my head. Given I purchased a 20 dollar online ticket just for myself, it was affordable. However, bringing a whole family could get rather expensive, unless you're willing to pay for the opportunity to take some pretty photos. It's definitely a cute getaway, but if I wait another ten or so years to return, I'll be ok. read more

This place is gorgeous. It is rows, rows, and rows of beautiful flowers arranged so that you can easily take pictures with them without tramping the flowers. There are many cut outs that makes it look like you are in the flowers but not tramping them but also so you can take your mask off while people are 15+ feet away in line. The Flower Fields in Carlsbad is a super beautiful sight to behold with a few caveats. +Of course, the main attraction here was beautiful. Come in and you'll immediately see the varied flower fields in all their beauty. There are lots of flowers all over so you can get a lot of good shots which is great and the fields put out a few photo opportunities so you don't have to step into the flowers. Overall, it's a sight worth seeing at least once. +A random aside but appreciate the vendors at the fields. We had to buy a sun hat and the vendor we encountered had hats ranging from $10-$20 and was even kind enough to exchange it when we found out it was too big. Staff was overall kind and there were some random side activities there too for the kids. +/- Tickets prices are about $18 per person for adults and cheaper for the young ones. They do close at 6PM as a heads-up if you need to be mindful of your time. Note that your ticket doesn't include the tractor ride which is another $2-$5 depending on your age. +/- Parking was busy but actually not too bad to find. There were spots open all over. -For the staff members roaming around the fields in the golf carts, the diesel smell is super strong, especially when the winds pick up and lingers. It kills the experience and the staff members roam around quite a bit. Please use another kind of vehicle or update the golf carts. -Not exactly a complete negative as this isn't in the complete control of the management but not all the flowers were blooming when we stopped by. Luckily this was just mostly on the far fields but do note that your experience may vary. -Also be mindful that your 'for the gram' experience may also vary. There are a bunch of people walking around and for the fields closest to the entrance, you'll sometimes be waiting a bit for that perfect shot. Also, know the tape is there to dissuade people from stepping on the flowers but if you're going for your Instagram photoshoots, do be aware you'll have to do some creative photo takes. read more

Went on a Monday morning end of March. Early birds, so we were able to enjoy for a bit without the crowds. Many Ranunculus blooms and still many more to go. Peak bloom is end of March thru entire April. Sunflower field and blueberries not ready yet. Would recommend a visit and may go again if the Sunflowers end up blooming (staff said all the rain has impacted the Sunflowers schedule but definitely not the Ranunculus blooms). Monday had no entertainment, simply the beautiful blooms and all the other flower experiences to enjoy. I'll happily take less crowds over the weekends when there are more demos, activities, music, etc. read more

One of my favorite things to do in San Diego! The flowers fields are so beautiful and is a must-do/must-visit while in San Diego. The Ranunculus flowers that take over the Carlsbad Flower fields is something truly special. The Ranunculus flowers bloom for approximately six to eight weeks each year - from early March through early May (usually ending around Mother's Day). There are other things to see like the Poinsettia garden and the Rose garden. There are also "kids days" (check the calendar) where kids can play and learn about flowers, with face painters, bubble blowers, and much more. THE BEST thing to do is take the tractor ride ($5) around the flowers fields, which has an audio recording explaining about the flower fields and the history of what you're looking at. Also, don't forget to buy a basket of fresh strawberries before you leave! *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** My only gripe is how expensive it is now. This year it'll cost you $18 admission plus $5 tractor rides?! Personally I think that's way too much. I mean let's be real, you are looking at flowers. There's minimal interactive experiences or entertainment... just a simple walk around a flower field. And the display is only open for 2 months of the year. We enjoy coming every year and maybe it'd be worth the money if it was our first time. With a price like that, it's a hard sell to get people to return once they've done it once. Really disappointed the prices keeping going up (as you can probably tell). It cost me over $100 to bring my family this year... to look at flowers. read more

A hidden gem in San Diego! Newley opened on March 1st. Here you will see the seemingly endless Fields of flowers that are grown according to season. It reminds me of the lavender fields in Provence, France. I went there with my daughter yesterday and all of the March fields are in full bloom. You have the poppies and tons of roses etc. There's also a blueberry enclosed patch so that you can pick your own. For five dollars for a carton you get to load it up and eat as you pick! The berries aren't quite ripe yet so you may want to wait till the end of the month. All in all a glorious? spectacular afternoon spent doing something unusual. Great spot to see flowers, a lot of the things advertised were closed. No blueberry picking, limited tractor stops, and finally limited space for photo opportunities. They do enforce the Covid 19 precautions which was good but they have a bigger nursery for sales of flowers than a variety of fun gifts at gift shop. read more
