I went to another flower shop in Cary (Cary Florist) today and while I realize it's the week of Valentine's I was looking for an arrangement for a friend who'd had surgery. This is a very long overdue review. I've been meaning to get to this, but when I started there was a problem loading my photos. Then summer passed, and then covid turned our world into a 12-month long episode of Twilight Zone, and now, here we are in spring 2021. This should have been done a long time ago. I'll come back to edit this review, because it's one thing to tell you what outstanding florists are at The Flower Cupboard, but a whole other thing to show you. So first, I'll tell you about the lovely people and describe their flowers, and, I hope within a week, be able figure out which device has the photos on it and post them. Im not really a roses kind of lady. Of course, they're beautiful, they're iconic, and some even smell so good, you'd want to go to sleep with them at your side. But for me, almost all roses ultimately disappoint me. I've said about roses before, "Please don't. They just break my heart when they wither and wilt and die and smell so rancid. Pretty, yes, for a day or two." I have tried all the tired old suggestions--cutting the stems daily at a 45-degree angle, rinsing them under warm water, changing the water daily with fresh warm water, thus additive, that additive, and so on and so forth. Forget it. They just break m heart and gross me out. Until two years ago, there had only been one source of roses that did not wither and flop out on me. on the west coast of Florida, in a tiny little hamlet, was an older lady named Beulah who filled her whole yard with roses. They were big, like Pom-poms, smelled divine, and no matter what I did or did not do with them, they took their time opening up. And they lasted. Beulah charged $5 a bunch for her roses, and she asked that you just drop off the vase next time you drove by. What a connection. Beulah has been gone for a long time now, and I no longer drive through that little settlement on the Nature Coast of Florida. People still sent roses to me for special occasions, but they weren't like Beulah's roses, and they just, you know, made me feel disappointed, like someone had meant to thrill me with a dozen (or more) roses, but it was always the same thing. Death and despair. Ha--well, maybe not quite so grim, but regardless, florists roses just don't thrill me. I'd rather have daisies or, better yet, tulips, or lilies. Then two years ago, someone sent me two dozen roses from the Flower Cupboard. My first thought, after being wowed by the owner, was that these were like Beulah's roses, but with longer stems, not quite wild-looking like hers, but definitely very special like Beulah's roses. This first delivery from The Flower Cupboard was multi colored, and the colors were striking--so many different colors. The vase as gorgeous too (in fact, I used it this past holiday season for some creative work of my own). Even the vase was extraordinary, thick glass, a quality vase worthy of keeping for good. These roses lasted a good while too, about a week before any started to show signs of stress. They were thrilling--like roses are supposed to be. No wires hiding them up, because they didn't need any; they stood up just fine on their own. Then two more times, I received gifts of roses from The Flower Cupboatd--and the while they were different types and styles of arrangements, each of these also did the same thing. They took their time opening up. They smelled like heaven, and were such a joy to see every day. The first one was not a fluke--The Flower Cupboard simply has the best roses I've ever seen (with all due respect and affection for Beulah). Now, add to these stunning displays of roses, the most personalized delivery from one of the nicest, warmest business people I've ever met. if I recall correct, the owner's name is John, and he says he likes to hand the flowers to you directly, rather than leaving them on your door step. He has such enthusiasm for what he is doing, and he made the whole experience remarkable. If you've got someone who needs some roses, this is where I'd tell you personally--like if you were my friend--get your roses from The Flower Cupboard. You will thoroughly thrill your recipient. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. And I'm still not a rose lady--unless they're from The Flower Cupboard. I cannot recommend them any higher, I really can't. read more
