The Float Institute is a wonderful family-owned business in Sterling Heights, a quiet oasis only minutes from the busy Hall Road shopping area. Besides floating the institute also offers yoga classes. I was curious about floating for some time and was very happy to experience four floating sessions here that I bought through Groupon last year. It was a good way to get away from the real world for 1-2 hours. The Float Institute is owned by two brothers, Jeff and Scott, who have put in a lot of effort in making the interior design feel welcoming and soothing. Each room is bathed in blue light and has a shower, towels, lotion, and moldable earplugs. The sensory deprivation tank offers music that you can turn on or off anytime during your one-hour session. After your session, you can relax for as long as you want in a lounge room with comfortable couches and an assortment of teas to choose from and filtered water. I really enjoyed this as much as the floating session. Although I prefer massage and traditional meditation to floating, I'm glad I tried it and believe it can work for a lot of people. I had been curious about floating for a long time but never knew anyone that did it. Finally, I decided to just go ahead and book it. I bought a package before I left I enjoyed it so much! I have been sharing my experience with people and one thing I keep mentioning is I liked this better than a massage. Don't get me wrong, I love a good massage, but I can never fully relax. I'm in a room with a person I don't know, and they are touching me. Even when I get manicures and pedicures, or adjustments at the chiropractor, I am always told to relax my muscles and I can't. In the float, I literally felt my whole body release. I was finally able to relax my muscles and then during the float I could relax!!! About 20 min in, I had adjusted my body a certain way and I felt everything align and relax. It was great! Staff was helpful and very thorough on explaining everything to me. The facility was clean and very nice. In the bath there are 2 buttons to control the music and lights. I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to go into full sensory deprivation, but shortly after I started floating, I gave it a shot and it was great! I didn't feel closed in or anything.
