Their beer was heavily focussed on usual rubbish lagers, a great selection of local beers from Okells and some exciting craft beers from the UK and further afield. I ordered the fish and chips and, when I was finished eating, I specifically asked for the remainder of my food to be taken away and boxed up so I could bring it home. After we received and paid our bill, I sat waiting for my leftovers to be returned. They never came. We eventually asked our server, Matthew, where my food was, and he told me it had been thrown away because I had supposedly told him to throw it away. I absolutely did not. I had specifically asked for it to be boxed up. Mistakes happen, and although I was understandably frustrated that food I had paid for was thrown away, what happened next is what completely changed my opinion of the experience. When I expressed my frustration, Matthew told me to "get over myself." I was genuinely stunned. There is a huge difference between making an honest mistake and speaking disrespectfully to a paying customer after that mistake is brought to your attention. An apology or even a simple attempt to make the situation right would have gone a long way. Instead, I was spoken to dismissively and made to feel as though I was the problem for questioning why my food had been thrown away. We are visiting from the United States, and I was excited to experience local places while here. Unfortunately, this interaction left an awful impression. I hope the owner or management sees this review because regardless of the misunderstanding over the food, telling a customer to "get over yourself" is completely inappropriate and unacceptable customer service. The Dirty Duck may be a beautiful and popular place, but our experience with the service was incredibly disappointing.

Would have liked a little more gravy for the Yorkshire, but otherwise everything was great and as I would have hoped. I normally don't put hearsay in my reviews but several people also ordered the burger, and it looked fantastic. My son, recently moved from the US, said it was the best he has had on the island. Finally, it is a very sunny and bright restaurant and excellent for kids. I recommend it and look forward to going back.
