While in Newport my wife and I were looking for a bar that had a Trivia night. Fastnet came up on our search so we decided to try it. I will say that the trivia was pretty decent. There were a few loud mouths yelling out answers but overall OK. That is the only reason I gave 1 star. This place is a total zero star experience. The absolute rudest, dismissive, obnoxious, mean , angry (I could go on) bartenders I have ever experienced. After waiting 10 minutes to even be acknowledged, my wife and I ordered one beer each. Apparently they didn't have the beer I ordered. The bartender dropped my wife's beer off mumbled something about being out of the beer I requested. Of course he did not stick around to ask me if I wanted a replacement. Eventually, I got his attention and ordered the exact beer my wife had. I didn't want to go through another instance of him walking away. We were considering food, however, no menus were offered to anyone. Probably a good thing. When I ordered a second beer, the bartender, a tall, reddish haired bearded dude said no. I was pretty much in shock. However, about five minutes later, he graciously put one in front of me. I observed the bartenders all night. I believe they get fired if they smile or be friendly to the customers. Not once did either of these bone heads even mildly interact with the customers. Death row inmates on the way to the Electric chair have a more pleasant demeanor than these bozos. If you are looking for a warm friendly place with cozy bartender's, great drinks and good food DO NOT COME HERE. It amazes me that this place stays open. Countless better options all around it.

Very loud, but very fun! Bartenders can make one hell of an Irish car bomb! Came in by accident stayed for far too long!

Random afternoon. Stopped in for a pint with my wife. Place was empty. Bar tender was cold and unwelcoming. After a bit he came over and took our order without a greeting by giving us a head nod. Got our drinks but offered nothing else. We had planned on getting something to eat but guess not. He disappeared, we apparently were unwanted and unwelcome visitors. Finally because we wanted to leave and he was missing in action my wife gently tapped on the bar. Out he comes to ask if we want something else. Just the check. 17 for a pint and a seltzer. I left a 20 but this was over tipping, he deserved less. Not sure how you build new customer bases if you treat new guests like this. One and done.

Deliciously made fish and chips! Lightly fried with a light coating and thick cut fries! Sat in the pub for a drink, and it took a bit to get served even though they weren't too busy, but to be expected for a weekday night. They don't have water but they sell water bottles. Certain nights have live music!

True Irish pub, complete with Tayto and appropriately grumpy bar-man (who did warm up after a while). Great Spot!

What company do they use for trivia?

It's not a company I don't think, it's just an independent person they hire to host trivia. He's great, though, and the questions are just the right amount of challenging! I would definitely recommend the Fastnet trivia for a fun midweek night out!…

Just the right amount of salt and pepper! Delicious. My hubby got the chicken and waffles. That gravy, oh my goodness! Bomb. Atmosphere is eclectic but fun. Service is TOP TIER!!!! The he place was packed and I see why. Also, I have an allergy to cinnamon. Going anywhere in October, I can be subjected to cinnamon. Our server, Melanie...amazing (ask for her), she made sure to tell the chef about my allergy. Wanted to order a dessert, but she asked the chef and he advised I could not due to possibility of having cinnamon. Very gracious server and chef!

We had reservations for 6PM but arrived shortly after 5PM. They were gracious enough to accommodate us immediately. Our server was friendly & attentive but very inexperienced. My friend ordered Salmon Piccata & she had no idea what that was... she thought it was served with scallops & pasta! We had to explain that Piccata was a sauce with capers; again, she didn't know what capers were. Fortunately, the kitchen understood the order & my friend received the correct dish. Unfortunately, the ends of the salmon were dry & inedible. However, she did enjoy most of the fish & the sides (mashed & veg), and there was enough to bring home. She also had a cider cocktail which, with the sugared rim, was a little too sweet. She would have liked a bit more cider, too. I had the patty melt with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was large & very good. I'm not a huge fan of thick-cut sweet potato fries; if I had known I probably would have opted for another side, as there's a $3 upcharge. The pickle was fantastic! I also had a glass of J. Lohr Cab, which was a good sized pour for $11. Prices were reasonable. Parking is always an issue in Newport. There is metered street parking & paid lots. Beware, parking is diligently monitored & tickets are $60!

Seafood is on the menu and we started with two stuffies or stuff quahogs and a clam cakes appetizers. Probably too much fried out of the gate but when in Rome... The clam cakes were individual and easier for sharing and were my fav between the two. Stuffie was for old times sake. Had the lobster roll, one of three on a New England vacation. Came with fries. Tasty of course but I think I prefer my bun toasted and the lobster meat in larger pieces rather than chopped up as is the case here. Best was the company catching up with old friends. Less experienced wait staff but it is the summer and these kids need jobs. We were all patient and super upbeat kids working hard to do a good job.

Also, it was a Wednesday, and Tickets had a "wings for a dollar" deal on Wednesdays. Neither of us wanted a big meal - just a couple of appetizers - so we headed over there. We were told to seat ourselves, which we did. Someone brought us menus, left, and never returned. We sat there for 20 minutes, when I finally went to the bar and asked if we could order. Someone (his name was Mason, and he was very nice) came by and took our orders. We ordered chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, and we each ordered a drink. I had wine, so nothing can really go wrong there. My partner ordered a margarita. He said it was so watered down, he wouldn't recognize it as a margarita at all. He ordered a second drink (rum & coke, I think), and said the same thing. Watery. He said they were the worst drinks he'd ever gotten. The wings were good. The mozzarella sticks were shaped more like mozzarella burgers, but they were tasty with marinara sauce on the side. If we were to return to Newport, we'd try somewhere else. The service and drinks were disappointing.

We stopped by Wharf Fishhouse & Tiki Bar specifically to try the tiki drinks. My husband is really…read moreinto tiki cocktails and has spent a lot of time reading about and making drinks from Smuggler's Cove, Don the Beachcomber, and the classic tiki tradition, so we were excited to see what Newport's tiki bar was doing. Unfortunately, the drinks were a pretty big disappointment. We asked for an original/classic Mai Tai, rather than the restaurant's interpretation or a modern spin. What we received was essentially just a glass of rum. There was very little citrus or almond/orgeat character coming through. A classic Mai Tai should have a much more balanced combination of rum, citrus, and orgeat, and the drink we received didn't come close. I also asked if they could make a Saturn. They said they could, although they couldn't make it frozen--which isn't actually an issue since a classic Saturn doesn't need to be frozen. The drink tasted fine, but it didn't really taste like a Saturn. The service itself was nice, and the staff did try to accommodate our requests, so this isn't a complaint about the people working there. That said, if a bar can't confidently execute a classic cocktail, I'd honestly rather they say so and recommend something from their menu than serve something that doesn't resemble the drink being requested. That's ultimately what left us disappointed. We weren't expecting every drink to be historically perfect, and there's absolutely room for creative tiki riffs. But if you're going to call yourself a Tiki Bar, being able to execute at least some of the foundational classics seems pretty important. The waterfront location is fun, and if you're simply looking for a fruity tropical cocktail while wandering around Newport, this might be your spot. But for someone genuinely interested in tiki cocktails, this felt more like a tourist-friendly waterfront bar serving tropical drinks than an authentic tiki bar with a serious cocktail program.

It had giant comfy couches, tall ceilings, and beautiful, upscale decor that made this feel like a glamorous experience. Our server was extremely personable and knowledgeable, what a delight! He answered our tons of questions and had great wine recommendations for my friend. We got conflicting information from the hostess vs the server on whether food was available and what time they closed, which seemed a little odd. Ultimately I was able to order off the abbreviated trivia food menu, and really enjoyed the Winter Vegetable Flatbread with sweet potato, Swiss chard, kale, and gruyere - very unique recipe with lots of distinct flavors that came together beautifully! The crust was soft and I dipped it in some beer cheese that came with my friend's pretzel (the cheese seemed a little watery to me but had a distinct beer flavor, so bonus points for actually being a beer cheese!) I couldn't tell if a couple of my beers got rearranged on my flight board, so wasn't sure which I liked and didn't. One was smokier than I would have thought it would be but had a sweet taste. The Boch was a bit bitter for my taste. I really enjoyed the White Stout most of all to my surprise - normally a heavier beer is just okay and not the favorite of my taste buds, but this one was so unique in style and crispiness. The beers all seemed very European leaning and authentic in flavor, although a bit on the heavier / less sweet side (fitting for the colder weather but not my personal favorite). The trivia host seemed to have a lot of regulars and the volume wasn't overbearing, I'll have to check it out again and actually play next time. I really loved the cozy upper brewery area - check it out before the renovations finish downstairs LOL!
