The only reason it is good or better than many other donut places is that they make them fresh on the spot. So the donut you get is piping hot. When it is hot, it is soft and easy to bite through. It is the doughy type with a bit of bite to it. Dusted with cinnamon sugar it does go very well with a cup of coffee to help wash it down. If you are expecting the likes of Krispy Kreme, you will be disappointed as it is not the light as air type or even glazed to give you the sugar rush. It is a good donut but not worth the wait (I waited 20 minutes or so). I would suggest to order only if there is no line or if it is only 1-3 people who had ordered and just waiting for the donuts. I will not wait more than 10 minutes for this. But if you are a tourist in Berry, then maybe this is a "must-do" thing just to say you have tried it. read more

Doh! you'd be nuts not to stop here on your way through Berry! (There is a 90% chance I wanted to write this review JUST to use that horrible pun.) The other 10% is because these donuts were little cushions of cinnamon sugar heaven in my mouth hole. I like a place where you know exactly what you are going to get just from the title. 'The Famous Berry Donut Van' - succint right? They're a van that pretty much smashes the cinnamon donut, they're in Berry and welp, they're famous for the earlier facts. So there you go. Nailed it. While we did wait a good 20 minutes for these fine goods (apparently the famous part means a lot of people go there) they were WELL worth the wait - hot, fresh, cinamon sugary greatness. There is acually an urban myth about these donuts - They are so covited that are used as pillows when a baby gnome is born. (which makes sense since their little hats would totally fit through the hole) Yup, you heard it here first. BUT that's not all about The Famous Berry Donut fan. Because I'm a rebel (see all other reviews and also my highschool report card) I also ordered a hotdog. Yup. That's right, a hot dog and you know what? It was delicious. So sure, go and have a mythological donut, but man (or gnomes) cannot live on donuts alone, so go forth and ALSO get yourself a hot dog from The Famous Berry Donut van, because, well because you can - and that's reason enough for me. read more

So, last time I passed by this shop, and was (according to friends) doofus for not getting doughnuts despite the big sign saying that they were famous for doughnuts. :) So this time, on my way to Batemans Bay, I focussed on doughnuts. I bought 6 doughnuts. My method of working out whether they were good is, how many of these doughnuts can I eat in one sitting? The first three were delicious. The fourth was bordering on "gosh I'm starting to fill up", and the last two were "come on mate, you can do it!", but given their generous size, I think putting down four without wanting to stop is a good sign that they are good! I'm driving down from Sydney again tomorrow and am looking forward to it! read more

Just give your order, pay, and then wait in anticipation for doughnutty goodness. There's only one flavour, and not an ounce of pink icing or jam to be seen. But who cares? I've feasted on the glorious fried rings of NYC, inhaled sugary halos in the City of Angels and gorged myself on the finest dough offerings from the bay area. I've been on a long journey to find the best holy fried sweets in my own backyard & there I was, driving through Berry in the Southern Highlands of NSW and I see a SIGN - The Famous Berry Donut Van! Overwhelming excitement hits me, the fear of loss that only a child feels when the ice cream van doesn't stop sets in, I pull over immediately, grab my change and rush to the site of what could finally be the ONE! The ONE (fried) ring to rule them all!! I slam 8 bucks down for half a dozen of their finest, fresh, piping hot cinnamon donuts. A few anxious filled minutes later they call my number & hand me a white paper bag of hot, delicious smelling donuts. I dive in, grimace through the scolding heat and grab the first donut. I bring it up to my salivating mouth, open wide and take my first bite...I think to myself, this must be it! Theeeennnn, reality slaps me like a bitch! Nope, Niet, Non, Nein, Nai!...these taste exactly like the fresh cinnamon donuts from Donut King (where they are 6 for $5 by the way) & even leave the same 'chalky' residue in your mouth after your 3rd. Utter dissapointment, tricked by a 'famous' sign...should've known better than to believe ones own hyperbole. Nowhere near famous (except if in a town with no other donuts around...), nowhere near the tasty fried morsels I've devoured on my travels. Oh well, I've waited this long, I guess my journey continues... read more

Exactly like a Woolworths donut warmed up. It's a doughy donut, same size as Woolworths donuts, with cinnamon and sugar coating. Nothing special. I could get 6 for $2 at Woolworths on reduced to clear, instead of $1.80 for 1 at the Berry Donut Van! read more

There is nothing that I don't like about this place. Whenever I drive down the South Coast, I always need to stop at the Famous Berry Donut Van or my life is not complete! Parked just off the road in a grey caravan under a sign proclaiming the FAMOUS Berry Donut Van lies a trap. A cinamon and sugar coated, fried doughy, crispy, soft doughnut trap. Tasty hot donuts which are crispy and sugary on the outside. There's a bit of a wait during busy times but not too bad. There is limited seating under shelter. They also do coffee and other food. It is about $1.80 per donut. Staff are nice. I wouldn't make a special trip here but would definitely stop if it is along my journey. read more
