When I brought blatant problems to the executive team's attention, I was listened to and then nothing changed. Staff members seemed to prefer doing laundry or hanging out with each other to being with the residents. I also found staff chatting on their cell phones and ignoring the resident's needs. When I directly requested help for my spouse I was told that they would get to it later, or I was treated in a rude and surly manner and my request was grudgingly granted. Buyer beware! What is advertised and what is given are vastly different. Do your homework before sending a person who cannot advocate for him/herself to a place where they are treated as a source of income, not as a needy human being who deserves compassionate, kind and thoughtful care.

The CNA's have an attitude and are quite lazy in carrying out their responsibilities. The CNA's are lacking professionalism and care towards the elderly residents. The food has no taste and the portion sizes have steadily decreased. In addition the food is served cold there is nothing worse than cold bland food. The Arbors is owned and operated by Benchmark Corp - their entire focus is on making money NOT quality care. No better at Bedford Falls in fact it was actually worse. Poor care - lost count of how many medication errors they made. Safety - my father was able to get out of his bedroom window at The Arbors without any staff knowing....and it's a secure community! We moved him their from Bedford Falls because they also were not able to keep him engaged and safe! No communication between departments and or shifts about care, issues or updates. Documentation is almost non existent at these places and they like it that way so it's hard to hold them accountable. No proactive communication with family. We made them host care plan meetings to provide updates to us! More than half of my father's belongings were "lost" regardless that everything had to be labeled by us when we moved him in and their response was "oh that happens....". Activities lacked diversity and personalization. Corporate Benchmark has been completely unresponsive to any and all issues we brought to their attention. If it were not for covid we would have moved my Dad after the first few months even with them promising us repeatedly "it will get better, it will get better". Well, it never did get better and then they blamed him as being " a challenge"! And all THAT isn't enough to make you run as fast as you can away from Benchmark, sadly my Dad died of covid in their care over a month ago. I have yet to receive any sort of condolences from them and we still have not received much of his personal belongings back! I'll say it again - My recommendation is keep looking - Benchmark's "benchmark for care and quality is VERY low and your loved one deserves better!

The building needs a major overhaul (they have had major floods due to the lack of maintenance) and the activities are extremely limited. They rarely take them out and if they do it's to the dollar store or to just drive around and not get out - less liability I guess. Very little mental simulation - less work for them. I met my Mom for a meal and by accident I hit a drink and it fell to the floor. NO ONE came over to assist me to clean it up or my Mom. One person threw a napkin at my face. My mother was in this facility, and I visited my mom every weekend. She had Alzheimer's. One day,…read morePam, the social worker, called me at work at 4pm. Apparently, my mom had been raging all morning and afternoon. Rather than call me when the raging started, she had her sent to Saint Elizabeth's psych ward and started using the term FTD to describe her condition. She said she had never seen such violent behavior. (My mom was 5'2" tall and about 105 pounds, mind you.) Since I worked for the Alzheimer's Association at the time (which is probably the real reason my mom was sent out, as I was fully aware that this facility did not have the required activities programming to market itself as having an Alzheimer's unit but did so anyway), I called contacts at McLean and had her transferred there. Her doctor there said my mom had no business being in a psych ward. She had Alzheimer's type dementia, and her behaviors were relatively common. I had her transferred to Newton Wellesley Alzheimer's Center, and the staff there cared for her lovingly and with tremendous empathy and kindness until she passed away yesterday. I'm writing this review now because I don't want any family to have to suffer through what we went through. If you are absent and don't really care about your loved one with dementia, then choose Golden Living Center in Dedham. However, if you love your mom or dad and plan on visiting regularly, then place your parent somewhere else. You will sleep better, trust me.

Helena, Maureen, Jody and the rest of the caring, compassionate, experienced staff made the transition smooth. The staff is communicative and highly experienced and easy to work with, which is important for my family since we are all out of state. There has not been a challenge that the EPOCH/Waterstone staff has not been lovely in helping us navigate. My father enjoys activities like the sing alongs and the men's luncheons. EPOCH/Waterstone was the best decision for our family.
