Since then, I have commissioned Peter Germain to upholster several pieces of furniture for me over more than twelve years-- in fact all my furniture that needed to be upholstered. He journeyed with one of the finest decorating/upholstery/drapes companies in Southern New England (Herbert Krebs in Waterbury, CT- no longer in business). Peter does truly superb upholstery work, even down to the tiniest detail of matching the pattern in an upholstery fabric on the cording so that it perfectly fits with where it is located on a piece or cushion. When I visited his shop yesterday (7/14/12) to see some other jobs he is doing for me, he had been fabricating and assembling a huge set of Roman shades-- looked as though it was about ten of them, each about 17 feet long; absolutely beautiful work!

He was right of course, and he offered to set things right by redoing the drapes. The whole process took much longer than anticipated but we are really quite happy with everything. I'm not sure I would have said anything if he hadn't have beaten me to it; considering the number of vendors and contractors I've dealt with over the years that prefer to pretend nothing is wrong when something is obviously wrong, it was very gratifying to work with someone who was honest and fair.

They, when I finally got in touch with them, agreed that the blinds needed to be replaced, and the fabric factory offered them free fabric to complete my new blinds. Instead, they used the old fabric and installed something that looks like it was sewn by an 8 year old. The man who installed them, Brian, took a picture to show how terrible the blinds are. That was the last I ever heard from them. I called, emailed, and even sent a certified letter. I have yet to get a response. At this point I am going somewhere else.

He goes out of his way to make sure the products suggested and the installation options provide the most value for my budget. This includes a full house window replacement, sliders, and storm doors. He has a lot of "pull" with his manufacturers and that became evident recently when I had fogging of a side-light window panel that was installed a few years ago. My parents didn't use it much - we noticed that the awning was pulling away from the house and called Jeff to look at - he gave me an estimate and I shared out concerns about not hitting the studs when it was installed but he insisted that we did something wrong. The price was over $700 to take down put up a header and put it back up. Well my husband ended up doing the work and when he took it down he did notice that the original installers only hit one stud which was in no way good enough to carry the load and finally started to let go. I called Jeff to tell him what we found and he just went off on my swearing at me using the F word and calling me a liar and telling me to shut the F up I was shocked how he was talking to me. I also told him I called the manufacturer of the awning and that they didn't have any good to say about his company and again he went off yelling at me and swear at me. I was telling the truth, all I wanted Jeff to do was the right thing and give my parents a reimbursement seeing that my husband had to take down the awning but a header board (cost $70) and then put it back up even if he would've just cover the board at least that was something but his reaction to swear and talk to me the way he did was not acceptable. I did not yell or swear at him the entire call. Jeff did call me back after he called the manufacturer and realized what I said to him was the truth so I will give him a little credit for that but the damage had already been done. If you choice to use this company just beware of their workmanship. The way it is installed now that thing is not going anywhere which it should've been this way to begin with. BEWARE of this company.

He easily could have up-sold me for more than I needed, but instead, made suggestions on what would best suit my needs and budget.. I made my selections, and he took laser measurements for the two windows I was having new shades made for. He told me there would be a 3-4 week lead time from the manufacturer, since they are custom made to fit each application. About three weeks after he first came to measure, he returned and installed the new shades. He worked very cleanly, putting down a small quilt on my floor to prevent damage and dirt. I absolutely could not be happier with the shades or his workmanship. These folks are friendly, very professional and a pleasure to do business with. And as always, you get what you pay for.
